They installed a new HVAC system in our home. It overheated and shut down every time it heated up. They were totally unable to diagnose and correct. The furnace was starving for air because they did not cut the air supply opening in the furnace enough. I diagnosed what was going on and they said we would have to pay to correct! We called another company who diagnosed and corrected in 45 minutes. Would not recommend! read more

I've used Rotterdam Heating and Air Conditioning on and off for years for repairs and installations at my rental properties in Albany. Recently, I noticed an exhaust smell from my boiler in my home and called Rotterdam for assistance. I requested a service call, which I knew was a paid engagement. The technician arrived, and by his language I knew immediately his goal was only to sell me a new boiler. He did no diagnostic whatsoever. Literally none. He simply said the boiler is almost certainly plugged and therefore not worth fixing. The boiler is a 9 year old Lennox unit. I asked about cleaning the unit to which he responded that he doesn't even want to do that because I'd call him in less than a week with the same problem. I grudgingly paid him for the service call and declined to move forward with his proposal to replace the unit. I called a friend who recommended an independent HVAC specialist who came over that evening and cleaned the unit for me for $200. He explained while he worked that the boiler was totally fine and simply had a buildup inside. He admitted that he didn't know *why* there was a buildup, and that's something to keep an eye on, but otherwise the boiler was in fine shape. This was about two months ago, and the boiler has worked flawlessly since. I will never call Rotterdam Heating and Air Conditioning again for any type of service or installation for my rental properties or my personal residence. read more

I have a contract that reads 12 years of parts and labor from the Mfg for the Daiken AC/heat pump Rotterdam HVAC installed last year. After the installation and my payment in full, I find out that the Mfg. says 12-year parts/1 year labor. I also have emails stating that the price without the 12year labor would be $400-600 cheaper. I paid the extra money specifically to get the 12year labor warranty, I have contacted this company multiple times to resolve this but nothing has been done. I think I deserve a $500 refund, don't you? Be careful with these people! read more

My pilot light on furnace has been going out since October and my cellar is hottest area in house. Rotterdam guy told me during each of several expensive visits that National Grid puts air in line when they are working (they aren't around here) and cellar was hot because I have a boiler. Finally called National Grid and they came right away. Turned off gas to house because flue was blocked (sending hot air back into cellar) and I have a carbon monoxide problem. Called another company to fix problem. read more

11 months ago I reviewed this company on google and gave them 5 stars, now I give them 1 star because of how they have treated me after the initial installation. To put it bluntly, they lied to me. My contract reads 12 years parts and 12 years labor on repairs. I have documentation in our e-mails saying that this extra 12 years labor would be about $500 more than if it was not included. I chose to pay the extra "insurance" for a Mfg. labor warranty. When I register the equipment with the Mfg. I am told there is only a 1 year labor warranty. I call, e-mail and msg. Rotterdam HVAC to resolve this. At first they swear that I have a full 12-year labor warranty and they would fix this. Then they began to ignore me. No 12-year labor warranty as contracted and paid for; no refund; no offer to make good on their promise. Not even an apology. Shame on this and other dishonest companies. My air conditioner WOULD go out when it was the hottest week in August!!! I called them up and they made an appointment for the next day for me. I worked with them on it being towards the end of the day so I wouldn't have to call out of work or anything and it ended up working out great. They arrived and swapped out the capacitor for me. The technician had all the parts in his truck and was very quick. Not a bad fee, but I also didn't feel like melting in my house. Reminded me that I needed to swap out my air filters. As a first time and new home owner, it was greatly appreciated!! I setup a service contract for heating and cooling with them. Overall, the price for that and there are a few different options you can choose from are very affordable! read more

My heat wasn't working and I called to have my furnace checked. The associate named Ron, came for 5 minutes advising I was out oil and that I needed to pay $200. I pay rent so my landlord takes care of everything, then Ron decides to complain how he came here 5 times and my address is always an issue. I contacted the company and they said they will look into it, but as a consumer If you're paying someone else for a service, the person providing the service shouldn't complain or make comments about my living situation. This the 2nd time he has been at my residence and he feels the need to give his two cents. Very unprofessional and I don't want that specific employee to return to my home ever again. He then told my wife, that I should be better on top of things like this. His attitude is the worst I have ever endured in a professional setting. I understand he's older but people with attitudes like that should not be representing your business. read more

