When they told me what room I was going in and it was all male....I was like nah! The were prompt to change and gave me an all female room. The did say keep bedrooms clean, so you knew you wasn't going to get a cleaner every day to change your bedding hence why I saw long stringy hair in my bunk bed that I had to pick off. I enjoyed the breakfast especially a paticular Peanut Butter I was raving to the owner about. It was from Costco! Obviously you get all sort of people- but mainly a young crowd. The have a cute small living room with plenty of choice if you wanted to watch a DVD! Also coming into the entrance of Riverhouse their are lots of information on what to do in Cardiff and the rest of Wales. I love the fact Riverhouse is near the River Taff and really close to the city centre . It was a pleasent stay overall.

Because it is hands down the cleanest hostel I've ever experienced. It feels like you're staying in someone's family home, only you are an incredibly welcome guest, rather than a paying customer. The fact that it's run by a brother and sister team may have something to do with it. The building is warm with modern bathrooms and showers, and plenty of them. The rooms have comfy beds, block out curtains and proper doonas, so there's no shivering under a sheet. There's free breakfast each day and it's an excellent spread; toast with every topping you could wish for, cereal, pastries, yoghurt, juice, and endless cups of tea and coffee. And the location couldn't be better. Right on the water, each window looks out at Millennium Stadium, so the city centre is just over the bridge.

The views from our room's patio was a perfect mix of water and skyline. The restaurant downstairs is an all encompassing eatery with delicious breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and late night drinks and snacks. The modern décor gives off a funky, museum vibe and the reception and staff do not disappoint. Taxi's into town cost 7 to 10 pounds, depending upon traffic. If you'd like to stay close to the hotel and explore; you simply walk down the water walk pathway and choose from numerous eateries ranging from high end to "average joe" hang-outs. This hotel has a spa and my friends said they were thoroughly pleased with their experience.

Obviously that all comes at a price and its probably the most expensive in town too. A basic room will set you back £200 and thats without breakfast. The suits cost over £500. Whilst it is a fantastic place its not the most amazing 5 star place i've seen or been in. Sometimes I find the staff to be a little bit lax and its starting to a look a bit tired and so maybe they rely too much on its past reputation that getting in perfect every time. Still i'd thoroughly recommend the spa breaks here, wonderful setting, brilliant service.

If you're looking for a last minute cheap room, you're not going to find it here. Their prices only go up and up and up. Internet is not free, but my WWAN dongle had a full 3G signal. It's a very new property. So new that the most recent Google image still shows dirt as I write this in July 2011. There is a Lidl next door and the shopping centre ("center" in American) across the roundabout has a nice pub, a chippie, a Chinese take-away and a Tesco Express. It's about a one mile walk to the Festival grounds down Nantgarw Road, which takes you just past Aber Rail station. I wouldn't want to walk it at night, but in the daytime it was fine. There are about 50 rooms in the hotel on three floors. My room was on the top floor (the penthouse - wa-hey!) and at the end of the corridor. Even still, there was the occasional slammed door from one of the other rooms. No other hallway noise or neighbor could be heard. The bed was a little on the soft side, but still comfortable. The duvet was similarly comfortable and I was glad for the three pillows. Quite lacking in other accoutrements. The only other things not nailed down was the chair and the bin. A small coffee and tea service was most welcome. The work desk area was large and there was a small closet area with hangars and two small shelves. It was a good room and if I come back to Caerphilly, I would stay here again.
