The Naples Historical Society is also the steward of the Naples Historical Society Foundation, Inc. which raises funds for historical preservation. The headquarters of the Naples Historical Society is the Historic Palm Cottage which is the oldest house in Naples. The 3,500 sq ft house was built in 1895 to be used as a summer cottage by Walter N. Haldeman, the owner and editor of the Louisville, Kentucky Courier Journal and Times. The house has now been turned into a museum. On May 24, 1982, Palm Cottage was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Tours are given of the house and educational programs are staged there. The Naples Historical Society purchased the 1/2 acre lot next to the house and turned it into a cottage garden that can be rented for events. Administration and archives is held at another historic property, a house built in 1910 that is a half block from Palm Cottage. Some of the programs the Naples Historical Society implements are the Naples History Tours, Christmas at Palm Cottage, Garden Side Chickee Chats, fund raising events, and guest speakers. Palm Cottage is currently closed due to the pandemic but I still enjoyed paying it a visit. I had to make my own history tour but I look forward to coming back to take the Naples Historical Society's downtown history tour that includes the cottage. Anyone who is interested in history will want to avail themselves of the excellent programs provided by the historical society.

There was a crowd gathered to see the sunset but it was not overly crowded or anything. We still found a good spot to stand and watch. After sundown, we walked on the beach to enjoy the moment as the weather was pleasant (in late December). The beach area was clean and it's in a nice neighborhood. There's paid parking nearby. Might be our last trip here.

They took us to Old Hickory Island, where we found some amazing shells, a Pygmy octopus, conch, and a sand dollar. Throughout the trip, Captain Jessica shared her knowledge about the local ecosystem, answering all of our questions about the dolphins, manatees, mangroves, and the area. One of the highlights was when she spotted a pod of dolphins. She carefully brought the boat alongside them, and we got to watch them swim and jump in our boat's wake--it was unforgettable! Communication was outstanding from start to finish. We had to reschedule twice due to weather. Captain Jessica made the process incredibly easy and stress-free. She is friendly, welcoming, and shared lots of great local recommendations for places to visit and things to do. The grounds are so diverse and so well taken care of. You can download a map that will help direct you as you make your way around the gardens. There is a huge parking lot and many scooters for those who need them. The gift shop has a lot of unique and fairly priced items. 05 March 2026…read more Beautiful day for a walk in the park. We went to the Botanical Gardens, Naples, Florida. This place is beautiful and serene. Naturally I took lots of photos & videos. The photos & videos speak for themselves. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and water or candy to keep your mouth moist. There are miles of trails here but not enough signage along the way to keep me from getting lost , as is my habit. There are a couple of waterfalls and colorful flowers planted along the path of some of the trails. There are Some Tiki Huts to sit & rest awhile. Also many benches along the trail to take a breather if so desired. So, come , relax and enjoy God's Green acre.
