I love this place! Since I've had my LO this has been where we come to walk and use the playground. Walking around the pond is so serene, from listening to the water and the ducks to just people watching. There are playgrounds that are separated by age, with tandem swings and soft grounds for falls. This park is my go to for breaks during the day and it is less crowded than Watkins. read more

Great park that is good for ALL the functions. Cookouts, family gatherings, picnics, quiet time, children play dates, walks with friends, sports practice, etc., this is an amazing family-friendly location. I met up with a group of friends and walked the paved trail for a mini-cardio session. Glad I finally made it to this park! I wanted to switch up my usual walking/jogging spots and this was a nice change of scenery. I suggested this place to a friend who lives like 10 minutes away and he himself had never been. Now he will be coming alot more! Thanks to me. I got here around 9 on a Saturday morning and it was already packed! Not like no where to move but more than I expected. I believe there was a breast cancer walk going on. Some folks were also setting up for a picnic. Others were just exercising like me! During the summer months, they have boating options. It's very picturesque with plenty of parking. Nice hidden gem behind the Bowie Town Center. I wish I would have known about this park, when I was a student at Bowie State University. I have seen students relaxed working on laptops at the nice shady spots at the benches near the pond. The pond is man made, but it is nice with water fountains. There is a playground and a concert sage for festivals which is an added bonus. I like how the park has smooth pavement and not gravel for walking. This is excellent for walking, jogging, running, biking, you name the park path is a large circle where a bit of the park is out in the open and other parts of the park has excellent tree coverage. This makes the park more bearable in summer and other hot/warmer months with ample tree coverage than the open parks that don't provide coverage. The trees are beautiful and is picturesque. There is a boathouse and pier with the option seasonally to rent the cartoon boats such as the swan boats which provides the park with a nice waterfront bonus. The park is great for picnics, cookouts, water activities, exercise you name it and is a hidden gem in Bowie. read more

I love Allen's Pond and bringing people (such as friends or family) here to experience the scenery and amenities. My wiener dogs love to trot around the paved path that surrounds the perimeter of the pond. There are also "off trail" areas where you can get more of a (mild) hiking experience, walk up to a gazebo and get beautiful views overlooking the pond. I used to go fishing here as a kid. I can't fish to save my life, in fact I hooked my own rear end back in the day. But the overall atmosphere still makes it a joy to go back and continue to not catch fish I enjoy watching other ppl catch them instead. Same thing, kind of. There's canoeing and paddle boating...all of that good stuff. It's right next to a series of sports fields and directly across from their indoor ice rink. As well as a skate park. In terms of safety...Bowie Police Department is right around the corner and they maintain consistent security for those that visit. Not just for personal protection but also regulate compliance (keeping the location clean, free of trash and maintaining civil/appropriate conduct). They are very vigilant in keeping a look out for your personal safety. For example, If you were to fall into that pond I don't doubt for a second that someone would be there to assist you in record timing. They take compliance very seriously and definitely have done a great job in doing so. Same goes for the Allen's pond park security guards, not just the PD. Years ago they upgraded all of their jungle gym equipment. I'm 30 years old and even I find something cool to spin around or relax on. No more bringing the kids to the park and staring at them all bored while they play! There's also outdoor grills and picnic tables available to the public to use. This is a great park. It has a nice pond you can walk around. There are basketball courts, two playgrounds. One for bigger kids with a side park for little kids. And the other is for little kids. The kids have such a great time here. Suggestion: bring water, bring snacks or lunch. There are tables you can eat at. My grandkids are 12, 6 and 2 and all have a fantastic time every time we come here. read more

