I've been very happy about my experiences with Dr. Romano and his team. I first saw him when his practice was part of Hinsdale Orthopaedics - Oak Park. He's since split away and gone out on his own. My first experiences with this practice date back to when it was Trinity Orthopaedics. Dr. Sheehan was an exceptional doctor and Dr. Romano keeps to that tradition. He is thorough with his exams and spends a lot of time interacting with patients and understanding their concerns. I like that he seems to focus more on rehabilitation than surgical intervention, instead favoring physical therapy, sports medicine, and other non-invasive approaches. At the same time, he's not going to ignore the need for surgery when it will get the job done. I trust Dr. Romano to take care of me and do a do a good job. He's an all-around excellent surgeon. One thing that stands out about Dr. Romano is his unique diagnostic approach. He focuses on root causes. He explained to me about one patient who came in wanting shoulder surgery, but he was able to trace the cause to the mid-back. When he treated that, the shoulder pain went away. Had he operated on the shoulder, it probably would have continued to hurt because the shoulder was fine. I went in for an injury and he was quickly able to pinpoint the cause and get me to physical therapy. The physical therapy department in his office, led by Dr. Nugent, is excellent. The guy is really smart and cares a lot about his patients. The only downside is that you may wait a while to be seen. His thoroughness comes at a minor cost. The waits can be long some days, but I'd rather wait for good service than have a doctor spend 2-3 minutes with me on a half-assed exam but be right on schedule. I understand they limit the number of presenting concerns you can bring in a single visit, but that makes sense. read more

The Lombard location staff is beyond rude over the phone then I finally get there myself and it's insane they kept saying I never had an appointment. After some time leaving me in limbo I was told to go to River forest thank god for the only person who helped me some woman named Karina I believe seems to be the only competent worker at both locations three weeks of nightmares wasn't even worth my time. my doctor however was patient with me so their is that. the levels of frustration wasn't worth the time read more

Dr Song did my rotator cuff repair and did an amazing job! My arm barely looks like I had surgery. With two locations I can get an appointment easily. The staff has always made me feel at home which is refreshing! I hope I don't need care again but if I do, ROC is where I will go. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Patel's. I had a 4-way patella fracture in my left leg, which I didn't receive any treatment for for 5 weeks. I injured my right arm, causing pain in my wrist that went up to my elbow. The x-rays showed a fracture in my ulna, which Dr. Patel never saw. He ignored my pain until the 5th week. I ended up switching doctors and had to have surgery on my knee to correct the displacement. My right arm will require therapy to try to recover from the morbidity. I definitely do not recommend him. read more

After breaking my ankle, my ER Doctor recommended Romano Orthopaedic Center. Everyone was very kind and efficient, and they were able to get me in same day for my consult. I saw Dr McGann, and loved my experience with her and her team. She was straight to the point with my diagnosis, readjusted my stint for comfort, and her team got me in for surgery ASAP. I previously went to Romano Orthopaedics for rehab but when I tried to schedule for a new injury I was told that they do not accept Medicare at all. I told them I additionally had Medsup but they said it didn't matter. read more

This is referring to Dr. Maria McGann. She did my first surgery no problem. But when it came to my second one , TOTALLY mess me up. She had to remove 2 screws, she didn't do it . She add more hardware. Original screws still there.Its been 2 years still can't walk. I'm walking with cane now, I have nerve Damage. It's the MOST HORRIBLE THING I'VE EVER HAPPENED TO ME. Go somewhere else. I'm pain constantly. Now I need another surgery. I hate to this day I went back to her. I'm disabled now. No walking no more trips. She mess me UP. Thank you read more

I met with Dr. McQueen - who was both very friendly and helpful BUT he gave me some TERRIBLE 'advice.' After tearing my meniscus he suggested I have surgery to remove ALL of it (I would get arthritis if not). I told a few surprised folks and they urged me to get a second opinion. Soooo, I went to a knee specialist at Northwestern and after viewing my MRI, he confirmed that everything Dr. McQueen recommended was "absolute BS!" At my age, removing all of the padding would have been disastrous, as you always need to repair or preserve as much meniscus as possible! My savior also suggested physical therapy before considering surgery so.....long story longer, Dr. M is a nice guy but just proceed with caution. P.S. After PT, I'm back to 100%. read more

