As the name implies Swings'n Things sells ... well ... ummm ... swings and ... ummm... things. The…read more"things" include amazing sheds, gazebos, yard furniture, kids playhouses and more. I have certainly admired the outside products but I go to Swings'n Things for the country gift shop and the furniture. The shop leans towards decorating items in the country & primitive styles although you can find stuff that would fit into most homes. There is some furniture in the shop itself but then they have another big building out back chock full of furniture as well. They have furniture and pictures, candles and rugs, curtains and mailboxes, flowers, birdhouses, lampshades, metal stars, pillows, (whew!) and much much more! The prices are usually reasonable. Sometimes you find a deal, sometimes you wonder if the owner just accidentally put the wrong tag on an item, 'cause the price just seems a bit out of touch with reality (not often). Swings'n Things can also be a great local place to pick up some gifts for those ladies on your shopping list. You are guaranteed to find items that aren't available in those big box stores. Happy shopping!

I really liked the shop very much (and the dogs were soooo super cute and friendly). There was not much there I could not find closer to me and a little less expensive. Although, Frannie got a Christmas tree (faux because fake sounds trashy :) on sale that was pretty neat. I hope she posts a picture because I thought that was worth the price. The furniture was very beautiful and there was walking stick I had my eye on and had it not been the holiday season (and I had more cash), I would be using it on my hikes right now. Maybe I need to trek back up there and buy it ....

Had loved this shop and all its creativity - had purchased a number of items at it that I reveled…read morein the fact that you wouldn't find them elsewhere. Each time my husband needed suggestions on gifts - I would remind him of "my favorite store" and he would head downtown to pick something out. One Christmas he decided to get me a gift card and put in my stocking. The gift card was enclosed in a sleeve that the store provided and had written inside "$100.00." It wasn't until about 10 months later I had remembered I had this and set off to pick something out. I decided on a beautiful Lazy Susan with "Exeter" embossed on it and couldn't wait to put it in the middle of my dining room table. As I went to check out - I handed Jeff my gift card which he swiped - I have no idea how their system works but after a couple of tries he says to me "well this is uncomfortable" to which I look at him confused as to "what" is uncomfortable? He tells me the card is not registering and that the gift cards at Christmas had been displayed at the register and would have been easily available for someone to "take"...It takes me a moment before I realize he actually just implied that it was probably "taken" (his "nice" way of saying stolen?)..and not "purchased" - I tell him my husband gave it to me as a gift, as he has purchased many other gifts there for me and wanted me to pick something out myself...I also tell him that I am sure my husband (a man of character, integrity, hard working, educated, father to 4) would not have stolen a gift card and that he most likely paid for it with his AMEX as he uses it for everything...things are a bit uncomfortable at this point and there are others in the store...he wraps my purchase up for me to take and asks me for my phone number in case the owner "has any questions" - At his point I'm ready to throw my bag at him, but decide I will not allow his passive aggressive accusation to keep me from having my purchase - bought and paid for with a gift card my husband had PURCHASED. A week later I receive a voicemail from him asking if I could find and give them a copy of the AMEX bill that my husband may have used - ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? At his point I am furious - and would have just ignored it all together but could not give this man the right to think this and why he never considered that fact that maybe the card was not activated correctly by whoever sold it to my husband...so I went on a hunt and had AMEX look back and send to us the bills from that Christmas .. and guess what??? A charge in the amount of $100.00 at In-Home in Exeter NH three days before Christmas - I will NEVER step foot in that place again - who treats their customers like that???
