The aftermath was our AC unit was knocked out of phase and just sounded terrible! We called DeAngelis as we were unaware of the power problems and they were amazing sending out very professional and courteous techs to investigate. They said they would 'stay' until we figure this out even though, as I said, the issue actually was power/grid related. The front office staff (Angela) responded immediately and was beyond cordial. The owner (Chris) also called to try to help fix an issue which turned out to be nothing to do with the unit after all. But what a mess for 3 days..... we were all stumped. This is the type of company you want to do business with. They stick with you and want nothing more than to fix the issue. And they never even charged us for two visits. I can't say enough about them and their customer service - an art that is lost on so many contractors these days! Use them. You won't regret it.

The issue was a compressor motor that would not start. This was their quote: "During my evaluation I observed a failed start capacitor, both fuses in the electrical disconnect blown and a faulty control board. Once these components are replaced we will be able to continue our evaluation. There is no guarantee that the diagnosis is finished after these parts are replaced since we cannot check motor operation or refrigerant pressures at this time." Cap Compressor Saver CSRU-1 (1.5 to 3 ton) $341 Replace Buss Cartridge Fuse 25 Amp (2) $170 Service Department Matrix Repair $300 Service Department Matrix Repair $800 This work was a female relative and I advised her that this was BS. I'm a tech but not AC tech and I knew this was trash. Two other non-AC techs had the same opinion and we all point to the capacitor. In the end the fuses are easy to check and they were not bad. Replacement fuses cost $5 each. A replacement capacitor is $8. We repaired it at the cost of $8 because the capacitor was the only bad part. PK Wadsworth was attempting to sell her a new AC system and that could have been their ultimate goal. If not they were trying to outrageously overcharge for parts and replace things (or say they replaced) that were not defective. How these folks got an A+ rating I will never know. My advise is to steer clear of this company.

So when you're looking for an HVAC contractor/ repair facility, what's your ideal?…read moreMine is one who is honest, has the customer's well-being driving his recommendations, is conscientious, fairly priced, and "owns" his work. I don't think I can say enough positive about this firm or it's owner. My whole house air conditioner's compressor died. He said he could replace the compressor, but this is the last year parts would be available for this unit, ( it's gotta be 25 years old.). It would cost about half of what a new unit would cost, and any future repairs would likely not be possible. We went with the new unit. The next day my house and yard were swarming with HVAC guys. One team replacing the unit outside, the other in the attic removing the old coil, evaporator pan, etc. and replacing them with new. There were, at various times during the day, two company trucks and three private cars parked in our drive, all engaged in the job. Finished in one day, a technician dropped by the next day to check out how things looked in the attic, ( I found out later it had to do with the drainage of the pan and such.) Unfortunately as we had just experienced a huge rare August cool-down, we hadn't turned on the air as of the time of checkup. The next day the heat returned the air went on and all was well until my wife went through the room below the newly replaced coil and pan, and the ceiling was dripping water and sloughing the plaster topcoat from the ceiling. The evaporator pan was not draining properly. Despite the fact that it was about 8:20PM, the contractor raced over, rigged a temporary fix to drain the water outside, and said he would take care of the cost of the repairs. The drywall guys are scheduled to come Monday. So this contractor knew enough to do a drainage check the day after the install, but as luck would have it, the check took place before the problem could have appeared, due to our not having turned on the air, and rather than trying to turn the "finger of blame" towards me for whatever reason, he was appreciative that I wasn't yelling and screaming about the damage, and just said he'd cover the expense. Kudos to him and his upbringing for being honest, forthright and acting with integrity regarding the entire affair. He's definitely my "go to" guy!

