The views from our room's patio was a perfect mix of water and skyline. The restaurant downstairs is an all encompassing eatery with delicious breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and late night drinks and snacks. The modern décor gives off a funky, museum vibe and the reception and staff do not disappoint. Taxi's into town cost 7 to 10 pounds, depending upon traffic. If you'd like to stay close to the hotel and explore; you simply walk down the water walk pathway and choose from numerous eateries ranging from high end to "average joe" hang-outs. This hotel has a spa and my friends said they were thoroughly pleased with their experience.

Sometimes I find the staff to be a little bit lax and its starting to a look a bit tired and so maybe they rely too much on its past reputation that getting in perfect every time. This hotel is far superior to all of the comments that have been made on other sites (including some of the good comments). Please read this and don't be blinded by others! This hotel is excellently positioned in Penarth, 4 miles outside of Cardiff. This is perfect for a stay in Cardiff because it's quieter and in an extremely nice area. With the train station literally just outside the front door, access into the city is a regular 15 minute journey at cheap fares. The hotel itself enjoys views from the upper floors that look out over the Bristol Channel, Flat Holm Island and Somerset. That's what I can a view! Penarth seafront is a 5 minute walk through a park away, and shops and restaurants are the same. It has been commented that this hotel seems tired in terms of its decor, but I really don't see this myself. While remaining traditional and retaining many features, this hotel has rooms which are dressed very smartly, and they're surprisingly modern and sophisticated. You only have to have a peep at the accommodation section on their website to see what I'm talking about. This has been a location for the Torchwood series in the past, if you're in any way sci-fi inclined. With an Italian restaurant (Villa Napoli) at the front, you'll be very well catered for in the Glendale Hotel.

I came here a few years ago when the hotel offered an open day for local events organisers (I was dating one at the time, so of course I tagged along). We toured each of the six rooms, all sumptuously decorated and boasting amazing views of the Bay. But the rooms aren't just beautiful, they're functional as well, with free Wifi and an iPod dock fitted in each. One of the best things about staying here would be the access to Bar Cwtch, where you can enjoy a full Welsh breakfast in the dining area. It's also a fantastic bar to enjoy a few evening drinks before heading out to the surrounding Mermaid Quay bars and restaurants. That being said when you do find it, its located right on the wharf so it feels peaceful and you have the lovely Wharf pub right next door too. It is a budget hotel so you have to pay for car parking and stuff like that and you can expect to find clean comfortable rooms but not much in the way of luxury. You do get a decent continental breakfast though with some bacon and eggs too. Probably worth getting a taxi into town if you dont fancy the 15 minute walk. The staff are knowledgeable and should be able to give you suggestions for where to go.

When they told me what room I was going in and it was all male....I was like nah! The were prompt to change and gave me an all female room. The did say keep bedrooms clean, so you knew you wasn't going to get a cleaner every day to change your bedding hence why I saw long stringy hair in my bunk bed that I had to pick off. I enjoyed the breakfast especially a paticular Peanut Butter I was raving to the owner about. It was from Costco! Obviously you get all sort of people- but mainly a young crowd. The have a cute small living room with plenty of choice if you wanted to watch a DVD! Also coming into the entrance of Riverhouse their are lots of information on what to do in Cardiff and the rest of Wales. I love the fact Riverhouse is near the River Taff and really close to the city centre . It was a pleasent stay overall.
