I had wide gaps and tilted front teeth for decades, and other orthodontists couldn't make a nice mold to work with me. My teeth shapes didn't help molds to come out clean. So when I found that Lee & Young Ortho works with 3D software for making a mold, I wanted to try on it. Dr. Lee has truly done amazing job for my family. My oldest son and my mom have had the pleasure of working with him. Last week, my son smashed his mouth against a table in the late evening. He split his lip open and the wire of his upper teeth was jutting out of his mouth. We ended up in the ER and the doctor suggested we contact his orthodontist. Dr. Lee communicated with the ER doctor on staff and offered to help fix the wire problem that very evening. To be honest, I was completely shocked that an orthodontist would be willing to help at such a late hour. It was above and beyond the call of duty, but Dr. Lee felt it was important that my son was comfortable. He is truly a caring doctor and we are lucky to have him as our family orthodontist! If you want your teeth to look worse than they did in the first place, and you have thousands and thousands of dollars to throw away, then by all means, Dr. Lee is your man. (Don't forget to save additional thousands of dollars for another orthodontist to do the work over.) Based on reviews from other unhappy ex-patients, it appears that the business model is to charge patients the full price up front, and then when they wise up and leave, Dr. Lee pockets their money and the unfortunate patient has to pay the entire amount again to the new orthodontist to do the work over. Unfortunately, not all damage is reversible, as I found out the hard way. If you want a second opinion, in addition to all of the bad reviews on Yelp, talk to some of the unhappy patients waiting in the hallway during lunch for emergency appointments. I'm not a neurologist, but the combination of symptoms including speech impediment, poor fine-motor skills, and deficient fluid memory would be worrisome. The 3501 California Street office is VERY inconvenient. No parking, and the orthodontist there ONLY see patients on certain days and times that usually do not work out with a students' busy school schedule. They are NOT flexible in offering alternative dates and times that kids can make on their free time (like on weekends, HELLO!!!) You can't even ask to see the orthodontist in their other office on Clement Street. For some reason, when you start with one of these two orthodontists, you HAVE TO continuously see them for the treatment. So why are the two office even linked together at all??? read more

I'd give 2.5 stars if I could. So far, this business is definitely better than 2 stars and definitely worse than 3 stars. (I'm only five months into my treatment plan.) I'm going with 2 stars because I've now had two particularly annoying/impersonal visits. I did a lot of research before deciding to go with Dr. Lee. His plan for my teeth was the one that made the most sense when I compared all my options (I got free consultations from four orthodontists!). He certainly wasn't the cheapest option, and he isn't the most expensive, either. He certainly knew what he was talking about when we met. He picked up on my problems with my gums and my sensitive teeth and immediately ruled out some of the options other orthodontists had mentioned. I trusted his judgment from the start. His staff is friendly as well, and that counts for a lot in my book. These are the positives. Like other reviewers have mentioned, one may end up barely seeing Dr. Lee after one's first visit. Another reviewer described this place as "factory braces"; I tend to agree to a certain extent. A useful tip: 3-3:30 pm is a BAD time to get an appointment; it's when all the school-age children are there. I will not be scheduling a visit during that time slot ever again; it's the slot that makes me agree with the "factory braces" diagnosis. Example: once, I had a 3:20 pm tightening appointment; next thing I know, it's 3:50 pm and I'm still waiting for Dr. Lee to show up and take a look at what his assistant has done and explain whatever he is going to explain about my progress. He was nowhere to be seen and no one approached me to tell me when he might show up. (He showed up a little after 3:50; the actual visit with him was over in about 5 minutes.) This same thing happened again recently, during a particularly busy day for me at work (and this repeat offense is the reason I decided to write this review because the "benefit of the doubt" thing can only happen so many times). Making a patient wait for 20 minutes without letting her know it'll be a 20-minute wait is not OK -- not ever, in my opinion. It's certainly not OK when the patient is there on time for a 5-minute check-up during the work day. Please respect people's time, you guys! This doesn't have to be a cultural/normative thing to which we all need to resign ourselves. Please and thank you! I'll update my review when I see the results at the end of my treatment. I assume my teeth will be just fine, and that was the most important thing to me -- hence my desire to