A lively bar that I've never previously patronised. Busy, friendly and good beer the Rhymney Bitter was excellent. I'll be back.

The staff was very family friendly; they allowed us to take our food to our room, had a high chair set up for breakfast, etc. These things are so appreciated when traveling with a toddler! The included breakfast is also very good. There is no elevator to the rooms but it is only one short flight of stairs. We will stay here again when we are in the area.
Recently upgraded, part of Brains brewery I think, very nice inside and good pub food.read more

I've been told the Sunday Lunch is good too; we'll have to try it! I find the Staff really excellent and the little Lady Chef is top notch! I find this place an asset to Porthcawl and if you are visiting I can inform you it is the best place to eat lunchtimes!

Food is served in the cafe which is situated in the hotel - although this is run separately from the hotel. As the Pier hotel sits on such a good site on Pothcawls promenade it is a shame that it is only a very basic hotel, and that it doesnt aspire to be something nicer or fancier - it does however fulfill it's remit of being a clean, basic and cheap hotel - which offers satisfactory accommodation for the price. The Pier bar is popular in the evenings - and has a late licence, so could present some noise problems for the guests on weekends.

Cheap and cheerful. The rooms could do with updating but…read moreroomy and acceptable. The window near the bed was draughty, so we moved the bed and some mould on the carpet near the bath but all was clean. The shower was difficult to work. However, the redeeming qualities were the pleasant staff and newly refurbished bar and restaurant. The bar meals are ok not a great choice for vegetarians and the breakfast is acceptable. As it was a Groupon deal, it was well worth it but i am not sure i'd want to payfull price. It was very noisey despite being situated furthest away from the nightclub.

Had a mid week meal with my Wife and for £8.95 plus a free pint you can't go wrong! Always clean and tidy and the Staff are excellent! Try it if you are in the Town Centre!
Atlantic Hotel
We frequently stay for a night or two in Porthcawl. We've stayed at the Atlantic on a number of…read moreoccasions over many years on the basis that it's the best of an uninspiring choice of hotels. This year we booked a room with a sea view and, as such, it was excellent. The July weather was foul but that's not the hotel's fault! The bedroom was adequate although all of the electric sockets were underneath the fixed table and, therefore, inconvenient to access. The bathroom, however, was disgraceful with a stained blind, the toilet roll holder missing and enough chips on the bath enamel to make one think that at some point someone must have dumped load of bricks in there from a great height! We asked to be moved to another room but there wasn't one with a comparable view and its bathroom had no window and the black mould on the grouting around the bath was unappealing, to say the least. Faced with this situation and distaste for the other hotels we stayed where we were. Breakfast service was slow although the food, when it came, was palatable. When we came to pay the bill, £10 was deducted in consideration of the state of the bathroom which was a nice gesture that we hadn't requested, but we'd rather have paid full price and had a good standard bathroom. Unusually, we returned for lunch with friends and, to the Atlantic's credit, the food was good and wholesome and the quantities large

I stayed there 25 years ago and had a room over loking the sea which was absolutel wonderful. I returned there last year and was given a room at the back which overlooked a brick wall - this was very dissappointing. The room was very cramped and the bathroom was practically on top of the bed! A plus here was that it was very clean. The breakfast was good with a very good selection, good quality and piping hot. It was such a shame there was no view from the room.
