On our last day in Minneapolis I happen to notice that we'd be able to attend this Sunday event. Farmers Markets in California all range in size so I didn't really know what to expect for this one - holy cow! It was huge and lots of different local things. They had Minnesota grown produce, handmade products, fresh flowers, baked good and so much more. I was introduced to Ty's Gingseng (https://www.tysginseng.com/) who grows and sells 6 year old ginseng powder - which is very high quality. I also bought relish from Red Ron's as well as some sausage links from another vendor. To be honest I probably could have spent at least 1.5 hours here if I wanted to really study all the booths and check everything out, but we had brunch plans and needed to depart within 45 mins. Being able to support the community and get such staple items made my heart full. It probably wasn't the wisest choice getting hot soup on a hot day but it was so delicious. There was live music, went into the walk in cooler to take a break from the sun and went back to it. Every vendor was very nice and welcoming, got some treats for my dogs, a freshly made slush coffee, and some hot dogs to end the walk around. I can't wait to come back to grab more fruits and veggies and flowers!

It was a chilly Spring Saturday when I visited, so not as crowded as I'd anticipate it would normally be on a Saturday around 11:45am. This is a laid back atmosphere with plenty of local vendors. I noticed baked goods, honey, vegetables, food vendors, and more. Pretty good variety. I also noticed that the list of vendors change as well. Although it was quite chilly (I should have brought my light winter jacket), it was nice to stroll the farmers market as it's one of my favorite things to do this time of year. I did notice on the sign while walking into the market dogs are not allowed, hours are 9am-1pm on Saturdays, and it's held rain or shine. Bonus, free street parking! I'm thinking I'll likely be back sometime later this summer.

Bouquets of flowers that are different each week, in-season fruits and vegetables, including uncommon options like Japanese eggplant and kohlrabi, small batch honey and maple syrup, jams and jerky, mushrooms, and tons of baked goods. There are also artists selling fishing lures, soaps, natural bug spray, woodworking, candles, jewelry and more. I love going in the morning and picking up breakfast there. For example, the vegan berry smoothie from Great Northern Microgreens I initially tried with some trepidation, but is now something I come back for (and I'm not the only one, because sometimes there is que of people waiting for smoothies). A croissant or quiche or muffin from one of the many bakeries is always a good option (and then I inevitably pick up dessert for later. A favorite treat of mine are the chocolate chip shortbread from Great Harvest Bread Co). Mogi Bagel has a huge following, and they are often sold out of most flavors by halfway through (see photo with a single bundle left at 11 am), so either pre-order your bagels for pick up, or get there early. The bagels are small, light and soft. They are easily compressible rather than being dense. The Cacio e Pepe flavor is pictured, and it was yummy lightly toasted with butter. Very flavorful. Speaking of yummy- Yummytizers has many great dips, but my favorite item are their veggie chips (not pictured because they had okra this week instead, but I was reassured the chips would be back next week). Delicious, colorful, and low-guilt! Most vendors give samples, so you can walk around the market trying bites and sips, then go back to get your favorites. There are also many vendors selling hot food, from spring rolls to pakora, to empanadas and breakfast sandwiches. No matter when you arrive, there will be something delicious to eat. Pro tip: There is a master gardener station, where you can ask for help identifying that random maybe-bush-maybe-tree growing in your yard, so take a photo beforehand. There are dining tables and chairs under a tent, so there is cover from rain and sun, as needed. And there is usually an activity that is kid-friendly (like a coloring station). There are no dogs allowed at this market, so leave your pets at home. Parking is possible either on the main street or on side streets and isn't that hard to find, as people are constantly coming and going. In addition to a good handful of produce vendors, you can find merchants and food vendors of all kinds, from clothing and crafts to jewelry and wellness products. It's a superb place to look for gifts for everyone on your list, especially if you want to support small local businesses of all stripes. Everyone is really nice, and I always enjoy learning more about their stories. The selection can vary week to week, so stop by throughout the season to meet everyone!

O NOES, the end of Farmer's Market season is upon us!…read more This has been a great way to get a break from the office over my lunch breaks. The highlight of my week during the summer months is my Thursday walk down Nicollet Mall to buy flowers, fruit, and tasty breads. Bring your cash, as I don't think there is a single vendor who accepts cards. If you forget, there are about a thousand ATMs in the Downtown area, so you've got no excuse. I'm a big fan of the street performers who take advantage of the huge crowds - this year, there was a gal with an accordion with her guitar/banjo strumming friend wowing the masses! I'll wait patiently for you until the spring thaw, Farmer's Market!

I feel like I have to walk by mini Cub Foods outlets to get to the genuine local fare - the N. Lyndale market has the same issue, but not to such a degree and there are signs above the vendors indicating they're resellers. I'll concede that these are still probably small businesses and that should trump big box stores, but when I think "farmer's market" I hone in on the word "farmer" and that's really what I'm going there for.

Midtown Global Market has been such a staple in my life. It does such a good job of having food options from so many cultures and parts of the world. The food is reasonably priced and the workers are all so kind and knowledgable. Beyond just food, there is a huge selection of art, groceries, clothing, and more. MGM has always felt like the ideal of what Minneapolis is and can be. I am sad to see a lot of booths closed right now. My heart aches for my neighbors and community. I hope (and know) that MGM can bounce back and continue to be a place of diverse community. Love MGM always.

Sad about Slice closing before I had to a chance to check them out. Still a few shops and produce vendors. I was born and raised for a bit in South Mpls and I find this area to be a bit challenging sometimes especially with them narrowing Lake Street down to single lanes. Makes me avoid the area as a whole. Definitely not MGM fault but generally unfortunate. You do have to pay for parking, ramp or metered. Or you could be lucky and find a spot around the neighborhood and walk over.

I'm a lookerrrr, so I loved taking my time to really look around. The store is bright, clean, and stocked. Good variety: groceries, deli and bakery items, personal care products, and even a small jewelry section tucked in. Prices felt fair....nothing that gave me sticker shock. Didn't have much interaction with staff aside from a quick (and quiet) checkout, but everyone seemed friendly from a distance. Parking was fine, which is always a bonus. I'm not from the Minneapolis area, so I wouldn't make a special trip just to come here, but if I'm nearby and need something, I'd happily stop in again.

I was in the area so I hoped that the Wedge co-op would have smoothies, and they did! I purchased a breakfast fuel smoothie that ended up being a little too nut buttery for me. This is my fault, remember I've been sick so I wasn't reading properly! The smoothie maker happily gave me some pineapple juice to add which helped. He declined my offer of payment for said juice. The real winner is the two bites of macaroni and cheese and macaroni and mushrooms from the hot bar that my stomach handled. It wasn't too salty or too greasy. Once I have my appetite back, I'll def come back for full portions! They have a nice quiet seating area that's always been clean when I visit. Parking is parking at the wedge. It's never as bad as anticipated.
