I went 2 times here and it was always a pleasure. I went to a puppet show (it is was a very weird story) but it was very well done. The cool thing is afterwards there was a Q&A session with the artist. It was nice to ask questions to better understand the play. Even the director of Gessnerallee was there. The biggest room has space for 400 people, sorry really not a huge thing. The gessnerallee used to be in old days a horse stable. They completely renovated it and turned it into a theatre, bar and restaurant. The interior is nice and cool ! Nice area to go out

Performers received ovation for 15 minutes, very generous and enthusiastic crowd for performances. It was nice to b part of such a festive atmosphere supporting the performing arts. The opera company was fabulous. Highly recommend.

On a recent trip to Zurich, I had the opportunity to see an opera at the fine Zurich Opera House…read more The opera itself was a rarely performed Bellini opera called "La Straniera." It was a co-production of the Theater an der Wien in Vienna and starred the incomparable Edita Gruberova. Of course it was well sung! The opera house itself is on the smaller side but as a result very easy to get around. The new addition is very well integrated into the old building and gives much needed box office and supportive services space. There are ample eating and drinking spots scattered throughout the opera house. The acoustics are excellent letting one hear the orchestra and singers to maximum enjoyment. Because of its size, singers can concentrate more on subtlety and detail as opposed to voice projection. All this comes with the usual high prices of Switzerland and that is probably the most limiting aspect of a Zurich opera experience.

Thanks to Tillate, I got free tickets here for the Trentemøller concert last night. I was excited…read moreto finally check out this concert hall, as I had never been inside before. It was a lot smaller than I thought, but still a decent size for a concert. We grabbed some free earplugs by the security check at the entrance but ended up not needing them because we stood at the back. There was a large coat check area and bar to the other side. You have to pay a deposit for the cups and can get it back when you return the empty cups to the bar. I got a prosecco that came in a plastic goblet. Lots of staff working to direct the flow of traffic, so it wasn't too bad with all the people. We had to wait a bit for the main act, and there wasn't any place to sit, so I saw some people sitting on the ground along the walls. Real classy. :P Inside was an open hall with some seating along the sides on the upper floor. No one was sitting there yesterday though. There was a large light fixture on the ceiling, but other than that, the room was pretty bare. It was kind of dark though, so I couldn't get a good look at what it looked like inside. I guess the music wasn't really my friend's cup of tea, so we bailed early. But it was still kind of nice to check out.
