I've had worse...rolled into Galveston in the wee hours five days ahead of thanksgiving needing a clean room and the promise of a hot shower. pulled up a lodging app and this was a low cost leader and practically right beside me, Yelp rating recommends caution so I did a lap around the lot and didn't notice anything to creepy. Got a room next to the pool: clean beddings and towels; no unpleasant sights or smells; doors and shades closed securely so call it a day. I've stayed at Roadway Inns before. Matter of fact, this one before just 3 months ago. This time it was a COMPLETE DISASTER! I just got off working a cruise ship and checked in exhausted. The front desk attendant was pleasant, personable and polite. GOOD... THAT is where it stopped! There are NO light bulbs in ANY of the fixtures except for one and the bathroom! None in the sink area or on the wall over the bed. Guess the issue was MOOT, as I find out later I'd have the cover pulled "Dutch oven" style over my head! No garbage can was to be found for THIS Oscar. The Petite coffee maker was sufficient but I was not told it was a BYOC event, DAMNIT! Since I am a well healed traveler I brought my own and a selection of teas. The hair dryer was LITERALLY giving you Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall... I proceeded to put that "Who's BAD!?!" Boy to use as a space heater! After I found the water did get EXTREMELY Paris Hilton hot, BUT the room "HEATING" unit was NOT! I Tried calling the front desk multiple times, NO answer! Found next morning that they CLOSE and don't open until like 9AM! What if there is an emergency or shit goes down! This is RATCHET ISLAND: GALVESTON EDITION,! I didn't go to front desk because of the sound of "dodgy" activity outside my door! Here are the positives while we were there: no one was murdered, no bed bugs and nothing was stolen. I guess that's acceptable nowadays. Here's the experience: we arrived in the office and waited 10 minutes for the clerk to finish his smoke break, tried to find a place to park, as all the long term residents took all of the decent ones, walked passed piles of trash under the stairwell, and entered our room to find it unfinished and unkept. No baseboards, kind of painted, hairs and dust bunnies everywhere, moldy shower curtain, something resembling fushia wax had been dumped in the toilet, no fridge, no coffeemaker, no breakfast. No one answers the phone. If you're looking for a pool party you're in luck. The adults were drinking full sized glass bottles of booze by the trucks full of trash and the mattresses dumped on the ground. When you want to checkout, just leave your key on the window sill outside of the office door. I'm sure no one will take it. Bad experience.. Wish I could go lower on scoring. This place doesn't even deserve one star. The front desk lady was nice but going by her decision of clothing was an indication that this was not going to be a good experience. Fire alarm was disconnected (thinking about notifying the Fire Marshal), carpet and comforters had nasty stains, TV or outlet didn't work, toilet paper spindle is missing,, clothes and bathroom towel racks ar separating from the wall,, the second door latch needs to be replaced. Whoever did the painting did a sloppy job. I'm sleeping on a towel from home. Sleeping was another issue with arguments inside and out of units. All sorts of banging in the units l. The resort location is a pretty seedy area. Going to see if I can get at least a partial refund...paid $205.00 for one night. The room pictures on the website is plain and simple false advertisements for this location. Does the owner not know that happy customers will visit again and again. Plus repeat customers are the best form of advertising. Couldn't find a room at a different hotel, every place else was booked so I was stuck here. read more

This place is absolutely disgusting. Room 118 literally looked like tweekers have been living in there. The worst (by far) room I've ever seen. The lady at the front desk already had our refund paperwork ready when I went back to the office. This hotel is littered with drug addicts hanging all over the parking lot. Other tenants looked really suspect and I believe are getting a much better rate than I got to live there. I would believe that many of the rooms are used for people working from "home" selling and using meth. After going in room and finding it hot and filthy I asked for refund as I did not use room. I was there for 30 min trying to resolve on phone and get new reservation. This is the absolute worst experience I've ever had. We flew in from Nevada. Once in Phoenix we were aware of a delay due to fog witch would cause us arriving at approx 1 am.. We called the front desk(7:30pm) to make them aware of the late arrival offering to check in over the phone. We were assured that it Was noT a problem and she would leave a note- there would be a phone number on the door to call when we arrived. After arriving we called the number 13 times, rang the door bell, and knocked on the door repeatedly. 20+ minutes later we were greeted by a shirtless manager yelling at us- "no room reservations after midnight" I explained we called hours prior and were told we would be fine, that she was supposed to leave a note. He yelled at my family and I "Well she was wrong!" After going back and fourth he finally checked us in. It was 1:30 we were exhausted after spending 12 hours in the airport because of the fog delays. Once we get to our room we are greeted by, cockroaches, dirty tables, broken smoke alarms and cigarette burns in the bedding. Afraid to complain at this point we slept fully dressed with our shoes on & on top of our own blankets. read more

