This was my first time trying pandan chicken, and I can honestly say I haven't had it as good since.

Blink and you'll miss it. this place is just one in a line of shops on Prospect Rd…read more The food however, is very good, and reasonably priced. The decore is pleasant, with an Asian Theme. The staff were nice and courteous as well. I went with a small group, and everyone was pleased with their meals. I sampled their specials.. Entree of Taro (Curry) Puffs, the serve was small but very tasty. For main I went the special Choo Chee Soft Shell Crab.. YUMM, the Curry Sauce was delicious with a nice level of spice and full of flavour but did not overpower the taste of the well cooked crab.

Pun Thai is nicely decorated with comfortable seating and a very welcoming waitress. We were the first customers for the evening and our first choice of table was no good because the bench back was too high for the waitress to see us, she explained. Next we sat in another booth type arrangement but there was an overbearing smell (from the furniture?) so we moved again. We ordered green paw paw salad, Tom yum, and special fried rice, as well as jasmine rice. I ordered a traditional Laotian sausage. The fried rice was good and tasted fresh, with large pieces of chicken in it. The green pawpaw salad was not subtle and average. Unfortunately the sausage was just that except chopped up and served on a bed of iceberg lettuce. There was some sauce, but it wasn't very tasty. In fact I noticed that most mains were served on lettuce, resulting in an oversupply! Unfortunately although I had high hopes for the Tom yum with succulent looking prawns floating in a creamy coconut broth it was far too sweet. The prawns were not very tasty, the best Tom yum I've tasted uses whole big prawns in the shell, and doesn't use coconut. Mushrooms were plentiful but ordinary. So unfortunately, although generally fresh tasting (they have photos of their garden on Facebook) it didn't live up to my expectations. Nor did the drinks menu and knowledge of the waitress. There is a lot of competition in Adelaide and some really buzzing tasty Asian places, I think they will have to lift to survive.

Fronted by a glass-walled, open top patio, the narrow but long dining room has set tables for varying size groups with linen napkins and wine glasses just begging to be put to good use. We dropped in around 7:30 on a Friday night and there was lots of seating available. They do a steady takeaway business, so I'd recommend opting for a table that's not in the pathway from the entry to the ordering counter if you want an intimate dinner--it's not a problem, but you'll have a bit more privacy. The first thing you'll notice when you sit down is a decidedly yummy aroma coming from the open kitchen area (I like open kitchens--you can see what they are up to in there and this one was spotless too) We chose our table and were promptly provided drinking water and menus and we ordered when we were ready--no waiting, but we were not rushed either. Mains are around $20-25, starters around $8-10. Wine by the glass (with a pretty good, but not pretentious wine list) in the $7-10 a glass range. There were several specials posted on the chalk menu boards, with two dinner-for-two options. As we sat there, deciding what to order, we saw a few meals being served. While they all looked great, we wanted some variety and chose to order 4 starters to share, instead of two mains. It proved to be a good decision. We had the Salt & Pepper Squid, Chicken-Prawn Spring Rolls, Crispy Prawns in Parchment Wrap and Gado-Gado. They were all superbly accompanied by a glass of Alicante Rose from Rockford's. My favourite of the four was the Salt & Pepper Squid. It just melted in your mouth after crunching through the batter. And they didn't miss the salt part (like so many places do)-just enough salt to make it tangy, but not so much that the last piece doesn't taste as good as the first. Highly recommended! It would have been a perfect meal, except for a little dessert disappointment. They had a Bailey's ice cream item listed on the chalk board, but after ordering it, we found out they had run out. Would have been good to have taken it off the menu board instead of tempting us and then telling us no. Everything was top-notch though and we'll be back for a sampling of the mains soon. Eat drink and be merry-but not too much. JD

We had the gado gado (a bit zingy if your sensitive to spice), the crispy prawns, salt and pepper squid and spring rolls. The prawns and squid tied for top awesome award. And they have Rockfords Alicante Bouchet by the glass. Love. Sadly they were our of the Baileys Scorched almond ice cream dessert special, just when I'd had my heart set on it too! Maybe next time... Oh yes, there'll be a next time.

If you are after an authentic…read moreBangkok, cheap as chips, street-but-not-street dining experience then this is the place for you. Sitting in the dining area waiting for my takeaway order, I realised how popular this place is with the locals. The staff know their names, the regulars don't even need to look at the menu and there is a steady stream of customers through the door, on a stormy and wet night. Could the reason that they don't have all the Yelp love be because the locals want this to remain a "hidden" gem?! The menu has your standard western favourites, your honey, lemon, sweet n sour, satay, plumy sweet n sticky sauces. I usually stay away from these dishes as I'm not a huge fan of overly sweet dishes. What I love about great Thai food is the balance of sweet, salty, sour and spicy. Bangkok delight was there on all but spicy, but this could easily be fixed next time I order by simply requesting more chilli. I always order Pad See Eew over Pad Thai. Everyone generally ruins Pad Thai with ketchup rather than tamarind and a weird use of vegetables. But Pad See Eww is a simple sauce, a green, chicken and egg and some big flat rice noodles. The one I had tonight had some nice flavour from the wok and with addition of my chilli vinegar at home made it nicely balanced for my palate. The pork ribs in Klong Rard Sauce as it was one of the sweeter dishes, a traditional family recipe from the kitchen. It was a little bit sour, the meat was really tender and veggies stir fried with was still crisp. The Gai Yang was my favourite of all the dishes. Grilled marinated chicken thighs served on a shredded Thai salad, in the style of a papaya salad. The salad dressing was on point! I had it all with plain steamed rice. I hope more Yelpers gives this place a try, it was great, the service was friendly and the food delicious.
