Have you ever felt like a different person inside than what everyone else sees? Ever been told (by a friend) that you look deformed? These were experiences I had after a 3-year battle and losing 120 lbs.! I had skin in folds and felt ugly all the time! Dr. Scanland changed that! I interviewed several other doctors and when meeting with Dr. Scanland I felt totally comfortable! She had a feminine point of view and was very specific and confident in the results we could achieve; and boy did she deliver!!!! At three months post-surgery I was in a bikini for the first time in my adult life. A year post surgery and I couldn't be happier. I can do things I wanted to do before but was too self-conscious to do or just physically unable to do so because of the shape/size I was. I called and she told me that although she said it was the co pay it was for a service that they charge the patient but do not mention it to insurance because they do not pay for that service. I called and she admitted but offered no apology and said they did not have to tell their clients about the extra charge. I told her she should have told me it was not a co pay but a charge for a service. I was also billed for the service but the co pay is all I would have to pay. I feel very wronged. I had my insurance call and she told her the same thing: they do not have to tell the client about the extra charge and she said she never called it a co pay. Beware of extra charges and not being told!

I went ahead and had a cleaning and new x-ray as it had been more than 6 months. They are a little behind the times on technology, still using the scrapers instead of the more pleasant (or less unpleasant) water jets. But the dental hygienist was very skilled with it. Then she took the X-rays. Soon, Dr. Sims came in to discuss the Xrays. Rather than just telling me "you need this, you need that", he brought them up on the TV screen and went over every detail with me. I hadn't mentioned Aspen to him. When he got to that tooth, he showed me the cavity, and explained that there was no abscess. If it get it filled before it gets much deeper, I won't need a root canal. That saved me at least $1,500. He also found a large chip on the other side of my mouth, and recommended a filling. I got them both filled the next day. Dr. Sims put in the fillings and did an excellent job. It's never fun, of course, but he handled it as well as he could. They had me as numbed up as possible without putting me to sleep. One of them I didn't feel at all when he was drilling. The other side he told me was at a "nerve cluster" and to let him know if it hurts. I felt it some, but was able to get through it. The filling operation was a success! I'm happy and will definitely return! I wish I could give it 4.5 starts. Due to the old fashioned scrapers, I can't justify a perfect score, but that is my only complaint.
