We live in California and we needed to send a small indoor plant for our son's birthday. We were scheduled to visit Philadelphia that day, but wanted to surprise him with an arrangement before we arrived.  I called Roses Florist and spoke to a gracious lady named Maria. Maria helped me pick a bonsai and balloons for the arrangement.  Our son obsoletely loved the arrangement!  Before we left Philadelphia, I stopped by at the store to thank Maria in person.  She was as nice on the phone as she was in person. Her husband, Michael, was there. He picked a red rose as a gift for me.   Maria "dressed up the rose" with ferns and baby's breath. She then wrapped it up beautifully.  The rose looked beautiful in our living room. The rose survived a two-day trip because of the cancellation of our flight and our late arrival home the next day.  We were so grateful to have met amazing people!  Thank you, Maria! Just last week, Roses Florist delivered two beautiful bunches to us from two different friends. The flower gifts -- one is an armload of tall, deep purple irises and the other a large bunch of tall cut flowers in gorgeous colors -- are healthy and lush, and they're not packed with foliage for filler. What a lovely place! In a sea of large corporate florists, it was such a pleasure to support a long-term local business. I'd been meaning to buy a plant for my new office, and happened to walk past Roses Florist one day. In addition to all the flowers one needs for general bouquet-making, there was a large assortment of green plants, to my great delight! Peace lilies, pothos, ivies, and more. All looking healthy and well and begging to come back to work with me. I believe it was the owner Maria who helped me -- she was lovely! We discussed my plant owning history (unsuccessful with bamboo and cactus, long-term success with a peace lily), what kind of light I wanted, which plants would need to be re-potted, etc. It'd be easy to say that she was an expert who knew her stuff, but it was more like her knowledge was just organic to who she is. (Pun not intended, but feel free to appreciate it!) I chose between two beautiful, luscious pothos -- both of which looked less like what you'd find at a big box nursery ready for sale and more like her personal plants that she was willing to part with. I chose the one with lots of long vines, and Maria carefully packaged it up for transport, while talking to me about plant care (how often to water it, how that would change if my office blasted heat, when to give it a little miracle-gro, etc.). I handed over $30, which I considered extremely reasonable given how mature and developed the plant was -- a tiny 6" thing at Home Depot would've cost me $15 and taken years to grow this much! The plant is now happily ensconced in my office and brings me much joy. Plus, it totally looks like a plant I've had and cultivated for years, bringing me much plant cred as well! read more

Terrible, unreliable service and incorrect information on the website Since the information on the website showed that the business is open, I ordered flowers to be delivered on January 1 as a birthday gift. The system allowed me to complete the order and I received a confirmation that the flowers would be delivered on January 1. Unfortunately, it did not happen.... Was not able to reach anyone on January 1, but received a call on January 2 from a person claiming that the business was closed. read more

While the woman on the phone was super helpful and very nice/friendly. However, I have to say it was one of the ugliest floral arrangements I specifically asked for small tight flowers in a cube. No Lilys or big flowers. Pinks and purple. This looks like it was thrown together with whatever they had at the end of the day. Really disappointed. read more

If I could leave negative stars, I would. I ordered flowers for a friend's grandmother's funeral services. Because this business is absolutely horrific, I received no notification as to what happened with the flowers. I called and spoke to the manager who was incredibly rude and disrespectful - she says that they cancelled the order and sent an email. I had checked my email previously and their server must be trash because the correspondence had gone to my junk folder. I asked why I didn't receive a call and she said because I'm located in California. That's a piss poor excuse and terrible customer service. I ordered flowers for a FUNERAL, one of the absolute worst things someone can go through, and this company doesn't even have the decency to follow through. read more

The kindest people we have met in Philadelphia! The store was a little empty due to Covid/lower amounts of business, but the couple (who presumably own the shop) sold us a fun corn plant that we LOVE! And they gave my girlfriend a rose as a congratulations for starting her first year of grad school at Penn. They said they are expecting to re-stock in a few weeks when school starts, and we plan to return to purchase our second and third plants for our apartment from them! read more

I have been ordering flowers from Rose's florist for the past few years for a friends birthday and once again Maria did an amazing job !!! My friend called and said the bouquet was absolutely beautiful and how much she loved it. She used to do quite a bit of gardening and as she's been getting older she had to stop tending to her garden and flowers. She said she felt as if she were sitting in her garden enjoying all of her flowers. I always ask Maria to do a designers choice where she creates unique arrangement for my friend and Maria comes through every time with something beautiful and very unique. I definitely recommend Rose's florist if you have to order flower in the Philly area. ! read more

