In a word: WOW. And, based on my "Eek! Methinks not," I don't mean that positively.
Nelly Fernandez, while placed in charge of providing me with a quote, does not know insurance specifics. For instance, when I asked her about HOA-based special assessments coverage, she tried to explain that "dwelling" or "building property" covers what's outside of my condo to include special assessments. Uh, WHAT?! I calmly explained that my understanding is that "dwelling" covers everything from the sheetrock in that the HOA doesn't cover and that special assessments coverage is something else entirely. I less calmly tried to re-explain this two more times. She repetitively insisted that I was wrong and stated, "This is the way it's done at Allstate." (e.g. that dwelling covers common-property issues and any/all special assessments instead of my unit)
Given the confusion, I then asked "If dwelling is outside of the unit, what covers everything from the sheetrock in?" She then tried to explain "personal property" as covering everything from the sheetrock in. Again, I calmly explained that my understanding is that "personal property" is all of my personal belongings and has nothing to do with cabinets, fixtures, wall coverings, etc. I tried re-explaining this more than once as well. And, yep you guessed it, she fell back on "This is the way it's done at Allstate."
When I asked for clarification, she got increasingly flustered and simply stated, "I'll send you the quote." To which I responded, "Without any real clarification of these issues we're discussing?" Her: "The quote will explain it." Me: "No thanks. Goodbye." Regardless, she had already sent the quote and, guess what? The quote does explain it, and directly contradicts her explanations: Dwelling or building property "Covers items of real property related to the interior of the unit which are the responsibility of the unit owner as expressed by the governing rules of the condominium." And, personal property "Safeguards the possessions inside your condo or townhome, such as furniture, electronics, clothes and more."
Not only did I have to prompt her for information regarding special assessments coverage (at which point the above misinformation was repetitively provided), but also about loss of use, personal liability, and medical coverage. I would think that specific questions regarding coverage would (and should) be asked to assess each individual's needs, but that did not occur with Nelly.
All said, I can't fault Mr. Morse personally, save for the fact that he has someone this unhelpful and uninformed working with and/or for him. Whatever the case, I was oriented toward him based on his positive reviews. Now, based on my negative interaction with Nelly, I no longer have an interest in working with this office. read more
