Maybe I shouldn't be writing this review and letting this little secret out, but I want this little, mom & pop shop to thrive and expand. Price is relative to how much you can afford to spend, but I think that Romney Toy Shop is a steal for the used/collector's toys that I bought. For $40.00, I got a NIB Hotwheel John Glenn space shuttle & capsule set, 2 nosy bears (1987), 7 CVS Rocky & Bullwinkle bean bag plushies (2000), 5 Strawberry Shortcake plastic figurines (1983), 1 Strawberry Shortcake bicycle (1983), 1 Sea Wee "Shelly" doll (1983), and three mini plushies for my dollhouse miniature toy shop.
What I wanted but did not purchase were the vintage 1970's Fisher Price house, farm and fire station complete with animals, vehicles, furniture and people for $39.00 to $49.00 each. There was even extra, vintage Fisher Price furniture and vehicles to purchase for $1.00 each, if you wanted to. There was also a vintage 1980's Cabbage Patch kid astronaut for $39.00, and 1", 3" and 12" Care Bears ranging from $1.00 for the 1" and $2 - $3 for the 3". I can't remember the price for the 12", but it was very reasonable. Everything in the store is clean, in very good to excellent, used condition and from a smoke free home from what I could tell.
When I got home, I looked on ebay for how much these toys would cost, and everything I bought was a bargain. My favorite pastime is hunting flea markets, antique stores, auctions and thrifts stores for toys from the 80's (my childhood) hoping (always against all hope and reason) to find them at garage sale prices, but either I'm always too late after collectors (who probably sell these toys on ebay at high prices) have scooped them up, or everyone knows what they're worth and sell them to collectors or ebay resale people. While walking through the Romney Toy Shop, I kept wanting to pinch myself thinking I was in a little pocket of the Twilight Zone where my wish was granted. I'll definitely come back here whenever I'm in Lafayette, IN. read more