Dr. Maria McGann, the most callous doctor I've encountered. Treated me for an injury caused by a dog. More than 30 debridements without as much as a Topical anesthetic. How many more would she have done if I hadn't walked out. So disappointed. read more

Dr McGann completely missed Lisfranc fracture, found by two other ortho surgeons I went to for second opinion, and she wanted to do surgery on a stable fibula fracture, which the two other orthos said was not needed. Thank God I trusted my gut instinct and got second opinion. read more

Had My Meniscus tear repair with Dr Victor Romano Best Surgeon Great Experience. Very outgoing makes you feel very comfortable. Has a great team. They all take care of everything for you before surgery. Dr Romano is very special of how your physical therapy will be taken care of. Best of all great doc great team! Highly recommended! read more

I went to Dr. Romano for a second opinion after another Ortho recommended surgery for the arthritis in my thumb joint. Previous treatment included injections, and both topical/oral medications. Dr. Romano presented the option for a PRP injection. This procedure uses your own blood which is then injected back into the joint space. It was all done in the office with the Doctor and his excellent staff. I had my procedure 3 weeks ago and am already experiencing decreased inflammation and pain, with improved function. My thumb is immobilized allowing use of my (dominant)hand and wrist. Surgery would have taken me out of the loop for approximately six weeks. I have three weeks to go and I am very optimistic about the results. Thank you Dr Romano and the staff at Romano Orthopaedic Center. I am grateful. read more

I chose to see Dr Romano based on some good reviews I read. However, I can't comment on his ability as a Dr because I never got to see him. I went for pain in both shoulders and both elbows but the staff said he could only do a consult in one area. The issue is that the pain is connected between my elbow and shoulder in both arms!! So I would have had to get an xray on my shoulders and then seek a consult/treatment from the Dr on one visit. Then take more time off work and get another xray and seek another consult from the Dr for my elbows on another day. Despite the pain running between shoulder and elbow. I thought of this while I was waiting and then went to get my xray done where I asked again to have the elbows and shoulders xrayed at the same time. The radiologist said it was their "policy" to only do one treatment area at a time and I needed to choose between shoulders and elbows. At this point I asked to see the "policy" and was met with a blank stare from the Radiologist. I asked if it was on the website or printed in the office. He responded that he didn't know and that "he just worked there". Umm OK I then asked to see the office manager and asked her for a copy of the policy so I could really understand the reasoning and why I would need to come back a second time and take more time out of my busy schedule. The office manager said there was nothing written down. This raised red flags with me because if nothing is written down, then it is not a policy. It is an idea that can change at a minutes notice to suit the practice's own benefit. To me it sounded like the practice was double-dipping into the system and getting paid twice for a treatment that could be taken care of in one visit. It really smells like they are milking the system. This was further confirmed when a lady behind the desk said "it doesn't matter to you, your insurance company will pay anyway". This really made me mad. I told them that that attitude is precisely why the cost of health care in this country is out of control. Insurance companies get a lot of the heat but doctors who are pushing through as many patients as they can and doing multiple consults/treatments for the one case are also impacting increasing premiums. I am sure doctors don't enter medical school because they want to bill, bill, bill but rather they go in with a social conscience to heal and repair people. Where along the way do doctors lose that and start getting fixated on the quantity of claims they are submitting? The office manager even said it is a time management reason to only treat one area so they can see as many people as possible (ie. So they can submit as many claims as they can in a day). I pity the person who has a fall and hurts their hip, knee and ankle. Having to come back on three separate occasions would be insane. I should have cancelled my appointment when I made my booking and asked what billing codes would be used for my visit so I could estimate the overall cost. The lady on the other end of the phone said they don't know the billing codes. Wow, that is shocking. I should have walked out of the practice when I entered for my appointment and the people in the office were cold and so lacking of life and personality that it really wasn't an enjoyable experience just entering the practice. No smiles, no small talk, no making the patient feeling at all welcome. In fact the lack of commitment to the patient experience was nowhere to be seen. Wouldn't it be great if a doctor focused on the patient experience, the quality of care and ensuring a patient was repaired quickly rather than focusing on the quantity of patients they are seeing just so they can bill, bill, bill? Who knows how many times I would have had to go back to him just so he could bill, bill, bill. After I got nowhere in seeing a written policy, I decided that I did not want my health placed in the hands of this practice and Dr Romano. Maybe Dr Romano is the diamond in a pit of coal. Dr. Romano is intelligent skilled and incredibly nice. I have been a patient for 23 years. Recently without any other options Dr. Romano did a complete right knee replacement. His staff including Morgan one of his PAs are kind and caring. I would recommend him to anyone and for the first time in a very long time, my knee feels very good. I think he is the best! read more

