Ronin Training Center is impressive! It is the largest MMA and Fitness gym in Columbus Ohio offering MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling,, Judo, and my favorite Krav Maga!! There are a number of top ranked competitors that train here. I was involved in a number of Martial Arts systems up into my 30s but I hadn't practiced anything since. Now being in my 50s I got the itch to get involved again but I wasn't interested in competing again. I wanted a more practical self-defense system to learn. I chose Krav Maga and I'm so glad I did. I have learned so much and had so much fun. Casey Boyer is an excellent instructor and the Krav team is a very friendly and fun group. The Krav Maga classes have really hit the spot! So disappointed-my daughter loved her classes but parking, accountability & customer service is a 0/5 stars. Tonight we were parked in and instead of unloading my 3 young children I elected to call the number listed on the website. I called 6 times to no answer. The folks in the gym ended up helping me get it resolved-however I got a return call from the gym about an hour later. Where the gentleman on the phone was condescending and dismissive stating that having the phone not ring to the front desk has "worded for 10 years now". Parents with young kids I would find another gym to take your family. One that has better parking and better time for class offerings. read more

This was my first time here and I was actually here attending a self defense class that was being held. The instructors were very thorough with explaining the different moves and tactics that we can use to get out of unsafe situation's. It has been a while since I have taken a self-defense class so this was a great opportunity to experience a refresher. I am definitely looking forward to coming back as I've been wanting to get into martial arts. I do have some boxing experience that I want to continue to enhance as well as trying something new such as jujitsu. They do have a free one week trial so I am planning to take advantage of that and try out the different art forms as they teach several. read more

Came in for boxing but they make you train on the mat with no shoes on. My observation after a month is that they want you to either do Jiu-jitsu or Muay Thai. Everything else is secondary. read more

Definitely take advantage of the week long free trial because the vibe varies from class to class. My first class yesterday was a Krav Maga class. The instructor was very welcoming and the space seemed supportive - will definitely be going back to that one. The demographics were very diverse with both men and women, young and old. All body types. All friendly. Today I attended a "Beginners MMA Class" which was definitely not for beginners and didn't at all have the same welcoming feeling as yesterday's class. The entirety of this class was very physically fit young men and the instructor did not acknowledge me until I went up to him to make sure I was in the right place. There was not a single woman and it's not hard to see why they're not interested. 5 minutes in and the instructor tells us to do forward and backward rolls across the entire room... with no demonstration or instruction whatsoever. Moving like that is dangerous when done improperly. I'm already feeling uncomfortable in this class as a visibly LGBT person... Needless to say I walked out very shortly after it began. This place could benefit from some consistency across classes... and could achieve that by demonstrating it's a safe environment for marginalized bodies. Krav Maga aside, it hasn't done that for me yet. I'll be coming back, but only because there isn't a self proclaimed safe training space for LGBT folks yet. read more

Bottom line: Great place to train, awesome trainers, and great value. Pros: - Jiu-Jitsu: Coaches are active athletes, winning major competitions, and humble. I recommend taking morning or afternoon class for complete beginners. - Ronit Fit: Morning classes led by Laurah will reveal that what you call "workout" all these times is a lie. Take the Friday session focused on glutes and you'll hate your toilet seat for the next 3 days. Cry during the session and Laurah will mop your tears from the floor. Recommended. - Boxing: Not sure what to say besides I enjoyed the sessions. No sparring except Friday (I think it is advance level only now) so don't worry, you can keep your good looking face. Just keep your gut strong for those body shots session. Cons: - Need some upgrade: the bathroom and the mat for boxing/muay-thai definitely nice if upgraded. - Crowded evening: Evening classes are packed (ok, a sign of a good program) and parking can be hard to find in the evening. I hope Ronin can keep growing and open up a branch near my place! read more

