Rosaryville State Park is a public park on what was once a plantation in the 18th century. To that end, there's the original plantation's mansion, a tobacco barn, and a dairy barn still on the property that you can explore. In addition, there are nature preserves and parking throughout the park. It's free to enter.

Great park awesome beautiful trail. It's very peaceful and they have mile markers telling you how far along your journey you are. Once you get to 30 you are home free It's a hard walk the trail is hilly with a lot of slopes and curves. Please know it's not easy and unless you walk 6+ miles weekly you will get tire and your feel will cry. It says that it's only 8.9 miles but as you can see from my pictures it's 9.5 give it take. They are currently doing some kind of construction and have set up safe ways to go around. Download ALLTRAILS App it will help if your unsure about what way to go

Rosaryville State Park is a multi-recreational park located in Upper Marlboro, MD. The historic Mount Airy Mansion is located within the 982 acre park and is an ideal place to hold parties, weddings, family reunions, and birthday celebrations. Included, but not limited to, Rosaryville offers nature trails at different challenge levels for hikers, bikers, and equestrians, covered pavilions for gatherings and events, open area for large festivals and outdoor events, and a play area for kids. Note: there is construction going on within the park but the affect on visitors is currently minimal.

Rosaryville State Park is a bit of a mixed bag. It is a small state park just west of Route 301, and its calm, quiet atmosphere contrasts pretty nicely with that rather busy highway. There are essentially three reasons why anyone would want to visit here: hike, mountain bike, or attend a wedding. Seriously. For the wedding goers, it turns out that the Mt. Airy mansion lies roughly in the center of the park, and it is accessible by an entirely different road than the traditional park entrance. Said mansion is typically rented out for weddings on weekends. I did not visit the park for this reason, but more information can be had on that by looking at the Mt. Airy reviews. For mountain bikers and hikers alike, there is one trail: the Perimeter Trail. It extends roughly 9 miles, as you may have surmised, around the perimeter of the entire park. The trail is maintained and principally used by mountain bikers. As such, it tends to meander in places unnecessarily often offering up switchbacks where a simple hill would suffice (at least from the point of view of a hiker). Along the way, the terrain is pretty mixed. There are gullies, stream beds, open fields, an extended easement for power lines, some houses, and an old, presumably abandoned barn. It's great for bird watching and seeing deer. The trail is fairly well-marked in both directions, though there was one questionable spot that had me going right instead of left with less than 100 percent certainty. By marked, I mean little signs with arrows pointing the way. Sometimes the signs indicate the mile, but that is only in one direction and not the other. There are no blazes. Overall, it is not a bad hike. It is pretty manageable in about 3 hours at a fast pace, 4 hours at a slower pace. Price of admission is $3 for MD residents and $4 for the rest of us and is handled by the honor system. Ideally it is suited for mountain bikers, but it can make for a decent, relaxing, quick hike.

Great location and great area. Not sure why they charge if it's a state park. Only if you are driving in.

Great ride for local after work trail. Weekdays are better then weekends, less people and fewer horses make for a faster ride!

Seriously my current favorite stretch of trails in the state of Maryland, you have the option of going to either vista(we did both when we were out there and added a few miles on another trail) and both views are awesome. Be prepared for some good elevation climb, I clocked our highest gain of being 1800 feet - felt hard core. Just doing either one of the trails will be a good trek and not overwhelming for any novice hiker. Doing both might be a bit much for those not well versed in walking for really long periods of time. Dog friendly, but please leash your creatures. All it takes is one friendly unleashed dog to run up to a not friendly leashed dog and then everyone's trail experience is ruined. We finished just shy of 15 miles for our day, and felt great! Annapolis Rock is the steeper climb albeit shorter at around 2.2 miles out then 2.2 miles back(4.4 mile hike). Washington Monument is an easier trail though it's a bit longer and around 3.5 miles out then 3.5 back. Highly recommend, super easy to find with the parking strip right off the road!

She went over map of area, described the trails, what was closed for repair or Eagle nesting. She also gave us a bird check-list which upon reviewing will definitely be back in Spring in hopes of getting a couple Lifers. Clean restrooms and plenty of displays of local wildlife. We visited 09 Feb 2024 (mid-day) so bird activity was somewhat quiet, but did spot several types of Woodpeckers to include a few Red-Heads. We also saw some sparrows, tufted titmouses, robins, crows and seagulls. Trails were nicely marked and not too strenuous. Plenty of boardwalks and viewing blinds to view wildlife. Plenty of parking and entrance fee of $6 is reasonable to support the upkeep of such a nice Sanctuary. They also have memberships which we would do if a little closer to home. Will be back for sure.

Here are a few things to note: 1) Parking: The park opens at 9am and parking is free during the week. If you go on a weekend, it's $6 per vehicle. 2) Classes: Once you park and walk to the education center, you'll notice the array of classes and events they host from kayaking to birdwatching to gardening. The center is closed due to the pandemic, but they do lay out helpful maps outside to guide your visit. 3) Exploration: There are many trails throughout the sanctuary with signs that guide you. There's a boardwalk out into the wetlands with beautiful views of the Patuxent River. As you walk along the boardwalk, look for wildlife like frogs and heron. Most of the trails are wooded with fun things to find along the way like a blue tic-tac-toe board made from shells. There are observation decks along the trails as well. 4) Points of interest: Nearby the actual sanctuary are a few other fun things to visit like the Glendening Butterfly Garden and Nature Preserve and the Mount Calvert Archeological Park. Jug Bay Wetlands is a great place for a day trip for adults and kids! It gives you a little bit of everything from nature to wildlife to history.

The lake itself is gorgeous, and always so picturesque.... I have hiked the Lakeside Trail a few times, which is about three miles and mostly wooded, with two creek crossings (one easy, the other more difficult, requiring stepping on stones that could be slippery or even, at times, underwater). The first time we hiked the trail we did get lost as we skipped the difficult creek crossing and ended up going straight, and almost right back out of park...so bring water to drink and wear (or bring) a pair of shoes that can handle the creek water (it's not safe to swim--so I'm assuming, or wade around--in). UPDATE: Part of the Lakeside Trail has construction going on around it (near the easier stream crossing) and last time we encountered it we decided to turn around rather than trying to get around the mess...but there are other parts of the trail to explore, including hiking along the path that' intersects with Rock Creek Trail (or you can go around the other end of the Lakeside Trail, close to the Avery Park entrance...) Usually when we're here we don't do the entire trail, anyway, but turn around at various points, depending upon how long we want to walk. Although the park does get busy on weekends (and it can be difficult to get a parking spot at the Avery Park lot) the further along the trails you go the less people you'll encounter. Weekdays are also pretty peaceful. I look forward to visiting the Meadowside Nature Center when it reopens--this is located at the other park entrance at Muncaster Mill Road.