This review is long overdue, I don't write reviews (in fact, this is my second one ever). When I met Dr. Romano (I was referred to him by a woman at the gym) he was very warm and friendly. We discussed what could be causing the pain in my knee (I started having the pain in the Summer, but I didn't see Dr. Romano until the Fall). The MRI didn't show anything, so we had to wait until he went into the knee to see the problem. I had knee surgery on my right knee three years ago (I said, long overdue). I am in my forties and I wasn't happy about having knee surgery (I felt I was too young). I had a torn meniscus and I have arthritis (runs in the family). On surgery day, I was very nervous because many people were in the operating room and I had never had a major surgery done before. We talked about me staying awake to see the procedure and I did. Dr. Romano took bone marrow from my left hip and put it in my knee. He drilled four holes in my knee and fixed the torn meniscus. I must say, recovery was horrible for me I gained over 40 lbs. and I had to learn to walk all over again. I stayed on crutches for 8 weeks (I'm so glad I did--it was so hard. My friend that had knee surgery 2 years before my surgery stayed on her crutches for only a couple of weeks and she still has pain in her knee). I am the type of person that goes to the gym every day, I bike 60 miles, I do boot camp classes etc. So this was very hard not being able to walk. Slowly, I was able to learn how to walk again and I'm steadily losing the weight I gained (my left knee started acting up last winter, but it's better now). If I had to have knee surgery again, I would definitely choose Dr. Romano. My right knee is bionic I have no problems now, I'm riding my bike again, jumping, boot camp classes. It's great. Recovery took about 2 1/2 years I want to say, of course me being me. I would overdue it at the gym and my knee would swell, so maybe my recovery took a bit longer because I was pushing myself just a bit. It's been three years now, and I'm great no problems with the right knee. And, if (hopefully not--I found a great joint support) I have to have surgery on the left knee I would go see Dr. Romano! read more

I chose to see Dr. Romano because of the good reviews that I heard from other people. I decided to give him a shot because I was desperate to get in with a doctor due to an injury that happened at work. I thought when I first saw Dr. Romano that he was great and he had all of the answers to why I was feeling the pain that I did in my shoulder and wrist. I was so wrong, and I wasted a whole 5 months of my time going to him. Every time I would go to him he would come up with all of these things that were wrong with me for example, the first time I saw him he told me I had carpal tunnel syndrome and some kind of dysfunction in my rib cage. The next visit he said that I had carpal tunnel, shoulder tendinitis and dysfunction in my neck. It was something different every time I went. He also always gave this ridiculous speech on how to wear a nose strip which I had tried because I believed and trusted him because he was a doctor but that was his answer to everything and it clearly wasn't working for me. I was disappointed that in the 5 months of going to him, he never once requested a cortisone shot even though he thought I had shoulder tendinitis. It also took him 5 months to finally request an MRI and EMG even though nothing showed up on the x-rays and he should have done that 4 months prior after the physical therapy didn't work for me. I felt that nothing was ever done at the doctor visits and that he almost had me coming back just for the money. His responses were getting so crazy that I even had my father come with me for some of the visits. He would run all of these physical tests on me and push me and say That my muscles are weak and then put a nose strip on and not push me again but not as hard and say "see the nose strip is the answer". I am lucky that it had been a workman's comp. claim because I truly feel sorry for the people that go there and have to pay out of pocket to hear that they need to wear a nose strip. I was just angry that I had been to so many visits with him and nothing had ever gotten done. He had no suggestions on what to even do for the pain except for using the nose strips. I would rather have a doctor tell me they don't have the answer then continue to have me coming back. I ended up getting a second review because things weren't getting done at Romano's office. I was lucky because the second Orthapedic doctor that I saw had found and tackled the problem spot on. After getting my second review I found out I didn't have carpal tunnel, tendinitis in my shoulder or a dysfunctional rib cage and neck. read more