The only reason I gave this business as many stars as I did is because of Casey and Southpaw Krav Maga classes. Everything else about this business is a disappointment. There was absolutely no one to greet me on my first day or give me any information I just sat around awkwardly and I can see how that would be intimidating for a lot of people and cause them not to return. As someone who has been a member at a similar gym for multiple years I can tell this gym is very uninterested in bringing in people who aren't "hardcore" like them or at least that's the vibe every other class except Krav Maga gave me. The gym facilities aren't great which is understandable but the bathroom are DISGUSTING. There was like zero info on how to get access to a locker, not like they looked like they worked anyway. The whole process of getting a trial membership and signing up was very unprofessional. Also I find it ridiculous that they have a 30 day cancellation requirement, so if you realize or decide you need cancel you still have to pay for another month of classes regardless of if you can actually go to them or not. PLUS a 40% of remaining pro-rate membership cancellation fee, even though I was told there was no cancellation fee when I signed up. The cost of membership is ridiculous, 100$ just to take one type of class?! Granted they have 20% off for students and military, but still 80$ is still too much for someone with a busy life who can't make it to every single class. If you can make it to every single class then maybe it's worth it. Also good luck finding parking, the parking lot it tiny and you have to risk parking on the street or somewhere else. Honestly, it's just not worth it. read more

The coaches are knowledgable, capable, approachable, humble and genuine. They always make their way around the classes to offer extra guidance when needed. Signed my 2 youngest boy's up for BJJ first. The free week option allowed them both to experience the classes, coaches and other students without the pressure of a commitment. The other staff members are always extremely courteous. The facility is clean and professionally run. Very family friendly. Watching my boys learning and thoroughly enjoying themselves, I decided to join myself. All classes are professionally structured and managed. It has been my experience thus far, that the experienced students in the adult classes are very quick to help out, and for someone who knows less than nothing, it sure does eliminate the awkwardness that goes with trying to fold clothes with someone in them. I've been training at Ronin for a few months now and I'm absolutely addicted to it. I'm studying BJJ and Muay Thai, and I occasionally get a workout in there. I've also started my older son in kids BJJ. I wanted to wait a few months before I reviewed. Below are a few high points of my experience at Ronin in no particular rank order. 1. Family atmosphere. Everyone there is welcoming and warm. I've been utterly shocked at how helpful and friendly everyone is, from the staff and trainers, to my fellow students. It's a tough thing to walk into a legit fight gym for the first time. It's also extremely humbling. My experience at Ronin so far in just a few short months has already positively impacted my mental health and the way I approach life. It's quite unbelievable. 2. World class instruction. BJJ is where I spend the most time. How truly lucky is Columbus, OH to have Vitor Oliveira, a world champion Jiu Jitsu competitor, teaching here? Vitor is a machine on the mats in competition and has dedicated his life to Jiu Jitsu. But he's also a fantastic coach. However, the culture he has instilled is what stands out to me the most. A fish out of water if what it feels like the first class you attend, but every single student of his has been welcoming to me, non-judgemental and extremely helpful. Everyone is truly interested in each others progression. Laurah Hallock, who manages the gym, is the only female black belt in Columbus, and she is also a fantastic instructor. For women considering BJJ, they have a womens only class once per week and the other classes are coed. BJJ is the ultimate equalizer to strength, so women considering self defense should consider it first and foremost before anything else. For Muay Thai, Aaron Bogg's class has the same feel. Aaron has a knack for instruction and he's also serious about his students progress. He made me feel comfortable within 10 seconds of my first class. I'd love to have more time for Muay Thai. The same culture is prevalent in his class. 3. Kids BJJ. I've started my older son in kids BJJ and the instruction and class format for the little ones is perfect. If you want your kids to learn discipline, patience, impulse control and be able to truly defend themselves in this crazy world, look no further than Jiu Jitsu. They sort the class by age group, so the little ones don't get mixed in with the bigger kids. Sarah, Des, Sal and others do a great job keeping it fun with games and drills that develop important skills and knowledge at the same time. They're putting in showers right now which is a bonus. They also have a weight training area, a boxing ring and an MMA ring. Boxing classes, Judo, Yoga, Kids Wrestling and a Ronin Fit class are also taught at Ronin. Theses people are greedy and over priced.I was looking for a reasonably priced martial arts and workout classes to fill my time before work in the morning .