After about $1000 in parts and labor, and about 8 service visits in one year on a furnace that was supposed to be under warranty when we started on this journey, we had another obvious gas leak as soon as they left. No way we are having them back again. Calling someone else for repairs even though they obviously caused the leak. Don't use them. read more

I am very disappointed in the response, after 3 calls with different individuals from Rotterdam Heating & Air Conditioning, it has been three weeks and no call back.... I called this morning and told them, "I have contacted another company and they have already replaced the Thermostat. And, yes, they did not install the Furnance.... They should not support Carrier, they should ask to be removed from there Website. I so, wanted this relationship to be a Great Experience. It did not happen. First had to wait @ two weeks appointment. We were aware that our furnace was old and probably needed replacing, were having a problem with some zones getting too much heat and others not enough. Service person showed up day before Thanksgiving holiday, changed a valve, and bled air from system. Left us with a bill of $300 and unbeknownst to us, system shut off. He did not tell us he had shut off our heat the day before a major holiday and the day before a major drop in temperature. He recommended that we have the furnace replaced. After he left and we realized we had no heat, my husband turned it back on. At that point we realized there was water leaking from the system at the rate of a large bucket an hour. We called the technician and company back (many times) both on Weds and Friday, to no avail. Our holiday was spent changing the bucket every hour to prevent flooding in the basement until we found another person to solve our problem. The day after the holiday it took 5 minutes for another company's technician to solve the problem of the leak on a temporary basis and restore our heat. I would never use this company again. read more

This is what was experienced with this company: On January 3rd, 2019, their technicians installed a new furnace and air conditioner in my home. The business disregarded when my furnace broke and left me without heat for 4 days. Their technician, Joe appeared at my home to repair my furnace. This Joe, would be down in my basement going up and down my stairs using my bathroom. The amount of time he spent in the bathroom was beyond the norm, this is a symptom of drug use. I would never heard the toilet flush, so it was a mystery what Joe the technician was doing in that bathroom. Then Joe the technician would go outside and sit in his truck and smoke cigarettes. Now Joe finally got the furnace working, but did not stay long enough to see if it would continue to work. Well, what happened next, the furnace Exploded, and my whole home was ruined with black soot that came out all over the home through all the vents. Then to top it off, when I called their offices I was told them what occurred in my home with the explosion, they stated I had to wait because their technicians had other scheduled calls. Any normal thinking individual would consider this an emergency, which they did not. After several days of talking with this business they sent a different technician (not smoking Joe) to install a whole new unit. My home is ruined, it was cleaned up, but it will never be in the same state it was before the big explosion. I am warning people, do NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. The office staff sounded like low-life and left an 83 year old woman without heat and a filthy home. Their disregard of their customers is Appalling. read more

Service tech Joe S came to look at our furnace which was not getting up to temp, did nothing except adjust fan speeds/temperatures and change the filter, then charged us $180. 2 days later, our furnace stopped working completely, so we called again. He was supposed to be in touch by 8 the next morning; didn't call until 1 pm, even after i called and left messages at the office multiple times. He quoted us $125 for a part and said he would call before coming out to our house. He then called at 5 pm to say he was on his way to our house, and oh btw, the part is $325 and it's the last one in stock. We looked it up online and the part was ALWAYS selling for around $75. We said we would supply the part and he could install that. He said i would have to contact the office. I did, and after getting quite the run-around from Joanna at the office, who kept insisting that four other customers were out of heat that Joe needed to take care of and that it would take Joe about 2 hours to replace the part in our furnace, we finally were given the okay to get the part ourselves and bring it to Joe ASAP. Since we had called the night before at 6, and were told no one would work on our furnace until the following day, we knew that the line about 4 other customers after us was just that, a line. There was no way that Joe was going to 4 other houses after ours, when he was JUST coming out to ours at after 5 pm. When we handed the part to Joe and thanked him, he refused to say one word to us, simply glared. Fifteen minutes later (hm, how's that for making short work of a "2 hour" job) he was finished. The next day, our furnace wasn't working again. Turned out there was a loose wire connection that happened when Joe replaced the part. However, when we called the office to have a technician come out again, Joe called us back and said that he wouldn't be able to come out until sometime the following day, and then would have to charge us because their company did not supply the part. I cannot say this enough: this company is atrocious, and you will get ripped off if you go with them. Their customer service is abysmal, their technicians' service is abysmal, and please don't get burned as badly as we did by contacting them. read more
