    Pubic hairs in shower
    Amy W.

We checked in tired after a long drive and found both bedside lamps dead and half the outlets useless. A maintenance tech finally showed up (he was friendly, to be fair). He slid the nightstand away and an entire ecosystem of dust and crumbs spilled out. Then he sat on the floor and took the lamps apart piece by piece while we all just hovered there in awkward silence. He hauled the guts off to "rewire" them and came back later with the lights working but the plugs still didn't. The bathroom was worse: brown-red smears on the trash can, mildew creeping up the shower frame, and random pubic hairs stuck in the corners. I kept my shoes on the whole time. By 10 p.m., after more back-and-forth, they moved us to another room that was at least clean, but it was the same basic category-no upgrade, no real apology, just more hassle while our kids tried not to fall asleep standing up. She offered me 5,000 points and two breakfast vouchers-never mind that there are four of us. I declined. Hilton's "Make It Right" promise? Not here. Unsafe wiring, filthy surfaces, and a token offer that didn't even cover breakfast for the family. I've stayed in motels that cared more. Skip this place.

Bathroom shower - best shower head for a chain hotel
    LaToya L.

Hilton Birmingham is a nice! The rooms seem to be newly renovated. Prime location for access to UAB. The decor is very aesthetically appealing. The linen was crisp and pristine. The shower is best shower head for a chain hotel. I enjoyed the contactless check-in. My only con was the digital pass did not work for the parking garage so I had to call for help each time I was entering and exiting.

half empty cup by the bed with a sticky spill

This hotel is in a great location close to the UAB and various hospitals, however, my room was not clean at all! There was a half-empty cup that had spilled over by one of the beds, and major lime buildup on the shower pole. In addition, the power went out for over half of the day, and when it finally came on, only one elevator worked with no television services. I called the first desk numerous times to get the TV service restored, at which time I was told that they would send someone up to fix it right away, but never did. I woke up the next morning, and the television service was still not restored. They have a small refrigerator in the room but no microwave; instead, it's in the lobby. Honestly, there are other hotels next door and close by. I would suggest you go there instead, especially for the price. I am not only an extremely disappointed travel agent but also a traveler who will never book my clients here going forward.

I liked the hotel though our card key did not work and we had to go downstairs to get it working again. Also, our coffee maker did not work so we waited 35 minutes and 3 phone calls later for someeone to bring us a new one. The front desk was a little rude to me when I called back and seemed annoyed. I'm not sure why as I needed my coffee! The sleeping arrangements were good and the beds are comfortable as well. I notice now that in the bathrooms they have large plastic bottles of shampoo and more. It is located in the heart of downtown, Hilton Birmingham at UAB puts you within walking distance to the Five Points area and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Navigating the city is easy with MAX Connect and our complimentary shuttle within two miles from the hotel, as well as to the airport and train. You are just blocks away from Region's Park, home of the Birmingham Barons, Uptown, Lakeside and the BJCC Convention Center Complex. The hotel also features a six level parking facility with direct guest room access. The guest rooms with UAB-themed décor boast floor-to-ceiling windows and offer oversized workspace with ergonomic chair, refrigerator, safe and individually controlled air conditioning. You can select a large suite or executive room for a higher floor location, extra amenities, and Executive Lounge access with complimentary breakfast and refreshments throughout the day. We had breakfast in the LAB Market Café. I did not use room service available, 6:00am - 11:00pm. We also did not lounge by the outdoor swimming pool or make use of the fitness center, equipped with cardio machines and free weights. I know there is an outdoor terrace with fire pits and seating space...which we did not use either. We were with a group so we were on the go so much that many of these things were not part of our stay.

Dad and I were driving from Memphis to Atlanta to catch a flight but we both got sleepy in the process decided to stop by Doubletree and rest for exactly 3.5 hours. I read the reviews but noticed the ones about the nasty rooms were old so i didn't think anything of it. We checked in and the lady at the front desk wasn't the nicest but she always wasn't the worst. My Hilton Honors account has my maiden name but of course my DL has my married name. She gave me a small hard time but because my credit card has both names that turned around quickly. She tried to charge us for parking but we told her would pay per hour since it's cheaper and we were only staying a few hours. That was also a uphill battle. The first room (yes you read that right the First room) hadn't been clean. The bed was unmade and towels were on the bathroom floor. So dad and I went back down to request a new room. The manager was there than we advised her on the issue and guess what, NO APOLOGY. Really?!?! You place me in a dirty room and you can't at least apologize. The new room was on the same floor and thank goodness it was clean. We rested for 2.5 hours and was up and gone to catch our flight.

I wonder why there's no name listed on the door...

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a Hotels.com Gold member and to say that this is absolutely the worst hotel experience I have had is saying A LOT. First of all, they could not find my reservation and stated when they did, the room would not be ready at the 4pm check-in listed. When I voiced my displeasure, Bryan, the acting 'manager', didn't seem to comprehend what "customer service" means because he not only took this personally, he took joy in refusing to check me in because of what must be a massive ego. Furthermore, he provided no assistance in processing the pre-paid refund. I had to go directly to hotels.com which also wasn't a pleasant experience but I digress. I ended up staying at a Red Roof due to the Marathon weekend and hotels being full. But to be honest, I'm not sure it wasn't better than the shabbiness of the UAB Hilton. People don't make an effort to go to Birmingham often, and my only reason was for the marathon. I appreciate Bryan justifying the current Yelp rating of 2.5 stars, as well as a long string of other guests' negative reviews recently.

