We booked a 2-day guided trip for four to catch redfish. We were disappointed, to say the least…read more We all know how to fish, so were not expecting a lot of help with equipment or baiting hooks. However, having fished charters in Florida, Alaska, and Hawaii, this is the first time we have ever had to compete with our guide to catch fish. Never before have we even been with a guide who actively fished, but instead took care of his guests and kept them on the fish. The Captain stood in the prime angler's spot on the front deck next to the trolling motor - he had a remote, but chose not to use it, for what ever reason. His line was always the first one in the water, and he fished virtually every new area ahead of any of those of us paying for the trip. He did, reluctantly, put his gear aside for a quick reset if one of us asked for help, or to net a fish for us. Otherwise, it was as if he was going fishing, and we just rode out on the boat with him. He never put us in any area where there was a lot of activity; we would fish a non-productive area until we would finally all sit down and wait for him to look for another spot. We did catch some fish, but not much compared to the photos on their website of other groups with their captains on those same dates. Also, he did not dress the flounder properly that we caught, and the restaurant couldn't cook it for us. The second day, we just gave him the fish we did catch; I think he caught about 5 himself, and the rest of us caught about that many. With a paid trip for four, one of us had to sit out since the Captain kept fishing ahead of us. I was offered minimal compensation not to post this review. I told the owner I would not post it if they wanted to refund 1 full day of guided fishing as we had paid for two. They declined, so here it is.

The rooms are very nice and clean and the outdoor seating is great for hanging out. They provide dinner the night before, breakfast and lunch. The food is always good but you better be hungry because it's a lot of food!! We have been with several different captains over the years and they are all great. If the fish aren't biting, they will keep moving to other spots so we can limit out. We have been with Carl most of our trips and he is awesome! They also clean and filet your catch. We like to keep our redfish on the half shell. We always look forward to our trips and have invited friends and family to join us. They have been equally impressed as well. You won't regret booking with Griffin!

We scheduled a few weeks in advance and asked to be picked up from our hotel in the French Quarter (about 30-40 minutes from where we would fish). We were picked up early and had a great drive down to Lafitte. We went out with Dave, who was the perfect captain. Apparently the weather had been bad for the several weeks before we arrived, and the water was still murky as a result. Consequently, we were told that the fishing wasn't as epic as it can be when the water is clearer. Nevertheless, Dave knew of some spots to try, and we caught a bunch of fish--speckled trout, catfish, one redfish, one garfish, and, unintentionally, one crab. We would have caught more, but we were a boat full of novices, and so weren't as quick to "set" the hook as we should have been. It was a really perfect day, and Dave was the perfect guide. Next time I want to fish in New Orleans, I will definitely be calling these guys up again. If you're looking to fish near New Orleans, I highly recommend this outfit.

Had to wait out an early morning thunderstorm that delayed us for about an hour. After that Cpt. Dave took us out. The winds were up all day, but he stayed the course and we came back with our dinner, plus. We had to move around a bit to catch em, but we were fishing instead of just casting, which is cool by me. The food was delicious and in no short supply. There were snacks everywhere but I never got to them. We had a full breakfast at 5:30am, sandwiches on the water, a serious Cajun flavored lunch after returning off the water. Last but not least our dinner was served on the half shell, made fresh from our days catch. Can't wait to do more catching and eating to

I have walked into plenty of shady establishments in my time on this earth. I have often wondered…read moreif I would walk out of some, but occasionally I've found a gem. Cochiara is one such gem. Growing up in South Louisiana I spent a lot of time in Grand Isle. Heading there we would always stop at a friend's gas station/fishing supply/bar on the way to the island. I always remember the old men sitting at the bar laughing and drinking while we tried to convince my parents to buy us candy. Throughout the years I have visited many a boat launch and marina in Louisiana fishing communities with similar businesses. These places have always reminded me of those family trips and they always bring me great joy. After a recent trip to Boutte's for dinner, I discovered another place that made my quite happy. Cochiara is the convenience store/bar next to a boat launch. There used to be hotel rooms here, but I think they no longer exist. Inside is much more of a bar than convenience store, but there are chips and soft drinks should you need supplies for a fishing trip. The crowd was primarily local, but very friendly. I think I was tested by some locals when they noticed me singing David Alan Coe, but I must have passed with flying colors as they welcomed us with open arms. This may have been because I am a very likable guy with an incredible knowledge of country music. If you're not me, or not with me, you may have issues, but I will be glad to offer pointers for a small fee. The jukebox was stocked with old country classics, but also had some surprises including Madonna. The beer selection was somewhat lacking unless you are a fan of Bud products. When asked what beer they had besides Bud Light, the bartender advised of us of no less than seven different Bud products. If I buy a camp in Lafitte I will become a regular here. Even if I don't, I will make sure and stop on every trip I make. Note: I am thinking bars like this would make a great UYE. I wonder if we can figure out a way to do all waterfront bars one night.
