There's nothing
more complicated than walking around with a group of people from 5 different
nations and looking for a suitable restaurant for dinner. Everybody wants
something else, so there's a real danger that you end up in a place fitting the
smallest common denominator, making nobody totally unhappy but also nobody
happy. Rondinella is a likely place for such a group. They have everything,
from Brazilian steaks to seafood to pizzas, normally you would not go there but
under these circumstances you do. In particular when you are invited, you don't
want to be a hassle. OK, Rondinella is at the Copacabana, nice ocean breeze,
that's likeable. Unbeatable location, and the cooks normally know that. As you
look at the menu, you see giant pizzas and steaks being served to the neighbors
and you wonder, there's no page menus for two but can that be a normal
portion? You decide
to defy your doubts, be heroic and courageous, and order a good Brazilian
steak. Argentinean wine, very delicious everybody keeps warning you of
Brazilian wine, so nobody wants to try. When the dinner is served, all your
fears come true. A friendly smiling and beautiful waiter serves you an enormous
dish. You could feed three people with such a giant steak. Does beef mean dinosaur
in Brazilian Portuguese? The fish for your neighbor is equally gigantic.
Impossible to consume. But the
most important question is well, the taste. It was a perfectly positive
surprise. Smooth and intensive taste of the beef, wonderful vegetables, and it
tastes so well that you end up eating almost everything even if you never believed
you can eat such piles of food. The conversation however soon was less
energetic than expected, everybody was so busy with eating and digesting that
we decided all our arguments are actually not so important.
And we all love