The shampoo and conditioner was nice

I like this location. It is close to several great restaurants and feels quite safe. It has a large parking deck that normally has plenty of room. The staff has been friendly and helpful. We had a few issues with cleanliness, which is a huge point of contention for me. The first one was a huge plate of dirty dishes that sat outside in our hallway for over a day. The second one was pee on our comforter. It wasn't done by us, and it really grossed us out. I love the lotions and soaps they use. They have a decent fitness center and pool. The restaurant and breakfast is Ok, but several great restaurants are close by so we don't normally eat there. The price is fair for what you get.We will likely stat there again.

    Urine stain on comforter
    Dominic E.

I've stayed at this hotel for the last 4 years of so and it's gone from nothing great to absolutely gross. I recently stayed here over Easter weekend and the stay was not sanitary. One room on our hall left out their room service tray. It sat there for 2 days with leftover food and dirty dishes. On one of those days, I witnessed housekeeping cleaning rooms on the floor and NOT bother with the room service tray sitting in the hallway. Additionally, when arriving to our room, I always pull back the comforter set and sheets to check for things (bed bugs, etc.). Unfortunately, this time...I pulled back the comforter and there was, what appeared to be, a urine stain. This means that the sheets weren't changed prior to my stay...they just made the bed. And this...is absolutely unforgivable. I will not be staying at this location ever again.

They don't do anything to safeguard your property, they didn't seem to care about crimes committed on their property, I haven't gotten an apology, and they had the nerve to charge me for parking "all night" in the very same parking lot that my vehicle was stolen from- no discount for not even getting a full overnight of parking. The "security" provided is not security at all, it's an employee wearing a security t-shirt that stays inside the building. They don't have cameras. When I asked if this type of thing happened often, I was told "there were two vehicles stolen a few weeks ago during a thunderstorm when it was raining really bad". That being said, safety is not important to hotel staff or management, you as the customer are not important, customer service-non existent, if you plan to stay here for "convenient location", please look elsewhere. You may just wake up to find that your car has been stolen from the parking lot. Based on the lack of empathy, concern, and surprise shown by hotel staff, I can't help but wonder if it was an inside job. I can only recommend you staying here if you are an idiot that likes taking chances. *update- police informed us today- one week later that hotel staff heard the vehicle alarm going off, walked outside to make sure it wasn't his personal vehicle, and saw the stolen vehicle "aggressively reversing and exiting the property".... And yet the hotel staff did absolutely nothing about it. He didn't call police and he didn't tell anyone of this info until days later. This staff member was present when I was in the lobby calling police three hours later and he made no move to tell us these details then. Additionally, it is obvious the vehicle was being stolen at the time because the vehicle drove through the "arm" at the exit while leaving the scene. What great integrity this gentleman has! He clearly doesn't care about anything except doing the minimum to draw his paycheck. I repeat- do not stay at this hotel!!!

We were greeted and oriented by Ms Doreen on arrival. She recognized us a Hilton Honors members which was really nice because it often does not happen. Nice remodel into a hotel and very creative as well. I peaked into the rooms being serviced while I was leaving and none looked the same as mine in the inside. My room had a cool mail chute built into the wall. There is also the old directory in the lobby that listed the branch managers and workers that were on each floor. The inside interior design is very well done. The lobby area is so pretty. I love the graduating wall paint. Incredibly cool. My room had some strange nooks and crannies in it that really made it even cooler. There were windows tucked into tiny corners. Tons of uniqueness. The room was clean, well stocked, coffee maker worked, hot waster came fast, and the bed was super comfy. So much in fact, I thought I was home when I woke up to use the restroom in the night. My only gripe is the it's a bit rough around it. Not much you can do about that. The homeless people that are around are sad to see, and there were quite a few. I wish more could be done to help them. It's tough to sleep in a $250/night room and know people are asleep on the ground outside. Not shaming these fine folks, but it is what it is. I'd return. For sure. '26 - 50

I usually order in for breakfast and the food comes quickly and as ordered. The fitness room is the biggest problem for me. It is small. Even if it had the same equipment in a bigger space, that would be an upgrade. Although, more equipment would be ideal. The elevators are the other issue. They are very slow. Though, I appreciate the vintage touch. I am an elite member and was told that my late checkout could be at noon... a regular customer would be able to stay that late. On a Wednesday in Bham? I would rate this Hilton property 0 stars if we could. We are loyal Hilton Diamond members and have stayed at multiple Hilton properties around the world. This was one of the worst properties we have ever stayed at. We stayed here in February and from the time we attempted to check in, it was disappointing. We were upgraded due to our Diamond status and upon checking into our room it was absolutely disgusting. The bedsheets appeared dingy and the bathroom was gross. There was hair on the ground and a vomit stain on the tile. So vile! We called downstairs right away and were moved to another room that was not much better. However, we were there for a family function and has other guests arriving that we has suggested the hotel to. We did notify the manager on duty and he told us he would escalate our concerns. The next day, the hotel manager, Tonya was on sight and sat down and spoke to us regarding the issues. She agreed that our experience was 100% unacceptable and promised to compensate our Hilton Honors points for our entire stay. She assured us that she would make this happen. Also, despite our complaints and meeting with her, our room was never even serviced by house keeping our entire stay. Now over 1 month later after no follow-up call or email, we contacted her and at first she acted as if she has no idea what we were talking about. Then she stated she escalated the issue to corporate but was unauthorized to issue more than 20,000 points, which covers absolutely nothing. And stated there was not really anything for her to do! She totally and outright lied to us, after she had assured us in person and in an email that our entire points would be compensated. She even had the audacity to even yell at us on the phone. This is not the type of experience I expect as a loyal Hilton Diamond Member. In conclusion avoid this disgusting and poor quality Hilton property at all costs.
