I generally love shopping at Ross. While on vacation in Florida from Indiana, I stopped into the Pompano Beach location to grab a few things. Upon coming out of the dressing room the second time, an attendant, also one of the security staff said he needed to count my items before giving me the items I wanted to purchase. He said I had an "8" tag, but only 7 items. I told him that was the tag that the other attendant gave me. He makes me feel awkward with a look like I must be lying. He stands there with me until she comes back a minute later, and says that I came out with an 8 tag but only 7 items, to which she responds with a sheepish look. After another awkward moment of silence, he says to her "you need to check the dressing room." At this point I'm getting upset at how the whole situation is being handled. If someone is suspected of shoplifting, which obviously they thought I was, there should be a better way to handle it. I just walk away then, but I'm embarrassed and upset. After finding my family members, I get in line to buy the items I wanted. But then I see the security guard standing looking at me with another (different) guard near the exit, which makes me think this episode is not over. Now I think I'm going to ask for the general manager, but my family says don't make a scene. I paid and left, but am NOT AT ALL satisfied with this experience. While I understand that shoplifting is an unfortunate and expensive retail problem, paying customers should NEVER be made to feel bad, when it was a staff member's oversight that caused the security guard to be suspicious in the first place. read more
