I've only been here twice, and both times were with Junior League of Tucson. The first time was with the Chef for a day program, the program is for organizations to come and and make meals for the residents of the house, since a lot of the families who stay there are going through some tough/difficult medical issues, and are here in Tucson, to get the best care. The 2nd visit was today, we took the tour of the house and got see how some of the families live. I must say they don't have to bad. I would love to stay there, but one I am not in need of medical help, and two you have to at least live 30 miles away from the MCH to qualify. boo..... They are doing a good service for the community I will continue to support their efforts!

Did you know that each Ronald McDonald House is essentially self funded? sure, they each get support locally, but the majority of their funds come from their super hard efforts to raise money in their own community. The Ronald McDonald House chapter in Tucson raises the bar big time. The facility is beautiful, clean and the staff is incredibly genuine. The executive team is equally humble and they pour their hearts into this organization. After receiving a tour and seeing how much they offer to families going through an incredibly difficult time and are often displaced and separated from their spouses while their children are receiving medical treatment. It's so worth while to donate to the house or volunteer to cook meal for the families. I have yet to volunteer a meal and I can wait. This organization is truly amazing- they are providing suffering families the comfort of having some where to sleep, a support system and community to come home to after long days in the hospital. This is not something we stop about on a regular basis, but truly a gift that's not to be overlooked.

I absolutely loved everything I have tried from Tucson Village Farm's outdoor midweek market…read more Today's market was the last one for the season but they will resume it on September 9th (They post updates, menu for their prepared foods as well as the produce they will be selling each week at the midweek market on their Instagram account). I don't go very often because of the lines to pay but whenever I did go I LOVED what I tried. Today I got their delicious, fluffy, fresh and garlicky focaccia which was my favorite focaccia I have bought in Tucson. I also got their baba ganoush, something I am fairly picky about since I make it myself by roasting eggplants on a fire and this one was delicious. It had a touch of spiciness to it which I really enjoyed. I also really enjoyed sampling their mulligatawny soup and enjoyed the complimentary Hibiscus- Creosote drink they served today. Produce wise it was fun to find some sweet potato leaves today and I am looking forward to using them in a West African stew. I also got some eggplant and tomatoes. They had some nice looking garlic, onions, and squash. Last time I was there was last summer and they had delicious, fun, creative prepared dishes then too like a sunflower seed, basil pesto with purslane, a refreshing curtido and a green curry. The fluffy focaccia was $5 today and the baba ganoush was $5 as well. Tucson Village Farm offers various programs to support their goal to "reconnect young people to a healthy food system, teach them how to grow and prepare fresh food, and empower them to make healthy life choices. I am a genuine fan of Tucson Village Farm. I've been to their Wednesday markets a few times, and…read morehave popped in to check out an event. It's fun to see what they are growing, and to take a peek at the farm animals. It's a relaxed and family-friendly environment, and seems well managed and cared for. I stopped into their Wednesday market this week to try their wood-fired pizza. They were also selling plant starts, beautiful veggies they had grown on site, and a variety of prepared foods made in their kitchen. They had samples of most of the prepared foods--typically, they offer a soup, focaccia bread, cookies, and dips. Everything I sampled tasted great. It seems like everything offered is vegetarian, with many options also being vegan-friendly. The market is staffed by welcoming volunteers, and many young folks. They also had a musician playing farm and food related songs, which was a nice touch. There are picnic tables available if you want to eat your prepared foods on site, in the open air while enjoying the music. They accept cash or credit cards for all of their market goods. The wood fired pizza had two veggie options on the night I visited--one option was essentially a simple cheese pizza, while the other featured sweet potatoes, chiles, and arugula. The young folks making the pizzas explained the process very clearly. It takes a while for the pizza to be prepared (they are all made to order,) but the atmosphere was very pleasant, so the wait was enjoyable. The pizza featured a soft crust that was a bit charred from the wood fire on the top, but the bottom was well cooked and not charred. The pizza had a nice, simple flavor. Overall, I really like the vibe of the Wednesday markets at TVF, and would recommend getting on their email list so you can check out their menu for the week.
