Rice paper rolls freshly wrapped dipped in special hoi sin peanut sauce! Yummy!
Linda T.

We tried this newly opened restaurant after some crazy shopping. Tired and hungry, we stopped by and noticed a pretty interesting new place with some friendly faces and decided to give this new place a go. Greeted by very courteous staff, we were welcomed and ushered into this already packed out cozy restaurant. I have to say that the lanterns and the feature wall made me feel like I was in Vietnam. After making our orders, we decided to quench our thirst and try out the drinks menu. We were completely not disappointed by the amazing cold pressed orange juice, coconut juice and sugarcane with strawberry juice! I was surprised sugarcane juice was on the menu as this was a rarity in the area, something I would have to trek to Cabramatta to have. So thumbs up for offering that! We ordered chicken noodle soup, beef noodle soup, sugar cane prawn with vermicelli, spring rolls, rice paper rolls and rice with pork chops. We waited a maximum of 5 minutes for our food to arrive, brownie points there! The food was hot and fresh and it tasted very authentic! I'm glad there is finally an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in the area. We all gave it a thumbs up, the food tasted amazing, surprisingly well cooked and presented. I'm definitely going back to try the other dishes. I was so stuffed but when I looked around, a lot of the patrons were eating pandan creme brule and having iced coffee. Perhaps I'll stop by for a coffee and dessert next time as well. I also noticed a lot of people ordering baguette rolls. That's on my to eat list too! Can't wait to come back here! Definitely worth going for some decent Vietnamese food.

Nice pho place, would do in a pinch. Cool decor, decent flavour. Priced at the shopping centre standard.

Ordered takeaway pork chop, it was really nice! Very generous portions, and nicely packed. Will come back soon to eat in :)

When I walked into Pho Sam and I was hit with a palpable wave of indifference, I knew it was winner winner crispy skin chicken with tomato rice dinner. Which was delicious. By the way. Of course to accurately judge a Vietnamese restaurant I had to try the raw beef pho. It was very good. They must have read previous reviews because they now give you all the trimmings as standard. Well most of the trimmings. Owing to my gingerness I had to request chilli. Bill got salty fish and chicken rice (oh so nice) and a chicken laksa (ok but there's better nearby). Pho Sam is a pretty casual affair. You're there for the food not the atmosphere. Get in, eat, get out, repeat. We did go back again tonight for takeaway. We got more of the same plus Sichuan Beef. My brother reckons that wasn't very good. He's a guts and he didn't finish it. The lemon chilli chicken wings are not bad. Verdict: delicious Vietnamese but stick to the Vietnamese options on the menu.

Crispy skin chicken with tomato rice, pork chop with rice noodles and raw beef pho are on high rotation for many of my friends. Or really, tomato rice with anything. Servings are bigger than your face with some like the Nasi Goreng just seem endless. Just like any good Asian restaurant, the service is brusque but efficient. The owner is an unsmiling lady with a fierce bob. She may seem scary at first but deep down she's a real softie, known to slide a free plate of spring rolls or a glass of red bean ice onto the tables of her regulars. Because in the end, it's all about good food at good prices.

I have a word of advice for you. Have you ever had a dish in a restaurant that becomes your…read morefavourite and then one day you go back for it and the restaurant is no longer there? Well it happened to us. We loved the Vietnamese Spaghetti and Meat balls at Me Pho in Eastwood . It was a signature dish and quite often on Friday my wife and I would have a lunch date there and have this dish- I had it three weeks in a row a few months back. Their other dishes were great too but a couple of months ago I drove past and...... gone. Minh Hai Vietnamese Restaurant was in its place. If I knew that I would never have this dish again I would have eaten it everyday until I was sick. My advice is to learn how to make your favourite dish before it could be gone. Someday I will try to recreate the flavours we experienced at that restaurant... sigh... Which brings us to my review of the replacement Vietnamese restaurant. I tried to keep an open mind because they have had a restaurant in Haymarket since 1980 so just maybe they might know a thing or two! I was greeted by smiling faces on that day and given complimentary hot tea right away, and free soup after ordering . I ordered the Crispy Pork Chop Combination plate- it had a generous serve of crispy chop along with rice, fried runny egg, sauce for the chop, and a curious mixture made of rice noodles and I think roast pork. I have to say it was yummy - I gobbled it up and because the serving was generous, almost didn't finish my rice but did because it was all so tasty. One end of the chop was a bit dry and tough, but the next bits were great. I am looking forward to going back there and trying the rest of their food- Maybe they don't have my favourite dish but I'm confident they can make me happy

While it came quite quick and hot, the broth is very salty with not much favour. We also ordered a laksa, same, so much salt and not much favour. There are at least 3 Vietnamese restaurant in the same location, can't say this is the best or even worth going again.

The congee was interesting, but at $15 a bowl of boiled white rice, compared to less than $5 a bowl at every other Chinese restaurant, it's a bit steep. Tasted and looked good though. The onsen eggs on toast and salmon was okay, but tasted a bit too ordinary. I saw both the ex Masterchef contestants hard at work. I liked seeing that they were personally behind the food and care about delivering quality food to customers. Too often these days, a celebrity chef will leave the restaurant to run itself.

Well Kin is a bit like that but also in every way the opposite. Kin serves Asian-style cafe food, spanning Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese and Malaysian cuisines with some Australian cafe style food to boot. And somehow...it works! The salmon is out of this world - super tender but with a lovely charred surface. My money's on sous vide then blow torched. The accompanying spinach is a curious ball of umami and the onsen eggs have me leave poached eggs behind in the dust. The pho is incredibly rich yet delicate and the black sesame shake is grey like concrete, just the way black sesame anything should be. Despite not being a follower of My Kitchen Rules, I somehow still know of Shanelle and Uel. It's a delight to see them hard at work in the kitchen when we visit and even more so when we see them truly embodying their name, bantering with their staff and checking in to make sure they've eaten. It is clear that the food here is made with love. Kin, try as you may to keep me away with your terrible parking, puns and queues, but I will be back for the rest of the menu!
