It is a cute little place on the north side of 8 mile but it is small, no a/c, parking is awkward but you get to skate stress free!

Last known as Maxx Play, the 90K sq. ft. facility was also the former home for a plethora of businesses that failed the test of time. From bounce castles, to paintball, to Whirlyball before it. The place was shut down in 2009's and it sat empty for a couple of years. In 2011, the new owners refurbished and renovated, and reopened as The New Rink Roller Sports Complex. Some of the original decor remained, the original entrance, the wood floor skating area, and those globe chandeliers. And with the vast space, they were able to maintain most of the original businesses. In addition to the rink, A separate section with bounce houses remained, as well as a separate section for an arcade. There was also a closed off section I wasn't quite able to see, but it looked like another rink (Roller Hockey? Private party?). And, of course, facilities for parties, complete with a snack bar. Lastly, there is a pro shop to cover all sorts of repairs and carries items for you to purchase. But the reason why I'm writing about this place is simply because it exists. With a bowling alley up the street, two trampoline parks and a rock climbing gym nearby, and a laser tag facility down the street, this rink rounds out activities nicely for the area. During the summer, they have admission specials and skate programs to help occupy our kids and getting in some physical activity to boot! 4 stars overall. For those of you wondering, I think the Paint Ball business is still there. I didn't see an entrance from the inside, so I'm assuming it's only accessible from the plaza. If you would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company.

Then, when my daughter and I went to the woman bathroom near the soccer/ hockey rink there was a man using the bathroom with the stall door open. He did not flush the toilet or wash his hands and when we told the rental manager she said " oh they do that all the time" as if it was ok and normal.

They do lock-in skating events usually during holidays mostly. There are tables for the folks that aren't skating and they have Wi-Fi and a parent room that's quieter. Two seat high tables along the fence for the minor kids and a bunch of random couches by the main entrance. The parent room provides a bit of shelter from the constant noise of wheels rolling over metal plates at the top and bottom of a ramp. The interior is a big open warehouse. Fenced in for the skaters. Not fancy, but lots of different ramps for skateboarding, rollerblading or for razor scooters. My nephew wanted to try out every ramp to see which one was to his liking. Do bring a book, noise canceling headset and maybe a phone charger too. If you need snacks, Kroger is just across Stephenson and Penn Station subs just a half a mile away. They do have some snacks in the 3 vending machine. Probably a bit more fun coming with friends. My nephew felt a bit comfy after a half hour of getting the lay of the land. It can feel a bit chilly in the warehouse. My nephew said there's some fun ramps and runs, he was getting toasty running around some. Not me. He walks some and studies them ahead of skating to see what's on the other side to make sure there aren't any stairs on the other side of a ramp. My nephew likes the two half circle ramp with the flat landing in between. He also enjoyed the bowl, which has a slope to enter it.

Highlights include interactive water features, food concessions, and restrooms. They're open every day from 11:00am-7:00pm. The fun fountain is available Memorial weekend thru Labor Day weekend. The splash pad/fountain becomes an ice rink in the winter months. It's a small open skate rink, no hockey, no extensive skating such as figure or speed. Mostly kids and not really worth the journey. Unless of course you love strapping the blades on for an out door effect. The lingering winter months have created the perfect atmosphere to spend quality time at the City Square Ice Rink. A positive experience for friends and family awaits you. Especially, if you enjoy the outdoor element. As close to a pond as living in the city will allow. Don't worry if you don't own ice skates, rental skates are available at the rink! General admission is $5, and skate rental is $3. UPCOMING SPECIAL DATES: on February 10th, boys skate free! On February 24th, Girls skate free! And don't forget, February 8th is glow skate from 6-10 p.m. Remember, weather permitting for ice rink hours. Call 586-574-4518 for details. 2/20
