In the past few years I have explored the world of holistic healing, but it took me a while to find…read morea holistic dentist. After a consult with one, I was told my mouth was smaller than average and I was a candidate for sleep apnea. Now that I'm 30, I am trying to think about long-term health and prevention as I age. So this led me down a rabbit hole of research and reading to figure out what to do. When I found my current holistic dentist, she recommended me to Suzanne for myofunctional therapy. I was excited about the idea of helping my mouth health in a non-invasive way. Suzanne did not disappoint. In our consultation she was thorough and organized, approaching my mouth history and evaluation gently and in a way that made me feel comfortable. We started our sessions the following week. She had my bag of mouth props at the ready and my sheet with that week's exercises. She showed each exercise and made sure I got it before moving on. Keep in mind myofunctional therapy sometimes involves sticking random objects in your mouth. The day after I started therapy I woke up with a sore throat and sent Suzanne a minor freak-out text. But she was calm and collected, telling me she was happy to accommodate my needs. We omitted a couple exercises, modified a couple others, and now, after she shows me the new exercises, I look online for alternatives that I can disinfect or dishwash (so far I've found titanium chopsticks instead of wooden, silicone wine stoppers instead of plastic buttons, and noodles instead of string!) It's amazing how unconscious we can be of how we breathe, how tightly we close our mouths, and where the tongue sits in the mouth. After 8 intensive weeks working with Suzanne, I noticed a huge difference in my breathing, my tongue strength, and lip strength. The other day I found an old photo from a few years ago and could see how much I was struggling to keep my lips closed. Now I look in the mirror and my lips look relaxed while closed. I still have more progress to make, but can't stop talking about my myofunctional therapy with friends and family. At first it seemed like a lot of money, but Suzanne also worked with me on a payment plan. She is such a delight to work with and the industry is lucky to have her! She is so committed to her patients and her field. And rightfully so--it's undeniable that this therapy actually works!

She brought a bag of books and toys which she would switch out to keep our daughter interested. Even when my toddler was being difficult, she did her best to find an activity that she enjoyed while working on her speech. She openly addressed my concerns and gave me tools to help my daughter work on her speech outside of therapy. Our daughter went from sounding out one syllable words to speaking full sentences. At the end of our sessions, she was evaluated by the SLP for her school district and they determined she was meeting the age appropriate milestones and did not need further speech therapy. I highly recommend Alyssa if you are looking for an SLP!

I love Ocean Beach Speech because of their Speech Therapists Meghan and Michael. The quality of care they gave to my daughter is amazing. The first speech therapist of my daughter was Meghan. When she had sessions with Meghan, she is really interacting well and she loves playing with her. I am amazed on how they make learning fun with my kid. And in every session she is sooo excited to see Meghan. She loves learning new things and she is speaking new words. I am very happy of my baby girl's progress. She loves Meghan because she always have this big smile whenever she sees her. Meghan is one of the sweet and best teacher / speech therapist they have and their substitute speech therapist Michael is also the best. Despite the important work being done in the ABA field, the company consistently fails to support…read moreits employees in meaningful or sustainable ways. One of the most concerning issues is the lack of communication and transparency. Employees often receive no notice when clients cancel sessions, resulting in wasted trips and unpaid time. In such cases, you're either told to clean the facility (an unreasonable expectation outside the role of a Behavior Technician) or you're abruptly reassigned to cover another BT's session without context or consent. The pay is among the lowest in the ABA field, especially when weighed against the emotional and physical demands of the job. The work environment is poorly maintained, with cleanliness being a recurring problem. The facility does NOT look like those posted online. The children's bathrooms and common areas are often unsanitary, raising valid concerns about hygiene, safety, and the general quality of care. A particularly troubling practice is the use of personal items like wipes brought in for one child that get used on other children, without the caregiver's knowledge. Additionally, BTs are often left in the dark about health-related issues like lice until after the situation is already "handled," which puts both staff and other clients at risk. Unsurprisingly, the company suffers from a very high turnover rate, which reflects the broader issues within the organization and further destabilizes the workplace. Overall, they show little regard for employee well-being, professional development, or proper client care. Even by looking at the reviews the only 5 star reviews are for speech therapists, not from the work being done!

We have not met a more skilled Speech and Language pathologist than Sarah. Her passion for helping children with speech and language needs and providing families with education on how to best support their children is indispensable. During the past 5 years my daughter has received speech and language services from at least 6 different professionals. Sarah has stood out as the most exceptional therapist we've worked with. She was able to asses my daughters language struggles and offer the best treatment. She has also taught us as a family how to support our daughter not only in school but in the outside world as well. She also suggested activities and at home practice to make my daughters therapy more effective. My daughter instantly felt at ease with Sarah's help. Facing academic struggles made my daughter anxious and frustrated. Sarah could relax her by teaching my daughter skills that helped her better understand and advocate for herself. As well, I learned how my daughter thinks and how to navigate all the IEP meetings. It is tough trying to comprehend all your child needs and having someone like Sarah to advocate for your child is priceless. Even though we had to move, Sarah has always offered to be involved in my daughters education. She has continued to assist us in understanding our rights and how to keep the services my daughter needs with her no matter where she goes. Our family and teachers have seen such an improvement in our daughter's learning, she feels more confident since Sarah has taught her how to tackle her own unique struggles. Additionally, we are equiped with a better understanding of what our daughter needs to achieve her educational goals. We've been blessed by Sarah's help and have full confidence that she will be a positive speech and language pathologist to many others who need her.
