It's a shame I never got a chance to try their market in Brooklyn Basin because it looked cool in photos, but apparently, a combination of COVID and excessive construction forced the owners to shutter that market. I'm glad the original market in the quiet Oakmore neighborhood, has survived the ongoing economic turmoil. I don't live in these parts, but that doesn't stop me from taking advantage of a nice market. I came upon it inadvertently after I was hiking on the hidden canyon trails along Sausal Creek. I thought I could shop for dinner that evening and found some fresh produce and various gourmet items, but the real get for me was the prepared food from Two Local Girls. The roasted half-chicken and traditional lasagna were winners when I got home (photo https://bit.ly/3ZlLRjb). Really tasty and reasonably priced. Definitely worthy of a return trip. Chocolate bars from Rocky's. Made in Iceland, so not local, but oh so pretty!

I stopped by Rocky's Market after brunch w/ Diane today, and if possible, I love it even more than before! I started to park across the street, then noticed a spot had opened up directly in front so I drove across the street and pulled into it. When I walked in I was greeted by a friendly man. I went directly back to the cold case, where I took two Caesar salads because I remember them being excellent, and a risotto that looked interesting, mushroom and sweet pea. Both were from Two Local Girls. I was looking for some local chocolate to bring as a hostess gift to a friend who's having Nina and me over for dinner tonight and as I looked, the nice man came over to check whether I needed help. When I told him what I was looking for he led me over to the chocolates, where I picked out two bars that were beautifully wrapped and looked special because of the wrapping. When I went to the checkout stand we introduced ourselves. His name is Brady and his son was there, keeping him company. I commented that I had helped my dad at his shoe store when I was a kid. Then, after Brady rang me up, I couldn't find my credit card. I knew I had used it at Paulista and thought maybe I had left it there. Brady's response was to give me the receipt and tell me to come back later and pay. He said I didn't need to come back today, that he trusted me. I was just overwhelmed w/ gratitude and pleasure! I went out to my car, and then, before driving back to Paulista, I double checked my wallet for the credit card because my habit of putting it away is so strong. I looked behind the card next to where it belongs to see if I had inadvertently put my Visa behind it and, sure enough, that's where it was. I returned to the store w/ the credit card and paid for my purchases. When I started to write this update I saw that Brady is one of the market's co-owners. What an incredibly nice man, who sets the tone for the store. If this store were in my neighborhood I would be there every week! Addendum: Our hostess insisted on sharing one of the chocolate bars, sea salt and almond chocolate, and it was delicious!

This remains a great little neighborhood market that is a wonderful amenity. It is well worth a visit. Two weeks after my second 'jab' I finally ventured, doubled masked, out to a grocery store for the first time in over a year. It felt celebratory! So where did I do my reunited grocery shopping test run- Rocky's! It is so convenient and pleasant, and they appear to be adhering to COVID recommended safety protocol. They have a large hand sanitizer station outside the store, and easy to use. Although the product is somewhat limited I found everything I needed. All the produce and products are fresh and top quality. There's nothing I would pass up for lack of being great merchandise. I picked up some fruit, sour cream, ice cream and a Semifreddi's baguette. All top notch. Service was very friendly and the store just has a good vibe. During the holidays I did dash into the Brooklyn Basin store to grab my pre-ordered take-out Christmas eve dinner, and that location is phenomenal, from the quick look, as well as from online photos. I hope the owners see it to expand this location, in Oakmore, to take over the vacant place next door and grow the variety to mimic the offerings apparent in Brooklyn Basin. This neighborhood and adjacent could certainly support it. Parking is very easy, both out front and the adjacent lot. Overall, it's much better than going to the larger chain supermarkets. Going forward I intend to maintain it as my regular go-to store.

Produce area has a produce stand vibe.

Small neighborhood market servicing a quiet neighborhood in the Oakland hills. It is so tucked in, that I would say that it would be hard to 'stumble' onto. Given that, then they don't need to service to everyone, just who they feel is their given market. Hence this won't be for you if you're into national brands and stock your pad with Oreos, Doritos, Coke and Cheerios. Much closer to a Trader Joe's in appeal, but much more expensive. I actually would of never found this place, except Yelp led me here for a lunch time sandwich. Two Local Girls is a little hipster deli that subleases a corner in this market. Except 2 times I came to try them, they were closed. The hours of operation on the Yelp listing is either not accurate or not followed. So since I was already here, I browsed the store and got stuff for the house. Very small town vibe. So much different than say a market just 10 minutes down the road, say in the Temescal or the Laurel District. Without getting too political, let's just say someone from Vermont or Minnesota would feel comfortable here, without missing a beat. It also reminds me of many markets I run into whilst out on road trips to smaller towns USA. The produce and meats are quite scarce here, therefore expensive. The only reason to ever pick those up here is if one from the neighborhood didn't want to drive or travel at all. Lots of fancier things too, like oils of all types, Euro treats, and a good percentage of things organic. My draw and take away here is they have Semi Freddi's bread here on the daily. It is the same level as Acme for me, and when I see it, I'll usually grab something. Also grabbed some cheese from Point Reyes, some packaged pate to go with my bread score and it was worthy of the splurge. Some epic lunches the next few days. So definitely not usually in my regular path. But made the best of it, while I was passing through. As an outsider, I'm a fan for the most part.

Rocky's, what an amazing little hideaway supermarket full of organic goodness! From the pre-made chicken cacciatore to the teriyaki chicken on rice, also the vegetarian options are wonderful as well, now living in the contra costa area my boyfriend who is an Oakland native discovered this place recently while working in the Oakland/ Piedmont/Berkely area and frequently picks up pre-proportioned dinners. The gear, as you can see I'm rocking, is also extremely comfortable and stylish, my wonderful boyfriend purchased the full attire from the beanie to the sweatpants. I would also recommend that you don't forget to check out the honey products, incredible organic selection and let's not forget about their awesome staff, very nice, warm and receptive. Healthy, good vibes.

    So delicious

I love this market! They have a great selection of gluten free! The beverage fridge is full of healthy options. There produce is great! For a neighborhood store, they have everything you need! So when you forget something on your list, and it's not worth it to instacart! Just walk right into Rocky's! The cafe in the back is a bonus! Two Local Girls is where I go for Highwire Coffee and deliciously filling sammies or salads! The last time I was in here, I felt like I was back in Santa Cruz. There's that laidback, super chill, super friendly vibe! I cannot get enough of this place!

Caprese sando, free coffee, outside table made for a great lunch stop.

We were in town for a couple of days and needed lunch later that day without having time to go out. We looked at their inhouse prepackaged refrigerated meals and picked out some eggplant parmesan and went to the prepared food table and took home a half a quart of butternut squash soup. Lunch was warm and filling on a nice chilly day. I was happily surprised that the eggplant parmesan came out so well. It was nicely breaded and wasn't soggy and was very flavorful and not mushy. But there's a reason for my continued patronage at this store: it slashes my grocery budget by at least 50 percent, if not more. It makes a big difference during these inflationary times. I used to stick with packaged goods, but in more recent years I've also been getting as much produce as possible at this GO. It's quite a bit less than at the other grocery store I often frequent, a family-run business in the Dimond district. It's not hard to find quality produce here, and they have a respectable amount of organics. The one thing that keeps me from giving this store a full five stars is the fact that they allow signature gatherers to set up shop by the front door, and these people thrust their their damn clipboards and pens in your face when you try to walk in. Today, when I politely declined to fork over my signature, the woman told me, "You should try to give a hoot about this," which was quite annoying. I'm not going to put my signature on something I haven't researched beforehand. These things are not always what they seem to be.
