The bouncer at the door talked about the girls in our groups chest, and also pushed them after asking if he was a bouncer for the bar (he was wearing a jacket over his official clothing). Very unprofessional and inappropriate. Don't come here if you don't want to be harassed. edit: we talked to the bartenders in the bar and they said that he was new and they would handle it. Honestly thinking they kicked me out for being Japanese at this point. Got escorted out of the building for ordering one drink, and one shot after being to only two bars tonight. Every time I've been to Rooters it has been a bad experience. Their workers are rude, belittling, and inconsiderate. It was my friends birthday and they basically kicked us out the door before we could even say hello without the slightest bit of customer service or empathy. I would never recommend this bar to a single person. They made my friends and I feel embarrassed, stupid, and inexperienced. A little compassion, and kindness goes such a long way. Something every employee there still has yet to understand. They have a lot of work to do to be able to keep up with other bars in the area. read more

This bar is awful. There's no other way to put it. Upon entrance all seemed fine, except for the stench and visible uncleanliness. We ordered right away and the bartender handed us our drinks. I tried to hand him my card to pay but he said "cash only, there's an ATM there." And pointed behind us. I've never seen a cash only business before and panicked because I only had a credit card on me, which doesn't allow me to withdraw from an ATM. My boyfriend, luckily had a card that did allow him to withdraw so we were able to pay. I wonder what would've happened if we couldn't pay, given that the drinks were already made? My boyfriend withdrew $40 thinking we might get some more drinks. Not 5 minutes later, they yelled over the loudspeaker that it was last call for alcohol at 1:15 am. That was probably for the best though, because my Moscow mule tasted more like a real mule. I could not recommend this place less, if you happen to be unlucky enough to find yourself at this bar, go for the bottles or cans- at least they can't screw those up. read more

Went here with my boyfriend and a couple of other friends last night. Immediately at the door she checks my boyfriends ID and is convinced its fake even though it's not. She says we can wait at the entrance while she calls the cops to check it out, which we were fine with doing. We waited about 20 minutes and then finally she says she's tired of waiting for the cops and she's not supposed to give the ID back "because it's fake" but she gives it back to him and tells us to leave. The only two reasons for considering this bar is its downtown location and its three nights a week of the legendary "Frank the Tank" Karaoke. Unfortunately, It happens to be the most disgusting bar downtown. The smell is really bad as you walk in and the floor feels like it hasn't dried out since the last flood. Rooters has the potential for an epic dive bar, but its manager is terrible and seemingly the major problem. But since bar tending is a competitive job, many customers will feel satisfied because the employees working are trying their best. Glasses and the taps seem to be the only clean areas of the building. However, you still might end up with an upset stomach from the majority of the rest of the bar. My advice is to drink elsewhere and just come sing your song or two. If you are going to drink, go for bottles. read more

I have been a patron of Rooters for over a decade now. That's right, 10 years and yet I can't exactly tell you why I go in the place. - The service sucks - and by sucks I mean they act like they are doing me a favor by making me a drink and letting me pay them for it. - The bathrooms are smelly, dirty and that nasty towel machine is perpetually wet - sketch. - The ATM has been out of service more times than it has been working when I have been there. - The popcorn is stale, all the time. How is that possible? - The bar itself - the tables, floors, chairs - feel, well, sticky. Nothing feels clean. In my opinion, Rooters is a mix between a townie and dive bar. The first time I came here, I had already consumed several alcoholic beverages and then had their signature root beer (which is a drink made up of a combination of hard alcohol and soda). At that time, I was like "whoa, this is crazy good! AND there's free popcorn?! What could be better!?" Since then, I've come here a few more times when I've been fairly sober, and have experienced their root beer being pretty watered down/flat and have learned that a lot of bars in Fargo also have free popcorn. It can be fun to check this place out when bar hopping with a group of friends, but otherwise, it's not really my scene. If I could, I'd give this place 2.5 stars. read more

Stopped in here on Friday 08/19/22 Around midnight-1am. Upon entering the bar the bouncer was immediately rude but I still was polite and handed him over my ID because some bouncers tend to be stand-offish. He looked at me and then looked at my ID and asked for my date of birth. I told him my correct date of birth and he then said that he is going to scan my ID and call Fargo PD to verify it. I initially thought he was joking and I chuckled but I then realized he was serious and I said "okay". My friend and I looked at each other confused and he went to the side to let other people in the bar. He then came back to us and again stated that he's going to call Fargo PD. My friend then asked him what's the issue she's obviously not under 21 and that we needed to use the restroom. He then said aggressively "You can go use the restroom somewhere else". I'm unsure if I should feel flattered that he thought I was under 21 being that I'm nearly 30. I asked him if I can have my ID back and he then handed me back my ID. This is where I thought to myself that we were being discriminated against because we were 2 black women but he let the other people in that were white AND he didn't heckle them about their date of birth. He also NEVER "scanned" my ID like he said he would. If you really were concerned that I was underage why didn't you actually scan my ID and call Fargo PD like you said you would. And aren't you supposed to keep the fake ID if you're suspicious that it's a fake? I was very upset leaving and he appeared satisfied that he made me upset since he was smiling while we were leaving. I've never had this happen to me and I've visited local bars in the area with no issue. I'm not sure if he was bored that night looking for someone to cause trouble so he can have something to do or felt like discriminating and treating us unfairly but it was really uncalled for and it should be looked into. read more

Terrible; the lack of friendliness is quite epic. If they don't like your attitude, they will not hesitate to attempt to kick you out. The blackjack dealers and bartenders are absolutely miserable with their lives and thus, it's a way to take back power they never could enjoy in the real world. This makes the bar especially dangerous as when you have workers succumbing to a false sense of entitlement and couple that with a carnal need to project their underlying bitterness, the environment is especially toxic. I've heard rumors the bar will be going under soon - good riddance. One can only hope the workers will try and find enlightenment and grow from this failed experience. At this time, the bar nor its employees deserve to be in North Dakota. Let's all hope for a new and improved establishment which will take its place. read more

This is a great place to grab a few drinks as you're bar-hopping through downtown Fargo. Host to cheap, cheap drink specials and karaoke, you'll find yourself having a good time for sure. It's one of those places that's been there forever, but isn't sketchy or skeezy like a couple of other downtown dives. There are two bars, one on either side, and I don't think I've ever waited more than 45 seconds for a drink. They're very good bartenders at Rooters! read more

Would give zero stars if it were an option. Rooters doesn't accept military ID - a legal, federally issued form of identification and one that you actually have to earn through hard work and sacrifice. If you support the people who put their lives on the line for the rest of us, don't waste your time or money on this bar. I sincerely hope the management takes some time to educate their staff about acceptable forms of ID. As long as you refuse to serve our servicemembers, I hope the good people of Fargo refuse to patronize your establishment. read more
