This is the best short/long course pool in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area. I have been a…read morecompetitive swimmer all my life and am impressed with the pool layout, aquatics programs and athletes training here. Wilson Pool does have its positives and negatives. Positives: -The pool and locker room facility is clean - They alternate between 25 and 50 meter lanes every other day - They facility provides kick boards, flippers and other swim gear for free - There are very dedicated athletes here - The pool is free for DC residents - There is a warm up/cool down pool and hot tub to soothe muscles Negatives: - The pool is always very crowded unless it is opening or closing time - Staff is available but not very friendly - There have been instances of people getting belongs stolen so please lock up your stuff - They need more programs and co-ed swim groups so people can meet other swimmers

Great facility, but somehow every lane is always closed due to events or understaffing. So you…read moreusually have to share your lane with someone else which I wouldn't mind, but it does make my workouts harder to focus on when I'm constantly trying not to bump into someone or the divider. They also can't seem to figure out how to process my membership on site without me calling a customer service line first, even though I was told by other staff it would be processed by now, so they make me prove I'm a resident every time.

We were told heater…read moreon the main pool has been broken for 2 months when we asked why it was so cold (I'm talking ICE BATH COLD). The baby pool is broken as well - for at least 2 years according to someone who works there. I'd consider trying it out again if they fix the facilities but as of now, we will not be back.

My wife and I have never experienced such incompetence at a public pool and we've been swimming at…read morepublic pools for twenty years. The staff plays favorites, letting the swim team stay twenty to thirty minutes past their reservation time because the coach (and this is a direct quote from a staff member) is 'also an employee.' When we pointed out this approach poses an undue burden on the taxpaying public, which should have equal access to the pool during the hours the pool is open, we were mocked and asked to leave. My wife is six months pregnant and we are in the midst of a global pandemic. The staff's solution? Swim in a lane with six other people while the swim team monopolizes the other three. Reading through other comments, I see most negative reviews have to do with maintenance and hygiene issues. And yes, the locker room is filthy and the swimsuit wringer is broken. However, none of this would matter to me (although it is puzzling) if it weren't for the injustice and nepotism we experienced today as well as the complete lack of empathy by staff members. If the team is scheduled to get out at a certain time, that's what should happen. Instead, we experienced the kind of nepotism more congruent with an autocratic country than the U.S. I'm truly horrified and disappointed and will be complaining to DPR immediately.

The instructors for the APS swim classes really hit or miss compared to the county classes. We loved the first lady instructor, she always started classes on time and ended on time, knew what she wanted to do in the class, and had her songs with swimming movements ready. Last 2 sessions were with a gentleman instructor (who says he's been teaching swimming at APS for 15+ years) as the main instructor and recently he's been training this other lady and it's been so bad: 1. classes don't start on time half the time (one time started going around checking the kids in at the time class was supposed to start and that took 10 minutes, another time it's already time to start the class but instructor was standing around chatting for 5 minutes) and sometimes runs out of things to do class ended 5 min early 2. runs out of things to do in the class or don't know what songs to sing as we practice swimming movements and they start singing random songs or ask all the parents what song would you like to sing !!?? Could you do a little bit of prep beforehand or bring a cheatsheet into the pool so you know what to do next. Maybe it's the toddler class that's bad because kids are young... won't be doing the toddler class again here unless we get the first instructor back. Will wait for the class for older kids or go to county classes.
