Very responsive and communicative. Easy to schedule an appointment. We chatted a little about why I had so many knives, the good quality of them, and how we both used to work in restaurants. I brought a total of 12 professional knives (paring, boning, and chef knives) and paid $80 in cash. Great value, right? But when I started to use the different knives at home during the first couple of months I realized that at least half of them were not sharpened. I couldn't even cut a lemon in half! I was meaning to call Ron and tell him about this and see if he could sharpen the dull knives but l never did. Yes, I should have called to complain and ask for a solution but this shouldn't have happened in the first place! read more

Ron sharpened the knives I use on a daily. I didn't know how dull they were till I got them back. Wow!!! It's such a pleasure to use a tool that is sharpened than the dull ones I was using. And I know how dangerous a dull knife is. So I'm grateful that Ron did an amazing job. Thank you for your expertise. I will continue to use your services and will for sure be spreading the word about you. read more

I sent an e-mail asking about their services and never got a response. I am still unsure of where they are and if the sharpen lawn mower blades. A simple reply would have been appreciated. read more

Ron did a great job of sharpening my large and small tools. It was quick and I waited while he did the work would recommend his services.

I stopped by Ron's shop today to have kitchen knives sharpened. I cut up a lot of fruits and vegetables. Overtime, my knives have become dull. Ron was able to bring them back to life in less than a half hour. He is very personable and quite experienced at sharpening knives and scissors. Next time, I'll remember to bring my scissors. I highly recommend him. read more

MR Berman was asked if he knew how to and had sharpened the old solid wood, guillotine paper cutters. He stated yes done many. So, I took an antique 8 inch ingento cutter in 100 % pristine wood condition, to be sharpened. He used a screwdriver and wedged into the wood in several places to remove the bed blade. Scuffed that edge up with a little bench grinder sitting on his card table and said it was sharpened. That blade was not even totally given a new edge. That blade never needs sharpening. The blade on the arm that swings down was not touched, I had loosened the screws to make it simple to remove & grind a new 20-22 degre edge. It was left loose while Mr Berman cut items. EXTREMELY POOR PRACTICE. In the beginning I felt sorry for Mr Berman only having one item to sharpen so I made the COLLASAL ERROR of taking him 3 PRO SHUN KNIVES. A 10 inch, an 8 inch chief's knife and a SHUN pairing knife. Mr Berman finished them with massive burrs on one side (tells anyone not sharp) in aprox 180 grit TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. I showed him probs with knives prob with paper cutter, he proceeds to turn on a little bench grinder to attempt to deburr one of my chef knives, his hands were shaking so bad I stopped him. I had paid him his $54 charge prior to inspecting his work. He states to me if not satisfied he will refund in full. All his customers are always happy. After I showed Mr Berman where the errors were, he picked up the money and put it into his pocket. I then left and I took everything to my normal, (35 yrs) sharpener. [His machine was being repaired this week.] He inspected all, measured the angles on the blades, and told me he would restore the cutting angles and reinstall the superior cutting edges on all the necessary surfaces. This person never comments about his competition. This time he said " Mr Ripley, you should avoid using whomever did this to your equipment, they came very close to destroying your extremely expensive Damascus knives. They were finished in a very coarse grit." So, Mr Berman, your work is terrible, your "warranty" is hilarious, and I would watch out for that karma boomerang. PS I would suggest any future customers request to see and handle references, PRIOR to allowing him to do ANYTHING. I will update this if Mr Berman pays to correct these messes he made. read more

Ron did an excellent job with my lawn mower blade. Look forward to sending more items to him for sharpening.

Ron sharpened my knives for thanksgiving and actually didn't sharpen a knife that he said was good to go. Honesty always wins!

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man and you feed him for a lifetime" This is a quote that comes to mind from my experience with Ron. I went to him with my chefs knife, santoku and partoku after trying to sharpen my own knives using a whetstone I bought on amazon. When I told him this, he asked me to bring my whetstone and he'd show me how to use it. He's very kind and has a wealth of knowledge. The drive for me is about 30 minutes but I will make that drive every time before I take them anywhere else. TL:DR- He showed me how to use my whetstone and sharpened my blades so beautifully I can't wait to use them! read more

This kind gentlemen allowed me into his home to wait and chat with him while he sharpened my Woodman's Pal machete. He was very friendly and only charged $15 for a double sided machete blade that was well over 12 inches in length. Oh! Did I mention that I just dropped by after a quick phone call to see if he worked on that day? It was a late Sunday morning and he still received me! He offered to sharpen any other pocket/folder knives I had with me, and 10% off my next visit, for the 6 piece Henkel kitchen knives I have and use at home! All around class act! read more

