We booked this hotel for a concert at Tatton Park, and managed to get a room for £80. The staff were pretty disoriented dealing with a group booking, and they seemed reluctant to help with our bags. They pointed out that I was unlucky being on the top floor - something I wouldn't have thought twice about otherwise. It was also overlooking the main road, so was quite noisy on the night. That said, the room was clean and comfortable. It was very traditional and pretty small, but certainly did the job for the night. There's a downstairs bar with lots of sofas too, which made a good meeting point before heading to the concert. It was a short stroll to the centre of Knutsford and the entrance of Tatton Park, which was great. They were also very relaxed about what time we came back too - not that we were too late! All in all, comfortable stay but nothing to write home about! A good overnight stop for a trip to Tatton Park

The rooms are ample but the bathrooms are big and, most importantly, the place is clean. The downstairs bar is nice and cozy with good food to boot. The only con is the noise which seem to emanate from everywhere especially from the other rooms. Thin walls I guess.

Checking in was simple and unfussy, and the foyer decor and restaurant seemed cool, clean and upmarket as we walked to our ground floor room. Our room wasn't as impressive as the public-facing side of the hotel, with quite a dated feel and rough-around-the-edges facilities, such as a temperamental shower, old, marked bedding and no special extras. We were surprised to discover that we had no robes, despite the spa booklet encouraging guests to visit the spa suitably dressed. A quick call to reception fixed this, though. Also, the room had no fridge, just a kettle and some tea/coffee, an iron and ironing board and a simple TV. Wifi was actually quite good, and free. This was useful, as there was no service for our Three phones. We enjoyed the spa facilities, including an outdoor jacuzzi that children are not allowed to use, and decent indoor amenities, such as a steam room, sauna and pool. There was some unobtrusive improvement work going on during our stay, which is a good sign. Our first night's sleep was terrible, being hot (the air conditioning seems to turn itself off at night) and a bed that desperately needs replacing. It was like sleeping on a bean bag full of coat hangers. We swapped to a different room for our second night's stay, but felt like we had requested something unusual. In fact, many of the staff often seemed stunned by simple questions, with the exception of the friendly general manager, who looked and acted the part. Despite paying just over £90 a night for our room, breakfast wasn't included, but we were close enough to Knutsford, which is a lovely little place and has some good places to eat. It's better to drive, though, as the road leading to Knutsford has very fast traffic going by. If you do want to stay at the hotel for breakfast, you can pay £12+ for a pre-booked table, or £14+ to walk in on the day. Our one and only experience at the nice-looking restaurant was for dinner, which was a particular let-down. Service was slow and laissez-faire, while the food was just poor. We ordered good old-fashioned fish and chips (haddock with thick-cut chips). The chips were undercooked while the fish was tasteless. We paid more than £30 for our meal and left half of it. So, a good spa, outdated rooms that need a bit of freshening up, disinterested staff but friendly GM, no laundry service (when we stayed), poor dining experience and good location.

Wireless is free as long as you can access it! On my second stay, they stuck me in a corner room with absolutely no chance of acquiring signal. At least it gave me a good reason to stay in Knutsford town center late and just come back to sleep at the hotel. Also, be sure that you do not need to do laundry. If I remember correctly, they wanted something like 6 or 8 quid to have a pair of trousers washed and pressed. Lets say I ended up doing laundry in the bathtub! The restaurant is open quite late and had to order a sandwich twice with a pint or two of Thwaites on cask. I was very impressed with the sandwich in regards to its size and quality given its price of just over 10 quid. My one complaint is that the first time I ordered food, I had picked a different sandwich and provided a special request. I was told that the sandwiches were premade - disappointment! Then when I ordered a different sandwich, it took nearly an hour to bring! I was told they had to make it. Excuse me, this makes no sense! I expressed my unhappiness with the situation and at least they comped me a pint, so they keep their 3 stars for service. They also let me store my luggage in the storage room as I checked out Tatton Park after checking out which was nice. In summary, nice hotel and it ended up costing about 84 pounds a night with tax included. However, not too happy with the laundry fees. Also, on my first stay they didnt exactly tell me about the free breakfast. Instead, I ended up making peanut butter sandwiches before heading out to work. Imagine how happy I was when I found out a proper English breakfast buffet was included with my stay?
