Sited in the upper rear area…read moreof the Council building, access is via stairs from the carpark (if on foot, go through the 'tunnel' to the right of the building as you stand in Adam & Eve street), or buggy/disabled access is through the council offices themselves (ask the ladies there, and they will guide you to the lift and see you up). On first sight, you don't think it will take five minutes to do it all, but as you go around, you realise how much there is, from the World War dressing up box, the slot-puzzle archaology boxes, the films about old Harborough and much more. I and my children have spent many a wet afternoon in there and I don't think I've actually seen half of it yet - they always find a new bit. And the best thing - it's free - although we always end up picking something up from the small but varied shop.

Here a giant inclined plane, remnants of which can be seen, took boats up a steep slope in tanks. You can walk the slope, visit the adjacent museum, and explore the flight of locks that carry boats up and down nowadays. It is a shame it is at the old end of town, which does not get as much footfall as the newer part - I am sure more people would use it if it was in a busier location. Once inside, the library is well stocked and has a very good reference section. The staff are all pleasant, knowledgeable and have mainly been there a long time.

Library is also very near to a bus stop,the tourist infomation and toilets. Shops are close by along with cafes and the local swimming pool. The Library has just gone self-service. It has helpfull staff. Along with books you can rent dvds,cds and videos.