I called the big name, highly advertised, HVAC company for a tune up and they told me not to "waste money on any more maintenance, because it's on borrowed time." That company quoted me a price to replace it and that forced me to shop around... and I'm so glad I did. A buddy of mine gave me Bobby's (owner/operator of East End) number. I called him out to my home to get a quote for a new furnace and ac unit. He was on time, polite, and genuine. He took a genuine interest in our life and our needs (became obvious on his next visit 5mths later when he came to upkeep our old unit we almost replaced. He asked for updates on life events we shared on his last visit ) He looked at our set up and was very reassuring as we had more life out of our furnace! He didn't scare us into a sale, he only sold us on himself, his work, and his price ($1k+ cheaper than his competitors) Overall, I recommend East End and Bobby very highly. When I asked him to check if there was a leak of gas from my furnace, he said everything is in good working condition and there are multiple safety measures to prevent any leak. But when I asked how to be sure there is no leak, he said that is a second step to measure with a meter and it will cost another $89. In any event, I didn't find him to be friendly and helpful to rule out my initial complaint. I did not opt for the second step. No second step for diagnosis was informed by Sal earlier. That said, I guess I must give the business a 5-star rating based on the professional scheduling and followup of the appointment. "One swallow doesn't make a summer' or "one bad day" is not a true reflection of the company. I am changing my rating at Sal's text request personally. It's only changed because I can understand Sal's concern as a businessman. He offered me free service in return but I declined it again. He got me wrong completely. My changed rating is only for the professionalism shown by the reception desk and their follow-up. It is not for the changed picture Ron gave that I asked if Ron wanted me to wear a mask. Who would ask that in one's own house? I was wearing my mask thoughout the encounter. As a 65+ year-old, I must be cautious. I don't need a service person's permission to wear a mask inside my house. Unbelievable. But I thought I must clarify to Sal's reply. Thanks Sal for your prompt response. But, isn't that a courteous way to ask ? - "You might want to wear a mask". He saw I was wearing one and he was entering my residence. Yes, I could have insisted but I think that is rude. Secondly, my complaint was "gas leak" and hence, the request to send someone from your company. I am not disputing any diagnosis. I just placed it before you, so it doesn't happen again.. I don't want any money back either. Service was rendered and I accept your company's policy. However, I thank the reception desk for immediately scheduling the appointment the same day. It was highly professional, including the update they followed up with. I commend you for that. Anyways, thanks for your immediate response. Much appreciated

Their people are…read moreprofessional and helpful, and they went out of their way to provide fantastic service when I was in a bit of a crunch. I'd give them 6 out of 5 stars if I could. Buying a HVAC system is complicated and expensive, but at least I had a little time to do some research. Here is what I learned: 12 years ago we bought a new HVAC system from a different dealer from the Kent area who maintained our previous furnace. At that time, I didn't know a good HVAC installation from a bad one, nor was I wise enough to do any research. Therefore, we bought what they told us was a "great" new Amana unit (although it proved to be somewhat of a lemon). This time around, I DID do a bunch of research when I learned that the Amana furnace's secondary heat exchanger was beginning to plug up and was failing. All articles I read stressed the same thing: the installation is even more important than the equipment you buy. A poor installation will shorten the lifespan of any HVAC unit, regardless of brand or price. Even before I found out that the not-so-old Amana unit was dying, I had discovered that its installation was done poorly. During a recent renovation, we found that there was a lot of air leaking behind the furnace/AC unit because the installers hadn't sealed the ductwork well. Also, the company that sold us that unit hadn't installed an exterior fresh air intake for the furnace. Later on, even their own service guys told us that their installers should have done so, and it was contributing to some problems. The point I'm making here is that the installation of my previous HVAC system wasn't done well, and after 12 years, the furnace was dying. Now for the good news: A few of my neighbors recommended Carrier: top quality equipment, but expensive. Fortunately I learned that Bryant and Carrier are made by the same company, and that most Bryant systems are IDENTICAL to the Carrier brand, but at lower price; just different nameplates. I even found a website that listed Carrier and Bryant furnace and A/C model numbers side-by-side so you can compare apples to apples. When I looked to see if there was a Bryant dealer anywhere nearby, I found Choice Aire right here in my neighborhood of Ellet. I stopped in at their office and got some excellent information from Jennifer (who's very knowledgeable) at the front desk. As we chatted, owner Eric Morrow returned to the building & offered to come over right then to look at my situation. Eric gave me a VERY good price, and squeezed my installation into their schedule as soon as possible. Also, he pointed out all the installation errors in my old system, and told me exactly how they would correct them. And they DID. Choice Aire saved me a bunch of money on the SAME system I had been planning to buy from Carrier. More importantly, their installation was excellent. They also included a flush mount vent that finishes off those pipes outside... something nobody else even offered. Normally you just get ugly, exposed PVC pipes sticking out of the house. Another important consideration... their sheetmetal work is done beautifully- neat, sealed well, and sturdy; they even sealed existing ductwork. The sheetmetal was cut with precision on a plasma cutter in their shop. In fact- my old company's salesman also gave me a quote to replace the Amana, and bragged that they can do all their sheetmetal work right in the truck with no need to wait for it. Well, their previous worked looked exactly like that- cheap, quickly done, with large flat surfaces that tended to vibrate and boom. Choice Aire did a much more professional job, and I appreciated that Eric himself came to give the installation a final inspection. Furthermore, we are more than happy with the efficient and quiet Bryant furnace.