Ordered flowers for a funeral service and the customer service at Roses Florist is amazing! I'm in a different state and I called to confirm they could do a delivery to the area. They were so pleasant as they directed me to see what was available on the website or they were also willing to tell me more over the phone. They even called to confirm they could switch a flower in the arrangement prior to doing so. Then they emailed me to tell me it had been delivered. For ordering out state this was exactly what I needed. Thank you for this seamless process. Just wish I was closer to use them on a regular. read more

Roses Florist is absolutely robbing people blind. We stopped in to pick up a last minute bouquet for a Penn graduating senior on graduation. There were very few prepared bouquets in the store, so I opted to "make my own." The store had roses in a refrigerator priced $4.99 and sprigs of non-rose flowers (ie daisies, sunflowers, etc.) that were listed as $2.50 each. I selected 7 roses: 2 pink, 2 yellow, 2 white, and 1 purple. Some of the petals were falling off the roses but at least they weren't turning brown like the sad, picked over bouquets at the nearby grocer. To the roses, I picked ~8 sprigs of non-rose flowers. Some of the sprigs only had 3 daisies on them to my disappointment, which is why I had to pick many more to fill out the bouquet. Imagine my surprise when the lady without any explanation typed in $69.96 into the cash register and said this was the price. How can a bouquet containing 7 roses and mostly minor flowers cost $70??? I realized my initial thought that the $4.99 price of the roses was some kind of bundle price was wrong. EACH rose cost $4.99, which is absurd. I considered asking for an explanation of the price or at least an itemized receipt but since there were people in line behind me, I did not. Still today, I do not know how they arrived at their price as the math does not add up, even including tax. I wish I had asked because the pricing for their flowers, which at best are average, is simply ridiculous. Would give negative stars if I could. Will never return here. read more

Ordered with ten days notice; absolutely no reason that a smaller bouquet of inferior flowers and ribbon should have been substituted. Attempts to contact owner to address complaint went unanswered. Roses Florist doesn't have delivery service on Sundays, but when I told them that my daughter's only day off all week is Sunday, Maria offered to personally deliver the flowers to my daughter after work on her way home... wow!!! Horrible, slow service. Flowers are average. Would not recommend at all. When I went in, the lady was on the phone taking down an order. She put down the phone for a moment to check on something, and even though I had been standing in front of her counter for 5 minutes, she did not even take a second to acknowledge that I was there. After she finished, I told her what I needed, and she wrapped up the flowers. I thought I would just pay and leave, but of course it is not that easy with this place. A small group of people came in after I did, and a man was helping them. The lady who was helping me and had wrapped up my flowers told the man that she would take over the small group's order from there. I thought she meant that she would help them, so the man could ring me up. Nope, not at all. She left my wrapped up flowers on the counter and just left to help the other group, helping them pick out flowers and choose colors (while the man was just sitting at his desk to the side). After 5 minutes, she finally came back to the counter...to ring up the other group's order. She finally got to me after she was done with everyone else. Guess you're just not that important to them if you're only buying a few flowers rather than a custom order. read more

had a good experience here buying a small bamboo plant as a gift for a friend. the woman working--maybe the owner--was exceedingly friendly and made sure to help me out with extras once i mentioned it was a gift, such as wrapping up the plant in plastic and then paper for transit, and giving me a little plastic stand and some small cards to write a message on. maybe this is standard procedure at florists though? so i can vouch for the in-person service, but i also got a house plant and not flowers. they had an ok selection of different plants you might see in a home or office as well as some little bamboos and air plants. read more

A friend was turning 80 today and I wanted to send her flowers because she loves working in her garden. I spoke with Maria and explained what I would like. Marie suggested a designers choice which included sunflowers and I am so happy she did. I just received a call from my friend who was absolutely happy with the flowers. If I could give this company negative stars I would. They are a completely disorganized irresponsible business. I ordered flowers for a friend for Christmas and on their website it confirmed the delivery date as 12/25 and I received a confirmation email. Not only did the flowers not get delivered on 12/25 (they said they were closed but didn't update their website calendar to say this), the next morning they canceled my order all together. They said they were out of their Christmas arrangements. There was no phone call and no apology or alternative plan given. When I called their store manager Maria she told me a confirmation email doesn't mean an order is necesarrily confirmed for delivery or availability. I have been ordering flowers for years from various websites and have never come across a more disorganized business. They completely don't care about the lives they impact when important gifts are not followed through on and are defensive and not accommodating when they make a mistake.
