We found them through a Salt Spring Island guidebook and were drawn because they advertised lavender ice cream. We arrived at the farm nearly at closing time but the owners were still super nice and accommodating and welcomed us in. We got our ice cream and they explained some of the different types of lavender they have in the farm and let us freely roam around to take it all in. The ice cream was by far the best lavender ice cream I've ever had. The fragrance was super strong but not overwhelming and every bite tasted like lavender :) We were told that not every batch of their lavender ice cream comes out this great and we got very lucky. The farm is quite small but there are definitely still enough lavender to appreciate. They have a set of cute lawn chairs at the end of the walkway that were perfect for photos too! After our short walk, we checked out their shop. They have a lot of lavender products (as you would expect) and they're constantly working on experimenting with lavender to make more products too. By this point, it was definitely after closing time already but they never rushed us at all. In fact, they were super helpful in explaining how to use lavender products and giving us tips on how we can grow our own. This was overall such a great experience and I'm so happy that I got to stop by. I'm still thinking about that ice cream.

If you are in market for gravel, fill, landscaping rock, etc. and live in the Victoria area, this…read moreplace will likely be the one and only stop you'll need to make. i discovered this place almost by accident when I was recently looking for some gravel or landscaping stones to fill in some gaps around our new patio deck. I had been to 5 or 6 garden centers (2 of which were part of a larger hardware type store. And at every place the only thing they carried were these small (5lb) bags of "landscaping" rock. I write "landscaping", because at close to $10/bag even Bill Gates would go broke trying to landscape anywhere larger than a windowbox with this stuff. Obviously these bags are intended for potted plants or very very small sections of a garden. Anyway as I was about to leave the last garden supply store I thought why not use my new iPhone to search my immediate area and after a few taps, Trio came up. I tapped once to call and the guy who answered said that they probably has something to meet my needs. And best of all...the store was less than a km from where I was standing. A 3 minute drive later and I was surrounded by literally tons of just about any sort of land fill you can imagine. I grabbed a couple of large bags from one of the employees and shoveled about 50-60 lbs of very nice gravel (multicoloured stones with flecks of crystal throughout) into them. When I paid for it, I was pleasantly surprised to find the grand total owing was $6.18. Quite a far cry from the roughly $150 the same amount would have cost if I had gone the $10 for 5 lbs route. I'm glad I found this place and would without hesitation recommend it. You won't be able to buy a drill press or a showerhead there, but if it's gravel you desire they will hook you up.

I bought a few very nice hand-made leather-bound note pads. The lady who took my order was a sub and was an older lady. She overcharged me for an additional one, but I was running for the ferry and didn't notice this mistake until after I'd returned to Vancouver. I called the store next day, but it was the store owner who answered the phone. Since it was a different person, I had to tell the story right from the beginning and was worried that she would not believe me, but she did, and didn't need any proof from me. She saw a written note indicating what was sold the day before, and put 2 and 2 together. She promised to send me a cheque for the overcharge. The cheque arrived 2 days later. What a wonderful person. I will definitely shop there again the next time I visit Salt Spring.