Cigarette burns and white stains on the comforter, blood stains on the mattress. Looked like it was trashed and never cleaned after the last guest. (I ended up having to go buy new sheets and a blanket because it was so gross) there was multiple people in the lobby also complaining that their rooms were not cleaned, so it wasn't just our room. We had to leave a day early for a family emergency, I called and they said I could get my $300 back for the night that I wouldn't be there... come to find out, they refused to give me money back. the place smelt terrible, horrible customer service, and the hardest bed I ever sat on in my life. JUST NO ***YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED*** It's sad to think that to get a decent stay in Galveston you will have to drop at minimum $120. If you are looking for a cheap alternative DO NOT LOOK HERE! I know the price point is tempting but just don't. I have to mention this as I feel absolutely terrible for the new manager, I am sorry! She was so nice, nothing but helpful and Rodeway can only be so lucky to have an employee like her who cares so much about trying to make that dump a nicer place stay. RI better be giving this girl a damn raise! Now that we're passed all that. As pretty much every review mentioned, you do get what you pay for. I wish this was the case here. I almost feel wrong leaving a review of a place I spent a total of 15 minutes at. Like I didn't even give it a chance. And you're right. But here is why: We came a few hours after check in only to be told that we may not get a room for a few hours as a majority of the staff had basically quit due to the state extending COVID unemployment benefits. Therefore, that left 2 people (new manager and 1 house keeper) to clean like 40 rooms. No big deal, we got some food and came back later. Upon our return we were given a ground floor room to which we couldn't even park in front of, as there were numerous "extended guests" vehicles taking those spots. Again, not a huge deal. But, what was, was the state of the room. RODEWAY OWNERS: HERE IS WHERE YOU TAKE NOTES! If a Hotel/Motel makeover show picked this spot they'd burn it to the ground, re-light the ashes and burn it down again to ensure the job was done. This place needs to be condemned and torn down. That would be the simplest solution. As soon as I opened the door, I caught a whiff of bleach. Not like a freshly cleaned whiff, like a post CSI try and scrub DNA evidence off the walls scent. All of this of course being circulated by the standard and obviously uncleaned 1980's Motel AC unit. Even with all the lights on, the room was still dim. But that didn't matter as I was able to get enough light from the 2" gap under the door that didn't shut right. The lack of light wasn't enough to hide the huge stain of some sort right as you walk in, with random specks covering the rest of the room what the main spot missed. There were holes in the wall likely left from the Kyle convention that was in town. The mattresses/box springs looked like they were drug around the parking lot. All the furniture was mismatched and didn't really fit into the room (i.e. a sofa wedged between the AC and a bed). The bathroom had bleach sprayed all over everything. So much so that the floor was slippery as you walked in. There was mold in the corners, the tub had a halo that'd make any angel jealous. The shower curtain was just, nasty. Everything had a dingy smell and feel to it. Needless to say that we packed our sh!t and 180°'d, deciding to continue the journey driving through the night. I've stayed in some questionable Hotels and Motels. But this particular one has emerged as the victor. I personally didn't read the reviews for this particular RI. Honestly, I didn't because every Rodeway I've stayed in in the past was decent (even contradicting the reviews). But because of today's events I have decided to make my life a Rodeway free one. If you find yourself in a room at this particular Rodeway Inn, you've made a wrong turn in life. A crack house would be a more economical choice compared to staying here, might even be cheaper. Do yourself a favor and pack a tent, sleep in your car, maybe consider going to pick up some cardboard boxes and sleeping on the beach. You'll be better off sleeping under the causeway than staying here. You're welcome! read more

The other reviews are accurate, dingy, dark, zero room service. You have to get your own sandpaper towel. Be quick though because the lobby is rarely open. Couple mornings 9am still not open. Shower leaked, ice box was really cold. That's the one star. AC worked good also. No microwave. A lot of parking reserved by employees. Trash and building materials stacked around stairs and in parking spots and everywhere. A young lady overdosed in a room there. That room made money the next day. Know what I mean? read more

