I needed a few extra nights in Madrid after my tour ended and I booked this hotel based on a recommendation from a friend who had stayed before with her fiance. She told me it was close to everything and very cutely decorated.
I would have to agree, it is close to everything, only a few hundred yards from Puerta del Sol and a few metro stations, so it does make it very easy to get around to all the spots in Madrid and beyond. And it was cutely decorated.
I had to check out of the hotel that I was in for my tour at noon and then try to check in here before their check in time. They were extremely helpful. Took my luggage and told me to come back in about an hour. Perfect I thought I would go ahead and find a place for lunch and just hang around in the area while I waited. When I arrived back, I was told I got a free upgrade. Yay! So I did not originally book the lofted room, but that's what I was upgraded to.
The stairs to the loft were quite steep. There was a king (?) size bed with two end tables, a desk with chair, tv mounted on the wall and a small closet. Also a mini bar. There was no way I was going to be dragging my 50 LBS bag up there, so it just hung out under the stairs in the "living room" area.
The living room area had a couch, a few tables, and a small dining table with 4 chairs. There was also closet along the back wall with a safe.
The bathroom is small, but has the essentials, shower, sink, bidet and toilet. The toilet was squeezed in between the shower and the wall, so I could see how someone a bit bigger might not quite fit. Luckily the shower door does open on that side, so there is at least that option, but it could be quite tricky for some.
There is also an optional kitchen. I couldn't get into it because it was locked and there was a sign on the door saying that I would have to ask the front desk for the key to use the kitchen. I'm sure there is a fee.
Because it's basically in the city center, there is definitely the lively sounds of people walking around and trash pick up and road clean up and the church bells ringing at 630am, but it is also tucked inbetween other residential areas, so even though it's central, it's not like Time Square in NYC busy. close the curtains and turn off the lights, and it's pretty dark and quiet for the most part.
Absolutely loved my hotel room. I would definitely book again should I happen to be back in Madrid. I would definitely be willing to book another Room Mate hotel in a different city if it were available. read more
