The chips were excellent and the buttermilk chicken sandwich was delish. The breading was crispy and wasn't too heavy for being fried. We were in and out in under 40 mins. It's not the most polished of pubs but everything is spotless and just is slightly in need of a bit of decorating. There is a large function room and they do have rooms as well, hence the hotel name. There is a definite pattern in the quality of hotels that the Trafalgar Tour Company books for it's escorted tours. Everything about our tour was excellent except for the hotels. This particular hotel was one of three that I stayed at earlier this month that I would never in a million years choose for myself. Cons: - One block from the Cardiff Prison. That is really heart warming. Look at the map. - No ventilation or fans in the rooms and we could not open our window. They only have A/C in the lobby. - They need new carpet because it is very worn and it looks awful. - Elevators are old and really slow. I think there are only two. I opted to take the stairs the morning we checked out and got trapped in the stairwell with a bunch of people from my tour group. Our coach was leaving for England in 5 minute, so I ended up busting out of the Emergency Exit on the ground floor. After checking all the locked doors on every floor I really didn't care if the sirens and alarms went off. There are no good signs for the regular stairs. - Emergency Stair Well - No phones or ways to communicate with the outside world when you get stuck in there and all the doors lock behind you. Pros: - The lobby has A/C. Unfortunately, I can't sleep in the lobby. - Cardiff has some nice sites to see. Visit the Cardiff Castle if you have time. This was the best tour and we could actually sit on the furniture and touch some stuff. - We had a great dinner at the Sutton Mawr Farm which isn't too far away. I wish we could have stayed at their B&B instead of the Park Inn. - The Wi-Fi was free. If it had not been I would have deducted another star. I cannot believe this is part of the Radisson chain of hotels because it really needs a serious renovation. It is one step up from the Holiday Inn hotels I stayed at in England. Recommendations: - Check out a B & B in the country so you can enjoy the scenery. - Really check out the hotels on your itinerary if a tour company books the hotels for you. I really think this is how they make their money. They get a good group rate for a dump and they pocket the difference.

The train and bus station is a 5 minute walk away. I haven't always lived in the city so if I was ever going to gigs it was a good place to stay if booked further enough in advance. The main desk is in a unique courtyard area. I remember when it used to look like a townscape painted onto the walls so its a definite improvement. I've always found the staff to be really accommodating and while the rooms aren't the most glamourous they are conformable and have everything you need plus wifi. Rooms usually cost under £100 included breakfast and I've ever stayed here for around £50 once.

This hotel is far superior to all of the comments that have been made on other sites (including some of the good comments). Please read this and don't be blinded by others! This hotel is excellently positioned in Penarth, 4 miles outside of Cardiff. This is perfect for a stay in Cardiff because it's quieter and in an extremely nice area. With the train station literally just outside the front door, access into the city is a regular 15 minute journey at cheap fares. The hotel itself enjoys views from the upper floors that look out over the Bristol Channel, Flat Holm Island and Somerset. That's what I can a view! Penarth seafront is a 5 minute walk through a park away, and shops and restaurants are the same. It has been commented that this hotel seems tired in terms of its decor, but I really don't see this myself. While remaining traditional and retaining many features, this hotel has rooms which are dressed very smartly, and they're surprisingly modern and sophisticated. You only have to have a peep at the accommodation section on their website to see what I'm talking about. The hotel itself is located in a residential neighborhood rather than in a cute walking-about village, so at first I was disappointed, but after a walk down the road, we began to appreciate the architecture. The room was lovely. Dinner was incredible, and so was breakfast (both included). The staff was friendly and attentive. The bed wasn't too comfortable, but most of the beds I have slept on in the UK have been a little hard, in my opinion, so perhaps this is just a regional preference. The next day we explored local castle ruins and shops in villages not too far away. The hotel location is ideally suited for discovery.
