While me and my family was in town for the Christmas holidays we stayed at the Home2 Suites. We…read morewere greated very nicely and the staff was very helpful before we got settled in. When we got to our room we were amazed on how big the space was. We all had plenty of room so there was no overlapping of space between 3 people and there was plenty of nearby restaurants that we were able to walk to and Railroad Park to enjoy a day in the sun. The breakfast was good considering it was the holidays and the mini store was reasonably priced. My wife said that she would love to make this our regular hotel whenever we come in town. Great job!

I recently stayed at Home2 Suites by Hilton in downtown Birmingham on 18th Street, and…read moreunfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. The main reason we chose this location was because of the excellent experience we previously had at the Home2 Suites location in Hoover, Alabama. That property was superb, so we expected the same level of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, the downtown Birmingham location fell far short of those expectations. Upon entering our room, it was clear that cleanliness was an issue. The bathroom sink had brown residue in it, the shower floor was dirty, and there was hair throughout the bathroom. I actually had to clean the bathroom myself before feeling comfortable using it. The couch in the room was also covered in visible stains, making it unusable for us during our stay. To make matters worse, the ironing board completely fell apart while we were trying to iron our clothes. As a result, we had to iron our clothing on the bed, which is far from ideal and does not provide the same results as using a properly functioning ironing board. This was another indication that the room furnishings and equipment were not being adequately maintained. I will say that the beds were comfortable, and the hotel's downtown location is very convenient. Being close to restaurants, entertainment, and other attractions was definitely a plus. Another major concern was the parking situation. Guests are required to pay for self-parking, yet there was rarely any available parking. To make matters worse, catering vehicles from Taziki's, a restaurant located across from the hotel, appeared to be occupying spaces in the hotel parking area. Those spaces should be reserved for paying hotel guests. While the location is excellent, that alone does not make up for poor cleanliness, poorly maintained furnishings, and a lack of attention to the overall guest experience. This stay was a stark contrast to the outstanding experience we had at the Hoover location. Because of that, we will not be returning to this particular property. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests can have a better experience.

The room overlooked a couple of buildings but it was a nice view to see some of the local businesses. We saw many apartments in the area from our window view. The room was nice and quiet and the hotel was as well (except for our children lol). There were double dark room shades in the room to ensure the daylight would not disturb our sleep. The tub was spacious and the room had a very nice long table to utilize. There was a mini fridge, microwave and keurig that were nice to have. The room was clean upon arrival and our check in was nice, quick and convenient thanks to the mobile app. The staff has been very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Even when they were very busy, they made sure the experience was nice. They went over and above to ensure our comfort.

We were traveling all day with two children and waited for a room for over 2 hours - past when check in time was. Not only were we exhausted but the staff was rude and berated us for asking how much longer it would be. We had reserved the room two months in advance. I don't think we will be staying here again despite having stayed here every year for the past four years.

The small couch in the main bedroom was a statement piece, but not exactly inviting. But overall the rooms were interesting. Breakfast didn't seem to be very popular when we were there as there weren't many guests at it, and they didn't deliver the cash box timely so paying with cash was an ordeal. The rooftop bar was a nice place to sit and quiet enough to have a conversation. The view over the city was nice to have, although not especially exciting. Valet parking was quick and easy, and the only option. It was conveniently located downtown with a bunch of food options around, including coffee shops. I wish I'd gotten a receipt as I left rather than waiting for an email because the email hadn't come by two days after, and the stay wasn't showing up in the app--not great, Marriott. When I called to get it I was on hold for quite a while--revising my review to lower from 4 stars for being adequate to good, to 3 stars because I had to wait in hold for over 16 minutes two days after my stay to get someone there on the phone to send me the bill for my stay, when it should have been sent immediately after I check out and automatically. The stay turned into a hassle with no respect for my time.

Being a Marriott loyalist, I have certain expectations for them but being a low tiered member for Hilton, I'm just happy for basics being covered. Upon arrival, I was beyond elated to see so much free street parking in the vicinity. Yes, they offer valet but I'd much rather got a less expensive route, to boot, I could see my car from the room all weekend. The valet, doorman and front desk agent were all super nice. We got checked in and made it to our room. Yes, this is an old building, it's in fact, the oldest operating hotel in all of Birmingham! We loved the historic feel of it. The layout, like others, was weird. The elevators were small and the light up display showcasing what floor you were on, didn't always work in one. We had a room near the elevators, normally I ask against this but again, I'm checking my privilege. The location of this hotel is downtown but on the outskirts. That means it's far away enough from the highways to not hear them. It's also close enough to restaurants, that it's not a far walk or drive. We didn't partake in any F&B outlets other than asking for wine glasses. Our room was turned down while there, which is not the norm as my honey doesn't like folks in our room. I was pleased to see everything was restocked. We also checked out Roof, their rooftop bar, but it's not very big and we had already had a full day.

Tonya checked me in and was very kind. I had a king bed and the room was set up the way I like it. The bathroom was nice, and the overall layout worked well. I requested a refrigerator and microwave, and they brought them up without any problem. Juma came up and installed everything, which I appreciated. One good tip is the parking. The hotel has parking, but there is also parking across the street for a fraction of the cost. It was about ten dollars for twelve hours or twenty dollars for twenty four hours, so that is worth knowing if you are trying to save a little money. The location is another major plus. It is very central and walkable. I used Yelp to find several restaurants nearby and was able to walk downtown to different spots without any problem. That convenience really adds value to the stay. I even stopped by the bar and they were kind enough to give me ice and help me out there too. Honestly, the staff here are so nice that it really pushes the experience up for me. In my head this is about four and a half stars, and on Yelp I am happy to round that up to 5 stars.

Special shout out to Keke who greeted us with a smile, answered all of our questions, and even offered recommendations for activities to do while we were in town. The hotel location is central and there are a variety of restaurant and shops you can walk to and many other options not too far a drive. Even though it was sold out, there wasn't too much noise and the breakfast is standard. My mom also got help making a waffle from an employee who was extremely gracious. If I go back, I'd definitely stay here! Thanks for a great first time to Birmingham (and Alabama!)

There are only 2 elevators in one area of the building, so you have to wait a while. - coin laundry on the 6th floor with pools of water on the floor - the kitchen sink is leaky so every time you use it, water is coming out on the counter The place itself is clean enough, there's complimentary breakfast. Parking is $25 - if you street park it's cheaper using the park mobile app (though it may be annoying trying to find a spot).
