A package store that occupied the building with Elmer's closed and the bar was able to expand into that space, allowing for a much greater occupancy and less of a claustrophobic feeling on busy nights that hurt the bar pre-expansion. I went on a Thursday night, which is the Elmer's busiest night (I'm assuming since it's the unofficial start of the weekend for most CCSU students), and what would have been a crowded mess before was a lot more manageable with essentially twice the room as before. Thursday night specials included $3 Fireball shots (again - college bar), and $3 mini pitchers, which yielded roughly 4 glasses each. Very cheap and perfect for the cash-strapped college crowd. Since it is the only bar within walking distance of the CCSU campus that I know of, and located very close to the school's highway on/off ramps, Elmer's should never be hurting for business, at least while school is in session. Come winter or summer breaks, however, I could see the Elmer's being pretty dead, since most of the surrounding area is populated by the CCSU campus and students who live in the cheap apartments across the street.

We were offered a choice of sitting inside or outside, and since it was a beautiful day, we chose the patio with a great view of the golf course. Definitely a win! I started with a lemonade mojito, and wow! it was refreshing and strong. One drink in and I was already feeling it (in the best way). We shared the fried mozzarella medallions, which were crispy, cheesy, and honestly better than the usual mozzarella sticks. Their house-made marinara sauce was the perfect dip. It was rich and flavorful. I was in the mood for a grinder, so I went with the Philly cheesesteak. It was packed, delicious, and super satisfying. I've heard their pizza is a must-try, so I'm already planning my next visit to give that a shot. Service was great and our waitress was friendly, attentive, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout. Overall, a great vibe, tasty food, and strong drinks. Can't wait to come back!

You can see the golf course from many of the tables. The food was very good. We had the portabello sandwich and the California wrap. Both were nicely put together and attractively plated. There is also an extensive list of appetizers. The waitstaff seems well trained and I like the fact they help each other out. We've only been there for lunch so far so without trying some of the dinner entrees I'm reluctant to give it 5 stars at this point. But for lunch outside on a nice day it can't be beat!

Parking fills up on popular nights. They seemed very understaffed, with only 1-2 bartenders for a packed outdoor area. The kitchen did not seem to be able to keep up with the demand, though I do feel like we should've been warned that food would take an hour when ordering if it were that backed up. I went back to check on my food twice , the second time being at an hour and 15 minutes since I placed the order , with people who ordered after both getting their food first and finishing before I received mine at all. After I finally got my food I had to wait additionally to ask for condiments and waited 10 minutes after asking the bartender if I could close my card while others who came after me both ordered more drinks and paid first. The bartenders did offer us a drink on the house to try to help, though when I finally got my food it was 10pm. I probably would not order food again. They were also out of all ciders . This bar can be fun for its outside games but i would pickup food elsewhere first .

Unfortunately, the overall experience has gone downhill. During our most recent visit, the bartender called me names, and the owner's son -- who was clearly intoxicated -- was extremely rude. Mind you, we are very generous tippers and have been coming here for over 10 years. When we were cashing out we heard the bartender say "I'm going to charge her card for a 20% tip" It was disappointing and uncomfortable to say the least. It's also very concerning how often visibly intoxicated customers are overserved and then allowed to drive away. It doesn't feel safe or responsible. I won't be giving them my business again anytime soon, I highly suggest you order food to-go or find another restaurant.

We immediately felt welcomed as we walked in to the dimly lit but inviting ambiance of the bar. The drinks were made by India. She even inquired on how we prefer our drinks, more sweet or or strong, which was nice. Usually you just get what you get. She made sure we were happy with our drinks and she served our food as well. Very personable and driven to make sure we were pleased. The food was great! We got there in time for happy hour, my favorite!!! We ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, the best we've ever had! I actually don't care for them, but this chef changed my mind! We ordered a plethora of wings; Garlic Parmesan, Peach Habanero and Sweet Chili Thai Wings, all of which were big, not dry, and perfectly glazed. We also ordered the Goat Burgers that we had to bring home. The kids scored those! Plating was to perfection and definitely impressive. We will definitely be back with family and friends! Give them a try, you won be disappointed!

I don't have any outdoor pictures, honestly because it was too cold, and I just ran in, then I ran to my car. It's an all glass establishment, I saw my friend sitting in the middle booth from my car. The inside is spacious with a variety of seating options. The wood tops on the tables and countertops give it a modern feel. This place is known for wings, I'm not a fan. Additionally, they have tacos, burgers, nachos and other bar food. I selected Lou's Fig Melt. This was a tasty, sweet sandwich. It was filled with cheddar, goat cheese, bacon and fig jam. The chips on the side were very salty, I wish I substituted them for something else. I enjoyed the sandwich. My friend got the Duck Confit Eggrolls. These are a unique twist on eggrolls. They are stuffed with very tender duck meat and mac & cheese. It had dip on the side. This had a few textures going on. Crispy and cool on the outside, hot, cheesy and tender on the inside. At Hop Haus you will find, a fun and lively atmosphere and some unique dining options.

We assumed the place would be packed as we headed in to watch the 1:00 game. But it was dead. Which we were kind of relieved because we weren't worried about finding a table but also kind of perplexed because any other place that serves wings on a Sunday during football season is bursting at the seams. We walked in and stood at the hostess station waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes and didn't see an employee at all. My husband finally just walked over to the bar area and spotted someone around the corner. He asked if we could sit and she was somewhat agreeable to the idea. Thankfully our server McKenna was a delight. She was attentive and efficient. The French onion soup was fantastic. The wings were fine but not as good as I remember. They used to have a crisp to them. Now they are just kind of soggy. The kids liked their chicken tenders although I thought it looked like they had been in the fryer a tad too long. I could get past all that except I can't overlook the lack of management and the terrible bartender. We observed multiple people come in and stand at the hostess station for excessive amounts of time before anyone bothered to greet them. There were people at the bar with empty drinks and the bartender was standing around the corner on her phone while people waited. It was just a bad movie unfolding before our eyes. It was an experience for sure. This place used to be and could be amazing - they just need better hands on management and something to draw the crowd in on Sundays. We might come back if we see any chatter about new management, but until then it's probably off our rotation.
