Ive driven past this place on many occasions and it always looked busy, so we thought we'd try it out on a rainy Thursday night. Also to be fair, we rocked up at 8:30pm. I could see the head waiter looked a little crest fallen that we had walked in, at a time which I assume they were hoping to be packing up the kitchen. But, this is Sydney after all, not country NSW so onward and upward we went. The interior is very well kept. Clean and simple. Our waiter forgot to bring us water to the table. ( half the room had water, the other half didnt) he also forgot to bring the drinks menu. They are Fully licensed. They also sell Vietnamese Larger. Mine was flat though. We had 3 different waiters, one of whom, the other explained as "the boy is new" so as to excuse why we hadn't brought us those things. Fair enough. It made me feel slightly sorry for him. After our last experience at Yen for Viet, and also after reading the short introduction to "how to order Vietnamese food", in the front cover of their menu, we decided to only order one entree this time. If a Schnitzel is the measure of a pub bistro, I reckon a Bahn Xeo is the measure of a Vietnamese restaurant. Theirs was really really awesome. The prawns were really fresh and the pork was juicy and tender. It was served with pickled carrot and radish. They dont have Pho on the menu at all. So dont turn up here if youve got a hankering for that addictive stuff. Mains were generous and fresh, my only complain being that because the air con was cranked up, the food went cold very quickly. This place is busy. You would probably need to book on weekends.

Of course to accurately judge a Vietnamese restaurant I had to try the raw beef pho. It was very good. They must have read previous reviews because they now give you all the trimmings as standard. Well most of the trimmings. Owing to my gingerness I had to request chilli. Bill got salty fish and chicken rice (oh so nice) and a chicken laksa (ok but there's better nearby). Pho Sam is a pretty casual affair. You're there for the food not the atmosphere. Get in, eat, get out, repeat. We did go back again tonight for takeaway. We got more of the same plus Sichuan Beef. My brother reckons that wasn't very good. He's a guts and he didn't finish it. The lemon chilli chicken wings are not bad. The delivery service (it might have been Deliveroo) essentially took off with our order. We contacted the restaurant to find out what was happening and the owners apologised and sent one of the workers at the restaurant to personally deliver a newly cooked order. Their website does them a real disservice and is quite a bad user experience so I would recommend viewing their website for the menu but calling them to make an order. The offer credit card payment over the phone or cash on delivery. Their food is delicious. We are very big fans of the salt and pepper menu items; especially the chicken and the pork. If you're worried about Covid, they offer a contactless delivery service. I think the majority of our annual entertainment/takeaway budget is spent here and we wouldn't have it any other way.
