I've been going to Roots Electrolysis for over a year and it is by far the gold standard for permanent hair removal. I work with Kendra and during our very first session she was extremely professional, kind and informative about the entire electrolysis process. As someone who has suffered from PCOS since I was 14, it's been a constant cause of great shame as a woman due to my unwanted facial and body hair. It felt like a curse that I would never be able to get rid of and when I found Kendra she gave me hope and restored my confidence in my looks. Over the course of a year the hair growth I have has drastically decreased, her sessions are concentrative and effient, Kendra specializes in PCOS clients as she also battles it herself. The office is a safe space absolutely free of judgement and I look forward to the day that I am 100% hair free in those stubborn areas where society deems it unladylike to have hair. The sessions are gentle with very little irritation as long as you follow the aftercare regimens she suggests. 2 to 3 sessions per month are optimal for best results and patience is key! Came here for chin hair- after three sessions I was left with bumps in the area that was treated and zero difference. The total cost was going to be 1500$ if I continued once a month for a year. I went back to laser at luz lounge and for the job done for 200$ Sadly I wasted some of my money here but did not continue. Lisa is great! I wanted to get the hair on the back of my neck taken off, since that's a hard part for me to shave. Lisa was very attentive and considerate each step of the way and when she got close to my hairline, she checked to make sure she didn't remove more than I wanted. It's great! Roots Electrolysis with Lisa was my first experience with electrolysis. I have not visited her in years since she raised her prices, so if this review is outdated I'll take it down. However, if she is still conducting business as she did previously, I feel as if I am doing a huge disservice by not speaking about my experiences with her. While Lisa did give a general overview of what to expect, after my first session, I broke out terribly around the treated area with dozens of pustules. During my second visit, I informed Lisa about what happened. She proceeded to pull out a bottle of witch hazel and recommended I buy some for myself to apply post-treatment. She didn't offer to apply any for me, and now having visited several different electrologists, I realize this is terrible practice! A good electrologist will always offer to apply some kind of soothing astringent like witch hazel or tea tree hazel with no extra charge. If they truly care about you, they will also apply sun screen over the area as you must take great precaution to keep the treated area protected from UV rays, otherwise the area will darken. In the many times that I visited her, she never informed me of the different modalities of electrolysis. I now know that the blend method works much better for the sensitive areas of my skin rather than thermolysis. Again, these were things that I learned from other electrologists and my individual research. Reading the reviews here, I notice that nobody has said anything similar. This makes me wonder if she has since resolved these issues or if people are unaware of basic electrologist manners. However, with the rates she charges, customers deserve much better treatment than what I received. I reviewed this practice with two stars because while she was neglectful, I did see some improvement in the areas she treated. read more

Please note that this review was interestingly removed from Google maps so now I am posting it here. I would LOVE to hear Lisa's rebuddle. I really wanted this to be a positive experience. Lisa is a kind and very knowledgeable electrologist, but there are some concerns. I originally requested an hour session, but when I arrived I was told I'd be receiving a consultation which included a 10 minute session. I was a bit bummed out, but I understood that it was important to see if my skin would react badly or my pain tolerance wouldn't be high enough to take electrolysis etc. I thought it was a bit unprofessional however to change my appointment without notifying me. -At the end of the session. I asked if it was okay if I did laser because I had already paid for some sessions at another spot. She said that it was good especially when combined with electrolysis and that that was how she eventually got hairless herself. -I asked her about timing (should I schedule laser and then do electrolysis or vice versa) she proceeded to talk in circles to the point I simply left. I had no plans on returning then, but she had scheduled a slot and I just figured I'd do laser before then and give her another shot. The other big factor: her dogs. I'm born and raised in the south bay. I love beach life. I love the lax vibes, but when I'm receiving a procedure where my vag is exposed on a table, the idea of dogs and possible hair, dander, etc. being around gave me major unsanitary vibes. She was very clean, but the dogs being in the room during my session struck me as odd and unhygienic. Last, but not least: I came back for a second appointment (which was never confirmed btw, but whatevs) and one of the dogs bit me. These dogs are super small yorkies and I was raised with animals all around me so I wasn't shaken up and NO, I won't be pressing charges, I just won't be back. I truly do feel Lisa is a very knowledgeable electrologist, I just think she might need to rethink a few things as they pertain to conducting business. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Kendra. I've had many experiences with electrolysis over the years, both good and bad. My experience with Kendra has been the best so far. She's friendly and very professional. Her technique has been the least painful, as well as the most successful in permanently removing each hair. It's normal that they can grow back after a session or two, but I have infinitely less growing back than I have in the past. I have been going to Roots Electrolysis since I moved to LA from SF. It took me a while to find an electrolysis location that would be accommodating and not intimidating to work with. I worked with Kendra for electrolysis. I get electrolysis done in the bikini area-I know the area is sensitive but I get ingrown hairs from waxing, and sometimes sugaring so have decided to use electrolysis to eliminate the need to wax and hopefully eliminate the hair there for good. Kendra is patient and always checks in to make sure you aren't uncomfortable in pain. She also distracts you from the pain with conversation or puts on something for you to watch in the background which I really appreciate. I've had less hair growth in that area since coming here. If you're debating on whether or not to pull the trigger on this place, go for it. I've been going for sessions the last few months and Lisa is absolutely the best. I've heard horror stories about the process and pain, but I've never experienced any issues whatsoever. The space is located off of Lincoln on Del Rey (right behind Bevmo) with plenty of parking. It's easy to get to but of course just be prepared for traffic on Lincoln. There is a small boxing gym in the same building so don't get confused when you first walk in for an appointment. After a little research I learned laser hair removal isn't permanent & it doesn't work on fair haired people. For permanent hair removal, that leaves electrolysis. So, after asking around, I had a bit of good fortune & was referred by a friend to Lisa at Essential Hair Removal in the Riviera Village, Redondo Beach. First off, the location is neat & clean, centrally located in heart of Riviera Village with a rear entrance and ample parking in an adjacent public lot less than a block away. I found Lisa's rates to be reasonable. She has both Saturday & weekday hours, and she uses state of the art equipment. I found out during my first visit that not only is Lisa is an experienced technician, she's also an electrolysis instructor at the American Institute of Education in Tustin, CA, and she has a second location in Westchester, adjacent to Marina Del Rey. Although I was a little apprehensive when I first arrived, Lisa is a professional. She explained the procedure and what I should expect both during & after the session. Her confident easy going style quickly put me at ease. She's friendly, accommodating, discrete, non-judgmental (LGBT friendly) and a good conversationalist, but she's not pushy.