This place is an outdoor, fresh air haven in Bowie. There are so many perfect areas to sit qnd enjoy the lake view. Parking is easy and there are plenty of available free spots. There are many playgrounds, benches, picnic tables, and Instagram worthy photo spots. Each area is clearly labeled and easy to locate, so if your group is having a party, you can easily communicate where in the park you are. There is a walking path around the entire park. Lots of visitors were walking their side dogs. The pond in the middle has several simple water fountains. This place is great for people watching. This park is my absolute favorite! There are not many like it in Prince George's County Maryland. There is so much to see and do including: a ice rink, skateboard, several ball fields, bbq rental spaces, a pond that many people walk around for exercise, a toddler and big playground, stage & events (including fireworks), outdoor exercise stations, and a big pond with ducks and some even go fishing. This is a clean place where you can enjoy sitting by the pond alone or enjoy with family. I love this park because there is so much to do and see. They even offer paddle boating. Ample room for soccer, lacrosse, and football games. Basketball courts and skate park too! An ice cream truck comes around for the necessary goodies and the ice hockey rink in the park also offers hot foods such as hot dogs, pizza, nachos, pretzels and chicken strips! Closes at dusk. This park has so much. The main entrance off of Northview Road leads to a rather large parking lot, with several normal spaces to the right, and angled spaces in front of the ice rink building to the left. Yes, that's right! You can ice skate in this park! My personal favorite part of the park is the big pond with a rather peaceful looking fountain in the middle that is on during the warmer months. Surrounding the pond is a trail that people enjoy either walking, jogging, or even fishing! It makes for a rather scenic adventure. Each section of the path has something special to offer. The area closest to the parking lot also has a stage. I have seen different types of bands and dancers perform on multiple occasions there. There's plenty of grass to either sit on or bring chairs to. Another part of the path is wooded, and in the midst of the trees is a big gazebo that is located up a slight hill. Another part of the path has docks (where most of the fishing occurs) where you can rent paddle boats for the pond. The same side also has playgrounds so children can play happily and parents can watch on. Away from the path, there is still even more to do. There are pavilions for having cookouts, and some fields for sports. It's been great growing up near a park like this! read more

I've grown up in Bowie and other parts of PG County -- I have been visiting Allen Pond Park for years and will continue to do so. There are so many new and different things to do, for all seasons on the year! During the sport's seasons, the park is filled with soccer and baseball players who have games on the multiple fields on any given Saturday or Sunday. When these fields aren't in use, I've noticed that they're still accessible for the public to jump on and play on them. There are recreational basketball courts and even a skate park that are free to use for the public. On any given weekend or summer evening, these two areas of the park are packed. As you continue into the park, you'll notice the huge pond, amphitheater, playground spaces, and picnic areas. The pond area is extremely enjoyable in the spring and summer -- they rent paddle boats for $5 per hour which is alot of fun. The cookout spaces are fairly easy to rent and obviously the perfect start to a fun day. They have updated some of the playground spaces within the last couple of years which is a plus. In the summers, they hold scheduled events and performances at the amphitheater -- how fun! In the winter months, the Ice Rink is the center of attention. They host 'Open Skate' times which allow the general public to enjoy a few spins on the ice. The facility itself isn't special, but the atmosphere is nice and my friends and I have always enjoyed a day on the ice. Lastly, for those Pokemon Trainers out there, Allen Pond is a great spot to catch Pokemon. There is always a nest that covers the entirety of the park (usually a Nidoran nest) so it's easy to get tons of candies. There are a solid 10 pokestops within the Park and a great gym. I'll continue to visit Allen Pond -- I'm a big fan! read more

Ok, I live next to the pond. And since I retired, I've been on a 10,000 steps per day mission. That's just short of 5 miles for me. To ensure I get to my objective, I try walking all of it when I wake up. Many times, I just walk around the pond. It's only less than a mile, so I must walk 6 times around and to/from my house to achieve my goal. I've walk every where, but I feel safe here, free from car exhaust and have a nice view of my walk. The place is small, but well kept. Many picnic areas are in the park, which appears that you need to get reservations for most of them. A couple of playgrounds are here to keep your kids busy. An ice rink is also located here. The walk around the pond has a nice paved path and a third of it is in the shade. There's a small bridge and a dirt path that goes up an island where a gazebo exist. Fishing, with a state permit is allowed. They stock the pond on a periodic basis. If you're looking for a relaxing small place to read your book or take a stroll, then this is the place. read more

There is a skate boarding area, we sat down to enjoy the talented teens. You have an ice skating ring, we didn't have the chance to visit. A large soccer field. They have two large play grounds. Kept very clean. Their are restrooms near by, which are kept clean. A pond to go fishing or ride on a boat, $10 for 30 minutes. You have the opportunity to fish in the pond. The trail has a great scenery. Best part they have a workout station with instruction and illustration for proper use. They have a stage, so I can imagine all the fun activities. Allen Pond is a really nice family park. Its huge and has lots of activity to do. Theres multiple soccer fields, BBQ area, paddle boats to rent to ride on the pond. Theres a nice fountain in the middle of the pond and also an island in the middle of it that has a bridge to cross and venture into. Very scenic. Lots of parking throughout however, on Saturdays and Sundays during the spring and summer, finding a parking can become somewhat challenging. Great spot to jog, hike, bike, play or just relax under the trees. read more