Honestly I hate leaving bad reviews but don't ever take your straight razors to this guy. He has no idea what he is doing and damaged two of my blades, one of them beyond repair (he ruined the temper by running it on a belt). I emailed him and he was very quick to deny everything and act as though he had done no wrong. Shame he couldn't admit he didn't know how to sharpen straight razors and advise me to go somewhere else. His greed over 8$ or 15$ has destroyed a 200 dollar blade. Thanks Ron. Great work! read more

If you want excellent work and even better customer service, trust your knives and scissors with Ron Berman! Ron is very pleasant to talk to and accommodating with scheduling an appointment. Very satisfied with my cooking knives and dog grooming scissors. Super sharp like new! He also sharpened while I waited--only took less than 20 min for 10 items. I'm returning to Ron soon with my clippers and more! read more

What a find! Ron works out of his garage in the winter, on the front porch in the summer, and apparently if he's feeling particularly generous, he'll even make house calls. He sharpened up my mother's collection of nice but very worn knives. You sit, watch, and chit chat while he works. No need to drop off and pick up later, he gets to work immediately. He does business the old fashioned way, so give him a call before you come as a courtesy, and bring cash or check; he does not accept credit cards. read more

Ron Berman was quick to respond, easy to work with, and exceptionally skilled at his craft. He was also very helpful in his knife care and accessory recommendations.....and he was a super nice guy, on top of everything else. I contacted Ron through Yelp, he responded within 3 minutes and 5 minutes later I was on my way to get my knives sharpened. He and his wife were super personable and I was able to wait while my knives were sharpened. I will definitely be using Ron's services in the future, and I will be recommending him to all of my family, friends, and clients, as well. read more

I would leave 0 stars if I could .I brought him almost 20 clipper blades I use for dog grooming .While I was there he sharpened a few .I was uncomfortable sitting around because he constantly flirts with me .Making comments how he wishes I was his wife .He clearly has gotten too old for this .He kept dropping everything and losing the screws. He was shaking .He said he now has diabetes and could not feel his fingers .When I got the blades back and tested them I was furious to see he didn't put back the blades properly .They were not adjusted . Only 2 out of 20 were working and wouldn't cut .The blades were so rough if I were to use them on a dog I would have cut them .I spent $180.When I called him to tell him I wanted my money back he refused .When I told him how upset I was and explained how everything was not done properly he offered for me to bring them back .I explained it should of been done right the first time if he knew what he was doing .He got angry with me and hung up on me .PLEASE do not use him to sharpen your stuff .He was completely unprofessional and has no clue what he's doing .Read his reviews there are also others that are not happy with his service .I wish I read these before losing $180 . read more

We had Mr. Berman sharpen about six or eight knives (cleavers, chefs knives, serrated, hunting). They were sharper than when they started but not as sharp as when I've taken them to other professional knife sharpening businesses. Our home sharpener (chefs choice) did just as good a job so we were disappointed overall. read more

Don't even think of taking your straight razor to this guy! I don't know about his knives or shares sharpening, maybe he's good, but I doubt it. Anyway, he doesn't know a thing about straight razors. And he's a liar, too. Instead of telling me the truth that he does not know how to hone straight razors, he ruined my new Böker razor, and promised to return the money, - still waiting.... So , be warned. And his idiotic conversations,- I wonder who may like them. I made a mistake that I didn't read the review by Omaid K. about his bad experience with this jerk. read more

Beyond being a true gentleman, Ron is an exceptional craftsman. He educated us about the best steels and that the more expensive the knife set doesn't necessarily mean it is made of the "best" steel or reflect knife quality. We brought knives, scissors and Machetes to his lovely home and Ron had them brand new within 30 minutes while we waited. His prices are more than reasonable and I cannot recommend him enough for your sharpening needs. read more

I'm a bit of a blade enthusiast and Ron's my go to for sharpening. I enjoy that he invites me in and chats while he works, and I don't have to mail out or come back in a week like some services do. He's done my kitchen knives a few times and managed to fix one that another sharpener had screwed up. He also offers to do my pocket knife at no charge, and even offered to teach me how to sharpen if I were to go get my own stones at some point. He also does some more exotic items, like zig-zag scissors (which boggles my mind), swords and spears. My friend once brought him a spear that had a terrible factor edge on it, which he sorted out. read more

Did a great job on our knives, and offered to show another customer how to use a stone correctly.

Great service with a smile! Easy to find, communicate with, and good prices. A pleasure doing business with Ron.
