They're a hit or miss. But lately has only been a miss. One, their prices don't match up online to when you call or order online. Two, I waited an hour for my food last time. I had the pupusas (6/10) enchiladas salvadoreñas had no flavor (2/10) and the sandwich de pollo was soooo good!! I raved about their sandwich to all my co workers and customers and when my friend finally got it his chicken wasn't cooked all the way. He literally almost threw up and just threw it away instead. Imagine the embarrassment I had after all the bragging. I called back to see if we could order something else and just pay the difference PLUS add more orders. They said no they can't do anything. If a place can't compensate for giving UNDER COOKED chicken then they lost my business for life. Holy wow! This place is amazing. We come often and love the service (special shout out to Yasmine and her amazing team!). I highly recommend the papusas of course. We particularly enjoy the Frijole and the Revueltas (pork). Super tasty! Be sure to ask for both the tomato and spicy sauce. They really pull the dish together. If you want something truly special, you MUST order the Enchiladas Salvadoreñas. They are the perfect combo of crispy base, mixed chicken, avocado and egg. The flavor is great, especially with the tomato sauce. If you are there for lunch, I'd definitely recommend the Chicken Torta! The flavor is super complex and enjoyable. Make sure to ask for the "Green Sauce"! It's a classic sauce that I've had in Latin American food (most notably with Venezuelan arepas). Rosita's delivers in spades on this sauce. Finally, if you are looking for a solid entre, I'd highly recommend the pechuga de pollo con crema. It is chicken with cream sauce cooked in bell peppers. My favorite pupusas in the area! I've only been here once, but yum! I've been living here for almost three years and finally tried this place bc I was craving a small meal. I decided to get a pork pupusa, a barbacoa taco, and some chicharrón bc who doesn't love fried pork? There weren't a lot of patrons in the restaurant when we dined in, but the wait was rather long for what we ordered. I'd say we waited about 20 mins for our food to arrive. Luckily, we had micheladas to hold us over while we waited. The pork pupusa was filled with a good portion of meat and cheese. The barbacoa taco was okay, not too memorable, and the chicharrón wasn't chicharrón at all. They were actually just masitas me puerco (fried pork chunks) as there was no attached skin or fat in sight. Don't order these if you love actual chicharrón bc you'll be disappointed. My 1st impression of this place was horrific, the customer service here is HORRIBLE!! It's so sad how buisness owners allow their employees to treat their clients this way on the phone and in person. I wanted to try out a new spot for breakfast and found this location on Yelp, I normally don't base restaurant on negative reviews because I have to either experience or witness these things on my own. However this place deserves a negative ZERO FOR THEIR SERVICE. I called and attempted to make my order for breakfast however when I called I was only able to hear the loud music in the background unable to hear the staff member taking my order, the same situation for the employee unable to hear me on the phone. One thing is making sure you pick up the phone to at least hear your clients order in an area where we can all hear each other. The food I ordered was the same as the service I honestly couldn't even eat what was ordered nor take a picture the tortilla was soggy, the tomatoes tasted rotten had a horrible smell. For $22 it was not worth it at all the entire experience was awful!! I honestly DO NOT recommend this place to anyone, from their customers service to the food I ordered I rate this place a Zero!!! Order an enchilada! They're totally different from the filled tortilla covered in sauce I think of as an enchilada. It's a crispy tortilla base with beans and other toppings. The beans were literally the best refried black beans I've ever had. What do they do to their beans?!! This was the highlight of an amazing meal! The pupusas and empanadas are also fabulous. Also got the santados as an entree. It was super good and brought some veggies and fries into the meal with tasty tender meat. I feel a little bad saying this because my entree was great, but I recommend filling up on a sampling of enchiladas, pupusas, tacos, and empanadas. The wait staff is friendly and super chill. This place is HITS. Honestly in my years living here, I've never thought of going here but I was in the mood for some pupusas. We got the torta, flautas and a cheese/bean and a cheese/pork(?) pupusa. I give this restaurant no stars but had no choice but to give it one. I was served lomo Saltado with a chunk of aluminum foil in my rice. After speaking with the "manager" I was told I would be given a new plate but that I would have to pay for it or not be served at all. So I'm going to pay for a mistake on their end? After working in the restaurant industry I would not charge my customer for their meal that we messed up and apologize for the inconvenience in having to wait for a new plate. Holy hell, their food is