I joined this gym about three weeks ago. It is pretty much at the halfway point between home and…read morework -- about four blocks in either direction -- so it is super convenient. It is small and clean, the staff is friendly, and the locker rooms are very nicely stocked -- I think the fact that it is also a hotel gym helps in this regard. I have never been there when I couldn't get on a machine or felt like there were too many people (oversold memberships, like some gyms do). This also makes me feel less self-conscious because there aren't a ton of people around, and if there are half of them are from out of town and I will never see them again anyway! I have started doing personal training with Emanuel and after two sessions am confident that this man is going to whip me into shape! He really knows his stuff and I feel like he is genuinely interested in helping me reach my goals. I haven't taken any of the group classes yet. There are not very many to choose from, so if that is what you are mostly interested in, this probably wouldn't be the gym for you. I am looking forward to the pool opening next week -- I really like the fact that it is also the hotel pool, which means you can order food and drink poolside! On Friday nights supposedly they set up a walk-up bar, which sounds fun to me, too. :-) I have a feeling we are in for a super hot summer and I love that I will have a private pool just four blocks away. As a member, I also have access to a huge grassy area for laying out, picnicking, reading, etc. It would be a great place to watch the fireworks. If you live in the neighborhood I totally recommend this place.

The baby pool is broken as well - for at least 2 years according to someone who works there. I'd consider trying it out again if they fix the facilities but as of now, we will not be back.

The staff plays favorites, letting the swim team stay twenty to thirty minutes past their reservation time because the coach (and this is a direct quote from a staff member) is 'also an employee.' When we pointed out this approach poses an undue burden on the taxpaying public, which should have equal access to the pool during the hours the pool is open, we were mocked and asked to leave. My wife is six months pregnant and we are in the midst of a global pandemic. The staff's solution? Swim in a lane with six other people while the swim team monopolizes the other three. Reading through other comments, I see most negative reviews have to do with maintenance and hygiene issues. And yes, the locker room is filthy and the swimsuit wringer is broken. However, none of this would matter to me (although it is puzzling) if it weren't for the injustice and nepotism we experienced today as well as the complete lack of empathy by staff members. If the team is scheduled to get out at a certain time, that's what should happen. Instead, we experienced the kind of nepotism more congruent with an autocratic country than the U.S. I'm truly horrified and disappointed and will be complaining to DPR immediately.

They refreshed the lounge cushions and pool towns this year, which added to the luxurious vibe. I enjoy it most during the weekdays when it's remote workers, lap swimmers like me, and avid readers. There is only one "time slot" and it's all day. On the weekends, you need to arrive at least 15 min before your pool time (either 10am or 2:30pm), and snag loungers if you're GA. This year I discovered that if you have more than one guest, you have to book a sun lounger (the square poolside cushions) or daybeds, which both have a food and drink minimum (the lounger is $75 but they're not too strict). Food-wise I'd choose cobb salad, shrimp tacos (a bit spicy), or their guac.

What I do know is that I was in DESPERATE need of some pooltime and sunshine, complete with cocktails and the Penthouse Pool Club more than delivered. Yep, it's COVID times. So, you gotta make a reservation, they'll take your temperature, you have to wear your mask when not at your spot or in the water, and you're not supposed to mingle with other groups. Makes for a less fun pool party, but beggars can't be choosers. We had a cabana that fit 4 of us nicely, and our server was both friendly and fast. We were drinking pretty heavily and he was always there to keep our little bucket full of canned cocktails. I miss having access to a full bar, but they're doing what they can under the circumstances. The pool is nice. The scene is very gay and very pretty. The music was good, if a bit quiet. This could very well be my happy place. Things like this just don't exist in the PNW, and it was a real treat to visit.

The instructors for the APS swim classes really hit or miss compared to the county classes. We loved the first lady instructor, she always started classes on time and ended on time, knew what she wanted to do in the class, and had her songs with swimming movements ready. Last 2 sessions were with a gentleman instructor (who says he's been teaching swimming at APS for 15+ years) as the main instructor and recently he's been training this other lady and it's been so bad: 1. classes don't start on time half the time (one time started going around checking the kids in at the time class was supposed to start and that took 10 minutes, another time it's already time to start the class but instructor was standing around chatting for 5 minutes) and sometimes runs out of things to do class ended 5 min early 2. runs out of things to do in the class or don't know what songs to sing as we practice swimming movements and they start singing random songs or ask all the parents what song would you like to sing !!?? Could you do a little bit of prep beforehand or bring a cheatsheet into the pool so you know what to do next. Maybe it's the toddler class that's bad because kids are young... won't be doing the toddler class again here unless we get the first instructor back. Will wait for the class for older kids or go to county classes.
