Gousto - Another tasty meal success!!!

I can cook. I just don't have time to. The concept of a delivery service with pre-measured…read moreingredients sounded right up my street and after research, Gousto seemed to have the best range of recipes, so I ordered a trial box from them. Delivery was by Yodel (boo) but I was home at the time so got my parcel okay (yay). At first I was impressed - everything was packed well with ice packs and wool cool and there was even a free shopper bag in my box. It took longer to cook the first recipe than the card advised. The basa fish was a little bland, but it was meant to be one of lower calorie count options, so I forgave that. What I don't forgive is the expiry date. It should have been dated five or so days from delivery, instead it was two. And when I peeled back the label following a warning online, the expiry date was that same day. Needless to say, I threw out the second portion. Customer service is poor - no response from Facebook, Twitter or email (apart from a generic Tweet). Four days and counting (their policy is to reply in one) and I'm getting increasingly angry. If Gousto resolve this I will update the review but frankly, I don't see how they can put this right.

*online subscription service only*…read more I received a £20 gift voucher with my Amazon order for Gousto and decided to give it a try. The following day I visited the website which was easy to navigate round. For 2 meals ( each meal catered for 2 people ) the total came to £25.49 which I only had to put £5.49 which I thought was amazing value. I booked in my shopping for 6 days later ( nothing available after 5 ) My delivery came on time and I had a text from yodel to say it had arrived. Unpacking the shopping (see photos) I was impressed by how neatly it was packed and it had ice packs which could be used again. Plus the fruit and veg were packed in a white thick bag which was lined with sheep wool to keep to fresh and cold. Impressive !!! The two different recipes were nice however I was missing 2 Ingredients from each recipe (shame) I would recommend this service because the food was Fresh and the meals were different. However please be aware that this is a subscription service and once you order it signs you up for your next delivery and debits your account 10 days with only one email telling you. If you just want to try the service like I did go to the 'subscription' tab and unsubscribe after you have receive your first order to stop the system automatically reordering.

One day not too long ago, a flyer slid through our letter box. Normally, I toss these sorts of…read morethings directly in the bin but this flyer was different. It was nicely designed. Cute. Intriguing. I picked up the flyer and brought it inside the flat for further review. Upon further review (a quick scan of Papa Chef's website and a notation that Papa Chef does not exist on Yelp), I became more intrigued. Curious. Excited. I showed the flyer to my husband when he got home from work. He too was intrigued, curious, and excited. He said, "I'm in. Let's order one night this week." YES! Let's order one night this week! And we did and the food was absolutely divine and ordering from Papa Chef once a week has become a part of our routine. There are two things to note about Papa Chef. 1) Papa Chef is a food delivery company only - there isn't a physical restaurant. 2) There are a few rules to follow when ordering from Papa Chef which are atypical of standard takeaway establishments. These rules require a slight amount of planning but, I promise, your planning effort will be well worth it! Papa Chef posts his weekly menu on his website and Facebook page on Sundays. I recommend reviewing the weekly menu on Sunday and selecting your day(s) to order. Below are the rules for ordering. 1) The minimum order is for two people. 2) Orders must be placed between 8am and 3pm on the day of [your desired meal]. Ordering is super easy. 1) Call Papa Chef. 2) Provide some details such as address, number of meals, and time of delivery. 3) Anxiously await the piping hot delivery by Papa Chef himself at your designated time (between 5pm and 9pm) that evening. Happiness and a full belly are guaranteed. Papa Chef has filled a gap in our lives that we did not know existed. This gap comes forth when we don't want to physically go to a restaurant, we don't want to order cheap, greasy, and unhealthy takeaway, and we don't want to cook. Here exists the "I want to eat restaurant quality food in the comfort of my own living room while dressed in my pajamas" gap. Papa Chef to the rescue! Papa Chef has also changed my mindset of French cuisine. Papa Chef cooks up rustic, hearty meals accompanied by a delectable dessert and fresh baked bread. His food is entirely too delicious for words. Place your order now - you won't regret it.

I have used other food delivery services before but they have never met the top standards of Ocado. Ocado delivers good high quality food and in a hours time slot which is great so you are not waiting around for hours and hours. Like all food delivery services has to be added at least a day before but if you want to secure a certain time slot and day then best to put your order in few days or more before you can always add on more food products etc in the meantime after placing order as long as you do all amendments 24 hours before your delivery. Deliveries are always in the required 1 hour slot that I have chosen and the delivery drivers always happy polite and helpful. If you have changed your mind on a item or not happy with a item that has been delivered and you notice before the delivery driver goes then hand back to him and he will deduct the amount from your shopping. If he has gone and it is a product that is faulty or damaged that you are not pleased with then phone customer services and they will refund either the whole or part of the product back depending what the issue is. I also find it easy to see special offers on their website and what products are in season. Only reason I have given 4 stars is because I have had quite a few issues with bruised apples (so I end up giving to the birds) and the steak not being enough to cover 2 people only 1 person. However this has not put me off and so I highly recommend Ocado to anyone a time saver.

The overall store isn't as large, or simply as nice as other Waitrose branches, including the one inside the other Westfield mall in Stratford City. The staff didn't seem too friendly or helpful either, other than one member of staff, who I can only presume is the Supervisor, or perhaps the only one with real training and experience. The overall selection in-store either for items such as newspapers and free-from wasn't great, highlighting just two of the many areas where the items stocked or simply the quantity of items stocked were an issue. They did have similar Waitrose offers here for loyalty card members for any store, even those I'm used to in Manchester, such as through getting the free hot drink if you make a purchase and a free newspaper when spending over £10, but still the issue that arose for me was the lack of places to pick up that free beverage, with the only obvious place being the cafe which had such a large queue, hence there should be more options and places to pick this up. The store seemed slightly inconvenient getting in and out of without the lift, and the staff were not aware it wasn't working which is frustrating, so improving the accessibility of this store is a must, as well as selection and service in certain areas, the overall layout of the store also seemed to be curved, angled, hard to navigate so sadly for me I feel this Waitrose store deserves a single one-star rating.

Waitrose is one of the anchor stores of the new Westfield shopping development, and has delivered…read morewhat, even for this high-end company, is an impressive outlet. The store is relatively large (25,000 sq ft, so I'm told) for an in-town branch, and - in addition to the normal product range - features a myriad of fresh food counters, including ones for meat and fish, a bakery, a delicatessen, and salad, cheese and olive counters. One novel feature is a stand-up eating area with high tables where you can buy fresh products and eat them in-store, New York style. I have to say eating while standing up is not my cup of tea, so we'll have to see if others catch on to this. I'm also rather puzzled as to why they have included a supermarket in such a large shopping centre: I can't see anyone wanting to go fashion shopping weighed down with groceries, nor have the energy to go to the supermarket once they've walked around the miles of gleaming corridors above. On my visit, Waitrose seemed distinctly quiet (on a Friday afternoon), but maybe it's just a matter of time. The only downer is its location, which can be a little tricky to find unless you arrive from the Central/Overground stations: basically, it's in the basement below the House of Fraser store at the very south east corner of the site. The store also provides a packing, carry-to-car and delivery service (not to be sniffed at if you've seen the size of Westfield's car park).
