Now let me set the stage, we were behind a 3 some and every time we got to the next hole we needed to wait for them to finish. (Rightfully so as they were booked back to back) A gentleman rolled up when we were on hole 4, just finishing up, and proceeded to tell us to play faster, when I told him that we needed to wait every time we got to a hole for the gentlemen ahead of us to finish he was rude and told us we needed to just play faster and he said there was a hole between us and the next Players. We proceeded to finish that hole and got to hole 5 - a PAR 3 130 Yards!!! We finished that quickly and proceeded to hole 6 where we ended up waiting to once again play again!!! There was a twosome behind us that never caught up and had to wait for us so if we were delaying the game I think it would have been apparent if they were continuously waiting for us! I don't think this is acceptable behavior and will most likely never return! I get it's a busy day but as a worker know your audience, know what's happening and don't be rude to customers who have paid a good penny to play a round with 4 people on Father's Day!!! There are many many other courses to play that will appreciate business!!

The course is semi-links style, with some holes with tree cover. The holes are laid out well, with multiple options from the tee. As with most links courses, there are ample bunkers. The green sizes are generous, with tons of undulation. If you're far from the hole, no easy two putts. And then there is the wind! Wow - what a challenge. Downwind off the tee and then into the wind for your approach! Makes for a challenging day... This is a private club (founded 1969), whose sole purpose is golf - no tennis courts or pool here. If you love golf, find a member and go as a guest! Good range and practice facilities.

Behind the Buffalo Botanical Garden is a golf course. I never knew that, although I have looked at…read moreit often over the years. Just so happened when I stopped by the other day people were actually golfing, hence my newfound info about the golf course. Its part of an Olmstead designed park called South Park. Its one of the 6 "Major" parks in the Olmstead group (others are Delaware, MLK, Riverside, Front, Cazenovia). Three of those have golf courses, which are open and ready for you to come play. So I researched a little and found out that this park actually used to have the Botanical Gardens as part of it. The 155 acre park was designed as an arboretum, and still has hundreds of varieties of trees. They sold the Botanical Gardens to Erie County in the late 1900's, who now manages it. However they remain connected by land of course. In the park there is also a pond, aptly called South Park Pond. Its fairly large for a pond. You can drive around the entire park on Botanical Drive, which will allow you to see the whole thing, including the Botanical Gardens. All in all a nice part of the vast Buffalo Park System, beautifully designed, even if the golf courses are newer additions. Olmstead wanted the parks to be open and accessible to all, so he did not design them with golf courses in mind. Very easy parking along the roadway around the park. All the golfers I saw were zooming around in carts, so presumably there is a golfhut somewhere where they can park the cars and pick up the carts, but I did not notice that as I walked and drove around the park.

The Southtown Bowling lanes had a great setup with plenty of lanes, balls and rental shoes. We were up and running in 5 minutes. Their convenient bar helped quench our thirst. After a great bowling experience we decided to stick around and eat dinner. The staff were super friendly and the restaurant had a variety of tasty selections. I went with the Reuben and my girlfriend had a pizza. If you're looking for someplace to take a break from the winter blues it is highly recommended.

I opted to buy the State Park Pass which was around $75 to visit NYS parks that we, our families and countless generations have been paying for. Lucky us. Oh, and don't mind the giant sewage treatment plant within feet of this beach. Hahaha! You can't MAKE this stuff up. The jokes write themselves.
