Warning.... you have to be mentally prepared for buying any pens here. If you go in with "thin…read moreskin" this will be a 1 or 2 star experience for you. The owner has been in the pen selling business for 30 to 40 years and he will tell you that. I heard it at least 2 times. Assume that he will know much much more about pens than you will ever know, no matter how many years you have been collecting pens. It takes some pride swallowing on your part. But if you can toughen your hide and treat this guy like he is God's answer to the perfect pen sales guy then you will have a good experience. He taught me several things that I did not know before. He had a big selection of fountain pens. He spent plenty of time with me. I got a price on an Aurora 88 that was $50 less than the online price (it did not have the box though). but he also threw in a free bottle of ink. I wanted a fine nib and he said it was fine. When I got home it was much thicker than all my other fines so I brought it back. I was sort of expecting a fight as the guy is short and confident with some of his comments. He said that all the Aurora nibs are hand made and there is some variation. He said that he wanted to make sure I was happy with the pen so he found another Aurora that was fine or extra fine (they are not marked) and he swapped nibs. I already had inked and used the first nib so I was surprised he did that. So..... tuck your pride away for 15 minutes and learn a lot and get a great deal. It may also give you a funny story to tell to your friends.

However I…read moreonce I asked the owner if he had an open sample of a pen used for calligraphy pen for me to try, he became very rammy, unfriendly, and condescending. I stated I wanted to try ANY pen and nib combination he had in the store just to see how his Lamy pens released ink, and that sent him on his tangent. I told him I was a beginner and used to felt calligraphy pens. He was adamant that those were not calligraphy pens. After a few attempts of explaining what I was looking for and explaining why I would need to try one of his pens before I bought one, I decided to walk away stating "I'm sorry I'm leaving, I don't like this", to which he said as I was walking out "If you want expert advice you need to listen." All in all a tragically bad experience which could have been a wonderful experience if he was easier to get along with. Very condescending and rude, yet knowledgeable on his products. Sorry, dude.

However, while I was travelling two months later, the new soles began to detach, leaving me with dangerous flaps at the front and leaking water. I bought some super-glue and fixed them as well as I could (not very well). When I returned to Victoria, I took them back and complained--rationally and calmly. The young woman didn't apologize and said I wouldn't have to pay for the new repair! I said I flipping well hoped not. When I came to pick them up, her father was there, and I mentioned to him that the defect had been seriously inconvenient and it would be good customer service at least to offer an apology. He became very hostile and said--get this--that their repairs weren't guaranteed, they were fixing them without further charge, and I was unintelligent. Right. So there you go, folks. If you want to pay $100 for a "repair" that isn't guaranteed not to fail within two months and then get insulted by a rude old man, this is just the place.

I really appreciate that SAS sells shoes in varying widths for my narrow feet. I was greeted upon…read moreentry and was helped by someone who really knew the brand's product, styles and sizes. I appreciated the high touch sales experience as I have a hard time with fit. I just wish that the styles were a little more fashion forward. The price point is higher so I hope the quality is also there, but so far I am very happy with my purchase.

Unless you want to set fire to a couple hundred dollars I would avoid this place like the plague…read more Unskilled staff, hard sell and very poor inventory. I have a difficult foot to fit - high instep, etc. I live about an hour and a half away so called ahead of time to discuss fit. I was assured their staff all are fit experts and that they stand behind their shoes fitting properly. I travelled to Victoria on a Saturday. The woman I dealt with ended up selling me a pair of sandals and a pair of ballet flats - somewhere over $400 for the two. The sandal instep strap was quite tight but the fitter advised "it will loosen up in an hour or two". It did not. The flats were fitting large, even with a pair of socks. Fitter did not have the proper size but said if I added heel grippers, they would be fine. I did - and nearly killed myself the first time I wore them as the left shoe is so loose it fell right off. Called to find out what could be done. If I came in they would "work with me" to adjust the fit of the shoes. Now I guess it may be possible to somehow stretch the instep strap on the sandal but in no way are they going to be able to shorten the flat or lengthen my foot. They stand "behind" alright - behind their return policy for the shoes. There is no standing behind their inept and hard sell fitters/sales people. The person I talked to actually indirectly accused me of misrepresenting what the fitter had said.....I have a witness so nice try. All this store wants is to sell shoes, they don't care if they are the right shoes or if they fit properly. I have had SAS shoes before - purchased in a store that actually knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, those stores are not in Victoria. I will NEVER go back to this one and will make sure everyone I know is aware as well. Really really poor customer service.

During a short visit to Duncan for Father's Day, I was excited to spend quality time with my Dad and treat him to some new clothes. We searched for menswear options and Outlooks came up first, so we headed there full of enthusiasm and ready to shop. We walked in smiling and ready for a great experience. I introduced my Father and explained we were looking to outfit him with some new pieces. The saleswoman took one look at him and flatly said, "We have nothing for him." No effort. No conversation. No alternative suggestions. Just a dismissive brush-off and out the door we went--feeling dejected and frankly, unwelcome. Thankfully, just two doors down was Jim's Clothes Closet. Not only did they greet us warmly, but their amazing team, especially CoCo, helped my Dad find pants in the exact size the Outlook's employee insisted wouldn't fit him. On top of that, he left with shirts, belts, a hat, and a great vest--plus a smile on his face. Outlooks Menswear gave us the worst customer service experience I've had in years. If you value your time, your money, and being treated like a human being, keep walking right past this place.
