Typically, they have the sweetest organic broccoli in town for a competitive price. This is a big store and it is fun to explore it in depth to see what specialties are available. This store is primarily conventional with a mix of some organic. My husband and I don't buy conventional because we eat only organic. The folks who work here are exceptionally sweet and they know their business. If I need help, I get it immediately. If we need to order something special from the meat department like organic SMART chicken thighs, Michael will call the manager in the meat department and place his order. They go the 2nd mile to make sure that we get what we asked for if it is at all possible. Thunderbird really understands service with a smile!!!

When you live in Nebraska and the closest grocery store is 45 minutes away from you, and the closest store with a moderate selection of organic products is almost 2 hours away, you really appreciate a store like this in a town like this where there are many organic options to choose from. What caught my eye that first time, and it hasnt changed over the past five years: an excellent selection of products I actually use. No having to figure out "is this organic?" when looking at the produce, where some is organic and some isnt; its all organic here. Wide aisles, sparkling floors. Staff who have become friends. Everything is so clean. Theyll special order for you. And for me, no having to drive 2 hours to find "something, anything" thats organic. Yes, there are other stores in town that offer organic choices. But for a complete selection of everything I need, from sources I trust, that I know are always going to be there, PLUS a Senior Discount Day on Thursdays and fitness club discounts on Fridays, to me Gooseberries cant be beat. Shop local, shop the independent businesses; keep those businesses prospering, even if it costs a little more. Its worth it in the long run.

The employee who answered the phone told us to come in that week to talk to the owner, Craig. When I went in, the cashier went to speak with the owner, who talked loudly enough for me to overhear him angrily question whether I was local (I said, yes I live here), then he accused me of trying to scam him out of money. His actual words were "SCAM-NEEDS MONEY." He agreed only to replace the items and not offer a refund, since I did not have a receipt. We have been customers here for 4 years and am rarely if ever offered a receipt. When I went to grab replacements off the shelf, every can of that brand of chili had expired in February or March 2026. This was July. I brought the expired cans to the cashier and asked him what to do since they were all expired and he said "I don't care, get a different brand." Many other brands were expired too. I managed to find one can of a different brand expiring this month and took it. Not a single package of hot dog buns had a July date. All of them were from June. The excuse offered: "They were frozen, we add our own stickers with new dates to the back." Except ours grew mold in under 48 hours. We will never shop here again under this ownership and after sharing my experience, it sounds like many locals have had negative experiences and do not shop here. If you choose to shop at the Ruch Country Store, check the dates on everything you buy here, and ask for a receipt. Accusing loyal customers of running a scam while your shelves are stocked with expired food that can make people sick is disgraceful. If just need the bare essentials, the market a few doors down will treat you better. This store is the real scam.

So now we're a little ticked off and call the store, a cashier answers and she says that the owner wasn't in that day and because we didn't have a receipt (we've never been offered one in over 4 years of coming here) that we should come in during the week and he would take care of it. Wife goes in and is met with resistance from the cashier because of the lack of receipt. He goes and talks to the owner who spoke loud enough for my wife to overhear him question if we were even local to the area and then say that we were probably just trying to scam him out of money. He only agreed to replace the items for us. Cashier tells her we can replace the items and to grab them off the shelf. All 15 or 20 cans of that brand of chili were also expired in March or Feb of 26, as were a lot of the other brands. She was able to find a can that expired this month so she took it. None of the other hot dog buns had even a July expiration date, all from June. "But they were frozen so the shelf life is longer than that." Okay, except they were moldy in less than 48 hours. This overall experience has ensured I will never shop here again until there are new owners (there will be with how he runs things). But I felt compelled to leave this review for the rest of our community in hopes that the ones who cannot go to other stores will at least check dates on their food and ask for receipts. It's disgusting to act the way he did knowing full well the store is packed with expired food that can make people sick or worse. Buy your beer from the market just a few doors down if that's all you need, because this store is the true SCAM!!

Came in to look for a bottled beer from Stone Brewing. They had two from that brewery which was…read moremore than the grocery store had. Grabbed one and we were on our way to the register to pay when the guy behind the tap counter stopped us. "Can I get you guys a sample?" He asked us as we were staring at the three electronic screens full of beer choices on tap. We weren't going to get any, but then he told us about the new Growler Cans. You can buy a can for $.99 and fill it for the price of a 32 oz growler. (The can is 32 oz). The guy that helped us was super friendly, he recommended several beers and let us sample as many as we wanted. We ended up walking out with two growler cans. I love the cans! They are a convenient way to get beer from the tap to go without having to spend money on a growler if you didn't bring one of your own. This is the second time I've been, and they've been great both times. It is, however, in a convenience store, so there's kids hanging outside. But if you don't mind people, it's a great place to run in for some great beer selections from local breweries. The downside was the price as many others stated. But I considered this a "treat" which I don't indulge in very often. Buying 64 oz is definitely a price break and a better value.
