At the time, the wedding was about three months away. I read through all the Yelp reviews of floral designers and florists in Iowa City. The first florist I contacted notified me that they were booked that day, but recommended Flowers by Jacqueline. I called and spoke to the owner, Jackie, for quite a while. She asked me questions about my daughter's style, and preferred colors, flowers, etc. When I told her my daughter's style was more in the Bohemian vein, she laughed and said that gave her some great ideas. One of the things she first mentioned, was using thistle. My daughter loved the idea. After we gave Jackie our colors (pale pinks and blues and ivory), she felt she had enough to go on. We let her do her design work and kept her apprised, with photos, of what was being used on the tables. The week before the wedding, it was decided that an arbor would be used. Without flinching or hesitation, Jackie jumped on board and said she would take care of it with greenery and some flowers. Without anything on it, it looked like the gallows. However, after Jackie and her crew were finished, it was beautiful! it was so much prettier than any of the ones that I saw online. I was so happy and so was my daughter and my planning cohorts. Jackie was easy to work with and kept me in the loop at every turn. The bouquets, table centerpieces, guestbook/gift table arrangements were exactly what we wanted; everything was perfect! As a harried mother of the bride, I did not take any photos of the flowers, the arbor, the bouquets, boutonnières, nothing! I will post photos once I receive some from other folks. We had bud vases on the tables, a few arrangements throughout the ceremony and reception space, and she supplemented the arch at the vineyard with extra greenery and flowers (picture below!).