exceptional! If it weren't for these reviews I'd have never stopped by the unassuming restaurant on Route One. I've been twice now and my mind was blown each time. I have disliked Cole Slaw my whole life but theirs is not mayo based; it's mixed with El Salvadoran oils & spices, it's light, the veggies are so fresh they crunch unlike regular slaw that erodes in your mouth. Pupusas. I had no idea what I was ordering the 1st time and now it's a favorite. I don't understand how their culinarily engineered and can only liken them to Burrito contents magically stuffed into an EL Salvadoran pancake. It's far less messy than a burrito. The shrimp avocado soft taco is served with fresh lime and is the best item I've tried. In fact, it's the best taco like food I've ever had. I'll never be able to take Flautas serious at other restaurants. These are huge, cooked to perfection (not oily) and were topped with fresh veggies & cheese. Came here to get a quick bite to eat. I was seated swiftly. Received my food quick and even had a nice waitress. I got the Pollo encevollados. It was chicken, rice, beans and salad. The rice wasn't throughly cooked. And the chicken wasn't throughly cooked either. As I proceed to eat the chicken that was a really good and Seasoned well. I love the food here but I am vegetarian and when I order take out, they consistently get my order wrong and give me meat. It would be understandable if it was occasionally but it's all the time! Nothing is more disappointing than looking forward to enjoying a delicious bean tamale to find out they gave you chicken tamales. Oh wow! What an awesome, awesome little restaurant. Absolutely some of the best Salvadoran food I've had in ages. It's definitely a hole in the wall establishment. not much in the way of Decore anything fancy. If you come here it's solely based on the food, nothing more nothing less. Went with a friend of mine who had their pupusas and he loved them. Forgot what I had was called but it was flank steak with onions, ensalata, tortillas and rice. Everything was great. A fair decent amount of seating but not that much. There's no way the establishment could support a large number of customers, which in a way is kind of nice because you won't feel cramped in. There's also a decent amount of parking. No Wi-Fi, but honestly, who needs that when all you're supposed to be doing is enjoying the experience. Great friendly staff, order comes in a timely manor as well. I promise you, you will not go wrong with coming here. My next trip there will be to have the tripe soup and if it's just as good as what I already had, I can't hardly wait. read more

Fair amount of alcoholic and non-alchie beverage choices in the fridge trio, but I was quite happy with the balanced horchata stirred then scooped from behind the counter-- not overly sweet or gritty. Tried one of each of their tacos, which benefited from the fresh pico de gallo and two wedges of lime, but not from their uninspiring red/green salsas. Shrimp was the best in generosity despite the proteins being a bit overcooked, though the slice of avocado helped mask the chewiness. Asada was a close second in ranking; I had hopes for the lengua taco but this one skimped on the actual tongue meat. Chicken hardly had any flavor, wouldn't get that one again. So I am back in El Salvador again. Ok, no but it sure feels like it with Rosita's authentic food and Salvadorian ballads playing on the stereo. The word of the day is definitely authentic, for Rosita's delivers selection dishes that are superb in their flavorful execution. Another thing that is a tip off of the quality of the food here is that you will find a clientele who is from El Salvador or at the very least boasts the same heritage. It has been my experience in NOVA that the locals know what is best and will always support their cultural and ethnic food stars, This is not to say that if your background is from anywhere else that you wont feel at home here, for good food serves as a cultural bridge to understanding and common ground. I had the Pollo Guisado, a dish of stewed chicken that was perfection in its simplicity and taste. The meat was so tender that it just fell off the bone, and the broth of the dish was subtle mixture of flavors which could be nothing less than home cooking. Rosita's also offers an in-house rojo and verde salsa that serves as the perfect compliment to any meal. I was impressed with the rich complexity of my meal, for it reminded me of something my grandmother would cook. On a hunch,I asked my server if grandma was in the back cooking and she confirmed that was indeed the case. Let's face it, foodies, it just doesn't get much better than that. If you can get over the decor (or complete lack thereof) then you should try out Rosita's. It's not fancy, nor does it pretend to be, but it does get the job done. The prices are about average for fresh made food and the portions were fine. They could stand for a bit more seasoning overall and a better constructed menu. My favorite taco was the chicken---it lacked nothing and the seasoning was perfect. And while we were the only diners sitting in, they did seem to have a steady flow of pick-up orders coming in. We also encountered a pleasant surprise of having our food brought to our table (as it seemed that wasn't the set up). Not sure I'll be clamoring to return but it was nice to try out once and perhaps if I'm in the mood for Spanish food but don't want to drive to Chevy's, I would return. My bf and I stopped by Rosita's on the way to Lowe's, for a quick bite to eat. We had an order of fried tamal de elote, and a couple pupusas. I'm usually a huge fan of tamal de elote, and usually not a fan of fried things. This was my very first time having fried tamal de elote, and it was....