I have been out few times since and forgot to post an updated review. The toddler section is new and even better now! There's a swing that parents can put their baby in and swing with them now. The 5-12 year old playground is the same (still a lot of fun though). Plenty of parking and wonderful path to walk. Only reason I can't give it 5 stars is that the bathrooms are always locked when I'm there. So I have to take my little one to the rink to use the bathroom. read more

Remember the days when "going to the mall" in Bowie meant strolling through the near-vacant halls of Market Place and Freestate? If you wanted to rent a movie, you went to Metro video or Video Unlimited, and when you drove down Old Chapel you saw horses rather than housing? Ahh yes, how our little Levitt town has changed over the years. Fortunately, like the neighborhoods that are arranged alphabetically, some good things can't be bulldozed by money hungry developers, and Allen Pond is invariably one of those good things. In high school, I was in this silly little band that played a youth festival held by the city in Allen Pond. I remember the Bowie Blade reported over 200 kids showing up. It was probably more like 50, but God bless the city of Bowie for trying. Fourth of July was another story entirely. It could be 105 degrees outside with 200% humidity and you'd still see people camping out early with their picnic blankets and lawn chairs ready for fireworks. Get there any time before 4 pm and you'd be walking 2 miles to your car at the end of the day, glow necklaces making rainbow halos around your hanging, tired appendages. And depending on your company, well-worth the exhaustion. British Car Day is a fond memory as well. Lines of meticulously well-kept regal babies of middle-aged men like my dad. I remember liking the hot dogs available, looking for shade at all costs, feeding the ducks at the pond, and telling my dad I wanted a red convertible MG when I got older. I played softball in the fields, had girl scouts parties in the pavilion, birthday parties at the park, and figure skating lessons at the rink. When I got older, it was broom ball at the rink, "hanging out" in the park while my friends tried to sneak a few underage smokes (oh, the days of teenage apathy and angst), and a Mt. Oak youth group fourth of July challenge involving packets of unsweetened blue kool-aid gone terribly, terribly wrong in front of the caboose and about 150 of my peers (and thousands of fourth of July fireworks-goers). And of course, the aforementioned youth concert. Even when there weren't malls worth visiting, there was Allen Pond Park, and I hope, despite urban sprawl and corporate takeover, that's where it will stay. read more

Shockingly cute little park for Bowie. I suppose Bowie isn't all bad. In fact, I'd name this park the best of Bowie, depending on when you go. Often when I go it's to hoop or to run. I believe 1 & 1/2 laps is a mile, something like that. I use the "Map My Run" app to track this. I prefer to with an hour before sundown, as there can be some pretty hot patches earlier (as well as well shaded ones) but also for the insanely gorgeous views as the sun sets. This is a great run to bring my dogs on also. Most of the people here don't seem to mind the dogs. There is also a cute gazebo in a very well tree shaded area across from the pond. It's a great picnic, reading, photo opportunity or just relaxing area tucked away from the main area of the park. It's usually pretty quiet on this side. The park appears to be very well maintained, and I don't go weekends in the summer to avoid crowds. I did attend one Sunday last summer for a music in the park event, which was free, and oddly the crowd was light but the event was awesome. My niece and boyfriend really enjoyed it as well. If fishing or paddle boating is your thing, this is a good spot for that. Across the parking lot is an ice skating rink too. Not the best rink, but I've been able to use the facilities there though I'm unsure if that is regularly permitted. Also during warm weather months an icecream wagon can typically be found here. This park is great for: * babysitters, because there are several play areas at the park * those that like to fish, because there are fish in the pond. At least I hope so because I saw several people sitting in chairs looking like they were fishing. * those that like to walk and jog. beautiful scenery around the pond. * cook-outs - several grills and picnic tables are located in the park. * those that like to paddle boat. there are paddle boats and paddle swans to rent to paddle around the pond. * listen to music - there is a small amphitheater right off the pond This was a very serene park. Oh and the park is good for folks that like to take several seats during their walks. There are benches all along the walking trail.
