During her first grade year, my daughter's teacher felt there may be an obstacle when it came to…read morereading and recognizing sounds. At the end of first grade after a semester with a literacy specialist at her school and some tutoring with only slight improvement, I had Maris tested for dyslexia. The assessment showed that Maris was dyslexic with the majority of it showing up in her writing and more specifically, spelling. During second grade Maris spent three days per six-day cycle with a learning specialist at her school. Her reading was improving significantly and had come up to grade level. However, her writing was still notably behind. Enter Jodie Schuller and Associates Therapies for Success (and WOW does the name speak TRUTH!) Maris began her sessions the summer before third grade and carried them through her first-semester meeting with her therapist twice per week. The first few weeks were incredibly eye-opening for me as a parent. I saw Maris come home excited as she relearned how to spell. Her therapist worked with her in ways that allowed Maris to retain, understand, and be able to spell the words correctly on her own. I hadn't realized how much she was struggling until she began learning in a way that she was able to grasp and duplicate. The guilt set in with me but the gratitude prevailed. From week to week Maris learned, practiced, and became efficient at new techniques that enabled her to become a proficient reader and strengthened her writing skills. Excuses and avoidance behavior began to diminish and were replaced with an understanding of the tools she was given and a new avenue for success academically. Maris was able to recall and understand stories that she read or were read to her. This was something that lacked success prior to coming to Jodie. While the academic growth is both measurable and incredible I am even more excited to see how Maris's confidence grew in her reading. She craves reading time now and quickly reads through book after book. She doesn't remember ever struggling to read and delightfully tells people that she has always loved reading. She asks to read to her little sister at night and often asks if she can read to me as well.

Lauren is a passionate, dedicated and energetic therapist. She showed up to each and every session in our home ready and focused on Luca. She cared very deeply about Luca's progress and went above and beyond to ensure he had every chance to access speech, language and develop to his maximum potential. There are tons of options in San Diego who treat both adults and kids, but few who just see kids. We had a good experience at another place, not great, but when we needed additional PT I looked around for another option and am so glad that I discovered Kids Therapy Associates. The facility is awesome, it's like an indoor playground! My daughter loves going to PT, there are so many fun things for her to play with while she is there, she doesn't even realize that she's doing exercises while she's there. The 3 Physical Therapists who we have seen have all been fantastic. All of them are just really great people, who are also highly qualified and great at what they do! They take the time to get to know your child, we received an extremely detailed assessment summary that was pages long after our first visit. This was extremely helpful, as it can be hard to remember everything discussed during an hour long session. I really feel like they've take the time to develop a plan specific to each child's needs. They've given me fantastic suggestions of things that I can work on at home, and are always very positive and encouraging.
