He did not let us down as these places were great. I loved that there was someone in the reception and bar area 24/7. We don't have that here in the states and it made for a great experience. The highlight of the hotel, aside from Ivan, was the amazing breakfast we got each morning of our stay. So many fresh choices and the hot cocoa was fantastic. A great start to my morning every day. Midway through my stay, I experienced a devastating personal tragedy -- a death in my immediate family. In the midst of overwhelming grief and the need to urgently return home, I was told by the staff that everything would be taken care of. At the time was nice to know and allowed me to focus on getting home. I contacted Capital One Travel with whom I booked through, and they told me the hotel refused to refund the remaining two nights, and they are bound by "hotel policies". I contacted the hotel via email, hoping for understanding and compassion. Instead, it has been a week and I've yet to hear from them besides the email receipt for reimbursement of my prepaid breakfasts. At the time of checking out, I was informed multiple times by Ruby Marie's staff members that I would be reimbursed. Now, I've been met with silence. I understand that businesses have rules, but exceptional circumstances call for exceptional humanity. It's disheartening to see a hospitality business fail so miserably at being hospitable. Ruby Marie's stance has left me feeling unheard and unvalued as a customer. I wasn't asking for special treatment -- just basic human decency. If you're looking for a place that treats guests like people instead of transaction numbers and revenue generators, I recommend you look elsewhere. You never know when life might take an unexpected turn, and it's clear this hotel won't offer you an ounce of grace when it does.

For the discerning traveler wanting a truly local experience, it's hard to imagine there's a better hotel in Vienna. In fact the only thing missing at the Hollmann Beletage is a lively bar scene. This unique hotel's a little more like staying at a hip friend's flat and waking up to find a chef in the kitchen preparing you breakfast. If you require 24 front desk reception or room service it might not be the right pick. But if you're just fine letting yourself in and you don't mind getting dressed to eat, head over to the nearby Hollmann's Salon and have your drinks and dinner there. I'd definitely rate Hollmann Beletage right up there with some of my other favourite hotels - The Ace, New York; The Drake, Toronto; The Hoxton, London; The Soho House, Berlin; The Louis, Munich; CitizenM, Amsterdam - and look forward to sleeping with them again soon.

Every hotel I stay in now will be compared to the Hollmann Beletage. We found the place fine (look for an orange overhang), and were able to walk from the Wien Mitte train station after taking the CAT from the airport. Extremely convenient city location! The front desk staff was welcoming and helpful for anything we needed. They have limited hours, but I don't require any assistance overnight, so it was not an issue at all. The room was quite large, with a very comfortable king sized bed right in the middle. Separate WC, shower stall on the side, sink adjacent to the headboard, a desk, a couch, and a comfortable chair. We were here for 5 nights and 6 days, so we were very happy to have big closets to unpack and the couch to hang out and read on. The room was cleaned every day and the first day we were given Pez candies on our pillow. (Not sure if we should have gotten these every day, but we only got them one day/five). We were also provided slippers and robes, which are basically necessities for me in a hotel, especially in the winter. I prefer not to travel with my own robe, but as a long haired girl in a hotel room with limited towels, this amenity means a lot to me. We loved the breakfast each morning! In an intimate room on the top floor, a small but efficient team serve up truly delicious food. There was always a selection of rolls/croissants, meats and cheeses, jams, nutella, fruit salad, and granola and toppings. Additionally, one could order a made-to-order dish as well as any espresso drink or tea. All this was included in the price of the room, which we thought provided a great value. The Hollmann Beletage has a lot of personal, homey touches that truly made us feel comfortable. There were games on the 1st floor we could take down and play, as well as couches to lounge on (with throw blankets!) and magazines. In this area, there were also small sandwiches, delicious Kugelhopf (cake), and sparkling wine set out in the afternoon each day. I've never hung out in the common area of a hotel before, but we took advantage of this every afternoon happened to be in the hotel, and we were not the only ones! On the top floor, there was another common area, with tea and whiskey set up in the afternoon, a computer and printer available, and a lovely fireplace. Because we were here in December, there was also a Christmas tree!!! On Christmas morning, the staff placed packages for the guests in each room under the tree of their lovely homemade jam. Such a special touch! I would not only stay at his hotel whenever I am in Vienna, but I would plan my trip around the hotel's availability, as it is a boutique hotel with only 24 rooms. We stayed at the Penta Hotel in Vienna the night before we flew out, and it only confirmed my love and strong preference for the HB. Don't hesitate to book a room here, you will love it!

Solo woman traveler review:…read more Stayed for 3 nights for my first time in Vienna. After researching the location of various hotels, I chose NH Collection Wien Zentrum due to location and price. The quality of my hotel room, even the cheapest one, exceeded my expectations. My hotel room could be an apartment home back in California or New York! I had to walk all the way to the back of the hotel to use the elevator that accessed the tower where my room is (the nicer rooms have an elevator closer to the front). My room had 1 double bed (it was so large and comfy!) with a flat-screen TV facing it, a pristine bathroom, a living room space with a couch, coffee table, desk with ample lighting, giant closet, fridge, and door that led out onto a large balcony! Because I'm a tea addict, there were also complimentary tea bags, and the pot for hot water was put to good use. I loved lounging in my robe and slippers and using the amenities here. For each day you decline room service, they'll give you a coupon to get a free drink from the minibar. There's also water with lime slices in the lobby downstairs. The staff and front desk were so friendly and nice, and gave me advice for getting around and using public transportation. Location-wise, it has super-easy access to public transportation, and is in a safe touristy area with a lot of shops. If you're open to walking, it's about a 25-minute walk to the Hofburg Palace area and Leopold Museum. Loved staying here!

If I had any quibble, it would be to have a bar. I know there are places outside and we found some if those just fine, but its also nice to be able get a beverage in your own place. No ..... not the minibar, a real one Otherwise its a great hotel and a superb staff. I recommend it strongly if you're in town.

Louis R loves the proximity of this hotel to the Underground and to the city center (located in District 3). Perfect spot to stay in Vienna!…read more First of all, I want to highlight how wonderful and accommodating Ulla Spiess is! I may have been a bit of a difficult visitor after I wanted to swtich rooms. Ulla was accommodating and wonderful about everything. She's also quite nice and really friendly. I visited this spot recently and it really is a super spot to stay in Vienna. It is approximately 3 stops from the "center" of town (depending on what you consider the center) and it's really easy to navigate the trains. The location that the B&B is in is really quaint and there are local restaurants nearby as well, so you don't have to travel to the more touristy area. Ulla had a great restaurant recommendation for my first night there (delicious and inexpensive!). I stayed four nights and had a great time. I was in two rooms while I was there (my fault that I moved). Both rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable. The breakfast area is really charming and there is an area that has glass windows where you can feel like you are eating in the garden. The food is really great and fresh. Cheeses, meats, cereals, juices, pastries...I could go on and on. The made to order scrambled eggs are great, too! Coffee is delicious! Everyone is really helpful and they really make you feel like you are staying in their home. The B&B is expanding - I'm not sure when everything will be open, but there may be more room options soon. Thanks to Hotel Pension Spiess & Spiess Appartements for a great visit! I hope to be back!