Hotel does not follow the ADA laws for service dogs. Harassed the service dog handler for ID and registration that does not exist. It is illegal to have ID or registration for your service dog since the websites are all scam sites, even tho the girl at the desk flaunted her dogs ID card. Manager refused multiple times to listen to what the ADA law stated nor would look at the internet website that was being provided. Police were called and unfortunately still could not fix the problem. Card was charged twice and had to leave could not find another room in the city so ended up driving two hours back home instead of spending the weekend with friends. 1 * only because I had to put something to write their review. Just don't. Needed a last minute hotel in Galveston, the cheapest we could find being Rodeway Inn, and it was pretty disgusting. Walked in to find leftover food packaging and someone's bikini bottoms hanging in the bathroom, complete with the previous guest's hair all over the shower wall. And we were told when checking in that we were given "one of the nicer rooms." Not sure how much worse it could get. The maintenance guy hacking up a lung outside of our door didn't make me feel any more comfortable, and it was overall a sketch experience. Don't try to call them either, the front desk will not answer the phone. They may not even be there at all, as was the case when we tried to check out. We were expecting a little more then just a place to rest our heads. Upon check in we were informed there was no breakfast being served but 1 person at a time in the lobby could get juice or coffee. When we got to room , we found towels in bathtub (already used, own was a dark color scrunched in corner) . We received two towels , called for more . Never received , so we made do with what we had. Our second bed had no bottom sheet , had which appeared to be cigarette holes in the blanket . We thought our room would be cleaned (at least trash emptied each day - our stay was 3 days) but it was overflowing every time we returned. Our tv did not work . We called , gentleman came , it worked for him (something about when housekeeping cleans they may unplug it ?!) . We tried other that evening , had to call again . Same gentleman came again , said plug was worn , we were out of luck . No offer to switch rooms , or attempt to fix. Now tv isn't a must have but it would of been nice to have what we were told we would . When we went to pool to go swimming , pool had trash all around it , water was a bit off color. I reserved and paid $141. 96 for my room through Hotwire for Sunday of Memorial Weekend, and upon arrival, Rodeway Inn charged us $120.71 separately for the entire room cost. They say they can't see the Hotwire info anymore, and won't refund their double charge. I've been trying to resolve this for a week already, and am still out $120. The room seemed tired but clean at first glance. The grounds and building also seemed to be decent. What we found out though that our room had a bedbug problem that we didn't notice until leaving. The swimming pool and size of room was great but there was mold in the fridge and tub which was very nasty. We paid almost $300 and it was not worth the price. Food was left from current customer. This motel was clean and the rooms didn't smell bad. They give you complementary soap and shampoo. The bathrooms are clean ,but I did find a spider crawling around. Imagine spending eight hours on the beach. You are dirty, sweaty, tired and sleepy. You get to the hotel and check in with your kids. The kids searched endlessly for the remote control, never found it. You pick up the hotel phone to call the front desk, it doesn't work. So you then try to troubleshoot on why the TV won't work because the kids can't do without Animal Planet. Ugh, not working. You call the front desk by holding the cord in the phone receiver. A very nice woman says I will bring you a remote. Fifteen minutes later she called to ask what kind of TV you have in your room. Another 15 minutes later, she brings a remote control and it doesn't work. She says, "Can you wait a half hour, my husband will come fix the TV?" After 45 minutes, I decide to call down and say forget it. Not worth having a strange man in my room after 10:00 p.m. The room was decent and clean. The woman at the front desk was pleasant, but I felt since I checked in after 9:00 p.m. I was given the worst room the hotel had to offer. The staff was friendly and accommodating, but the motel needs to be updated. Not sure how long ago Rodeway took over from Days Inn, but judging from Robert's post, at least a couple of months. The sidewalk patches are still unpainted. The room was clean, but you could tell that the bedding had been around for a while. No burn marks or bugs, which would send my wife out of her mind. Just spent one night here before our cruise, so it is an inexpensive add on to the trip, since we could not get a flight from CA that would arrive early enough in Houston to make it to Galveston in time. I did ask the front desk for an envelope and they gladly accommodated me, but it had the Days Inn logo. If you need an inexpensive place to stay before the cruise, this works and they'll let you leave your car here at no charge until your cruise is over. read more