*drumroll* actually ok! :D nice and crispy on the outside without feeling too oily, but a little lacking in corn flavor and the subtle sweetness that I associate with this dish. You'll think me crazy, but in my nearly 4 years in DC, I have never had a pupusa. So these were also my very first pupusas--one bean and cheese, and one with pork. Served with some pickled slaw, these were pretty tasty--soft and almost tender, and stuffed with tasty goodness. I wish they were more substantial, but perhaps that was just me not knowing how big/small they were, and not ordering enough the first time around. It was pretty quiet in the restaurant, except for a few guys mounting a TV on a wall. It was rather funny seeing them trying to watch the soccer game while mounting the TV, lol. Service was not particularly memorable, but I find that easy to forgive in a small place like this. I probably won't be going back, but that's due to location than anything else. I picked up the phone to place my takeout order and it was a bit of struggle to get it done due to the language barrier but I finally got it done. Upon arriving I made sure I got some pictures of the menu to help everyone out. Here's what I had and my opinion: Pupusas - These were excellent! These are a type of fried corn tortillas. You can order them with cheese, beans, and pork or just with cheese and beans. I tried both and they were great! $2 each Tacos de Asada (steak) - These were excellent as well! The meat was seasoned really well and tasted great! $2 each Tacos de lengua(tongue) - These were good but the meat was a little chewy. $2 each Platano Con Crema - Fried Plantains! Delicous!!! I was super excited to try this place since I am originally from Miami where you can access food from anywhere and I was just moving from a 99 year torture of only being able to eat mexican due to my last location. Don't get me wrong, the place is good but the prices are outrages. Ah, last minute Xmas shopping on the Tue. before the 25th at Target on Richmond Hwy., what a delight? Luckily I heard of a great Salvadoran place right next door. Stopped in for lunch and quickly grabbed a table. The place is very clean with extremely friendly staff. I love Salvadoran food, but was also happy they had tacos as well as that is what I was really hankering for. The menu looks great, and I was starving and then just went on a ordering frenzy: Two types of tamales: elote (corn) and pisques (beans and its cooked in a banana leaf so the tamale looks green ($1.50 each). Two pupusas: pork & cheese, cheese & herbs ($2 each). Two tacos: lengua and barbacoa ($2 and $2.50 respectively). As you can see the menu prices are wonderful. Huge mass of food came out with two bottles of their own hot sauce (mild and spicy. The tamales were of excellent consistency with great flavor, although I preferred the pisques one more since the elote was somewhat bland, but paired well with the spicy hot sauce. Pupusas were all you could ask for. Tender with lots of cheese. They were very hot so definitely eat with the cold slaw that comes with it. While I'm a pork fan I did enjoy the cheese & herb one more; just more flavor and tons of cheese. Now I did have tacos on my mind, and these were some of the best I've had in N. VA (even though its a Salvadoran place). The lengua was so tender you barely had to chew. Just a simple accompaniment with cilantro and a squirt of fresh lime. No sauce needed. But the star of the show was the barbacoa. Man this was fantastic, best taco I've had in a while. Great smokey flavor and you put on slices of grilled jalapeno and onion. I could easily have crushed a few more of these. So if you are on Richmond Hwy. and dreading some last minute Holiday shopping I recommend a nice respite here for some authentic great and cheap food. read more

I went to Rosita's for lunch this week, as I was in Alexandria and the restaurants I'm familiar with had two stars. When I walked in the music was the first thing that caught my attention. They were playing one of the servers' playlist, which was Panic at the disco! We sat and the server came and greeted us. She was very nice and friendly! They were low on beverage options, but other than that, all menu items were in stock. I ordered a la cartea chicken pastelito, revueltas pupusas and French fries. Delicious! The pastelito was a bit too flavorful for my liking, but i'm sensitive to taste. I also had the plantanos fritos, which were also good, although not the best ive had. They served them with crema, which looked like mayo but tasted like sour cream. I did not care for that combination either. Everyone else loved their food as well!