give 2.5 stars overall. I'm seeing good and fast results already, which make me happy. At the same time, if a personal connection with people who are sticking their hands in your mouth is a requirement for you (which I think is a VERY a reasonable thing to prioritize), I'd probably suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Dr. Lee and his excellent staff of technicians always make our children feel well-cared for and comfortable. Dr. Lee is exceptionally kind and patient. I never feel as though our appointments are rushed -- there's always plenty of time for questions and discussion. Our children have very complicated cases that will require years of orthodontics and several surgeries, but Dr. Lee's thoughtful analysis and clear explanation of the pros and cons of each treatment approach give us the information we need to decide what's right for us. Thanks to him, our kids are on their way to having mouths full of straight, healthy teeth. We're very grateful to Dr. Lee and his staff for transforming what might have been a stressful experience into a simple and straightforward matter. I got my braces with Dr. Lee put on and taken out over ten years ago (ages 16-18). The whole experience was pretty easy, and the only painful part was when the rubber band spacers were put in prior to the braces. As he'd promised, the process only took two years. I had had friends who had gone to other orthodontists who promises 2 years and it ended up being 4 years. Recently, I went back to Dr. Lee in order to get replacement retainers (since I'd broken my old ones and hadn't worn retainers in a while). Dr. Lee clearly explained the process to me, and after a short few weeks I had my replacement retainers. Office staff was always responsive, professional, and courteous. There was a slight issue with the computer system in dealing with the payment/insurance, but staff were always good about answering my questions and concerns. read more

Dr Rodney Lee is a superstar orthodontist. My older son had braces through him and now my younger son has expanders in preparation for braces. I am a 29 year old with a cross-bite related problem that causes tooth wear, rather than an aesthetic issue. I was initially referred to another orthodontist, who spent 2 minutes with me and prescribed the standard invisalign treatment, and kept emphasizing the aesthetic benefits while missing my concern. I then went to Dr. Lee for a second opinion, and loved the whole experience! He and his staff were so friendly and caring. Dr. Lee really listened to my concerns, and gave practical options with various degrees of intervention. We have been very happy with Dr. Young and his staff. I found his office manager very easy to work with and helpful in working out a payment plan. His staff in general is very pleasant and timely. Dr. Young has used a conservative approach with both my young sons (starting at age 9 for both boys) and improved their teeth alignment with the just the use of expanders and retainers. Dr. Rodney Lee and his staff are the absolute best! He is knowledgeable, efficient, and an expert in the field of orthodontics. I consulted him after my dentist had destroyed my bite, gums and jaw using Invisalign. After 3 years under the incompetent care of my dentist, I had crooked teeth and a painful bite after she charged me the maximum amount. (Dentists are simply not competent to provide Invisalign as they lack meaningful training on how to straighten teeth and align the jaw whereas orthodontists spend years in training. I think that the law should be changed to allow only orthodontists to straighten teeth.) Dr. Lee had done a great job straightening my daughter's teeth, so I went to him to see if he could fix the damage done by my dentist. (I had unfortunately started invisalign before my younger daughter went to Dr. Lee for her work.) He was able to correct my bite, align and straighten my teeth. I am thrilled with the result. He was also very compassionate in helping me in my distress and was extremely reasonable in his fees; he charged less than my dentist had charged. And his staff are great! They are warm, friendly, and make your time in the chair go quickly. I am shocked by the comments dissing the Laurel Village office as they clearly must not be real clients. Parking at Laurel Village is free (an amazing convenience given the cost of parking in SF) and a great place to do everything from banking, to grocery shopping, gift and clothes shopping and a Starbucks to boot. I must also comment regarding the comparison to Dr. Yoshikawa as my older daughter had braces with him. The service and care under Dr. Lee is at least equal to that which we received with Dr. Yoshikawa, and despite the difference in time between my daughter's braces, Dr. Lee's fees were less than Dr. Yoshikawa's fees. I am very happy with the treatment I received from Dr. Lee. My teeth were a bit misaligned, so Dr. Lee suggested going with the invisalign option. This worked out great because most people did not even notice I was wearing braces. The treatment lasted for over a year and it was a very smooth process.
